Chapter 43

The weekend wasn’t approaching fast enough, but Nuo Nuo was already impatient and had thought of what she wanted to eat and play.

“Mommy, I want to eat hamburgers, and I also want barbecue.”

“I want strawberries, and I want to drink cola.”

“I want fried chicken, and I want to drink yogurt.”

In just one day, the little girl had a long list of things she wanted to eat.

She reported everything she wanted to her mother, making Xu Ai think that she was the one who needed to apologize.

Busy with her work, she gently pushed the little one towards the door, saying, “If you want to eat or drink anything, you should talk to your dad. He promised you.”

Nuo Nuo pouted, “But if Daddy wants to give me something to eat, he still has to get your approval.”

Xu Ai: “…” How did this little one become so clever? Who taught her?

“Well, when you have time, you can talk to me again. Mommy is counting money right now. If I make a mistake, you might not have any money to go out this weekend.”

“We can let Daddy pay.”

The little one was quite hard to deceive, but Mommy needed to earn money to buy building blocks, dolls, and pretty clothes for herself, so Nuo Nuo really didn’t dare to disturb her mom too much; after all, earning money was tough.

After playing with her toys for a while, Nuo Nuo went to the study to find her dad and repeated her list of wants to him.

Sheng Zexi had no problem with it, but that day he was supposed to go out with Xu Ai, so he couldn’t make that decision.

“Have you asked Mommy if you can eat so much?”

Nuo Nuo tilted her porcelain-white little face up, her eyes sparkling like stars. “Of course! I already asked Mommy. She said it’s okay!”

Since Xu Ai agreed, Sheng Zexi naturally had no objections.

“Mommy said it’s okay.”

Sheng Zexi replied, “If Mommy said it’s okay, then it’s fine.”

“Daddy, I love you!”

Sheng Zexi was surprised to hear his daughter’s declaration. Although their father-daughter relationship was good at the moment, Nuo Nuo hadn’t expressed her love like this before. Just going out to play made the child so happy; Sheng Zexi felt quite pleased. He cleared his throat, feeling a bit shy, and said to his daughter, “Daddy loves you too.”

Sheng Zexi rarely expressed his love so directly and felt a little embarrassed.

Nuo Nuo giggled, thinking that she only declared her love to her dad and not to her mom. She immediately ran to her mother’s room.

“Mommy!”

Xu Ai was seriously reviewing her accounts when her train of thought was suddenly interrupted. Feeling a bit irritated, she saw Nuo Nuo’s obedient little face. Although her annoyance lessened a little, she still replied somewhat listlessly.

The little one gave her mom a sweet flying kiss: “Mommy, I love you!”

Her daughter’s sweet attack made Xu Ai somewhat defenseless. Mentally cursing her little adversary, she smiled back and said, “Mommy loves you too.”

“Giggle.” After confessing, Nuo Nuo ran off, leaving Xu Ai dazed, recalling her child’s flying kiss. The little one seemed very happy tonight; she wondered what fun things she had encountered earlier.

Shaking her head with a light laugh, she continued with her work.

Before long, the weekend arrived. Although Nuo Nuo usually liked to sleep in, she woke up early on the weekend. Xu Ai was awakened by the little one’s noise before seven. Annoyed, she picked Nuo Nuo up and took her to Sheng Zexi’s room, saying impatiently, “Watch over your daughter. I’m going to sleep until nine. If you two make any more noise, you can go out by yourselves later.”

Then she shut the door loudly, clearly not having gotten enough sleep and feeling quite irritable.

Nuo Nuo timidly glanced at her mother’s closed door and then said, “Daddy, Mommy is such a lazy pig! The sun is about to rise, and she still hasn’t gotten up.”

Sheng Zexi looked outside; it was cloudy, and there was no sun.

He picked the little one up and smiled, taking her downstairs. “It’s still early. Let’s go out later and let Mommy sleep a bit longer.”

Nuo Nuo was unwilling, her little face looking pitiful. “How can Mommy be so lazy?”

Sheng Zexi was used to waking up early, while Nuo Nuo could get up early unless it was a school day.

Xu Ai rarely got up early on her days off.

Seeing his little girl looking as if she had been wronged, Sheng Zexi gently patted her back to comfort her. “Mommy works very hard. It’s not easy for her to get a day off, so let her sleep a little longer. If we don’t have enough fun today, we can continue tomorrow.”

Hearing that they could continue playing tomorrow, Nuo Nuo’s droopy little face instantly brightened up like a sunflower. She asked her dad in disbelief, “Can we continue to go out tomorrow?”

It was fine for Sheng Zexi to take her out, but Xu Ai might not agree. However, since the little one was unhappy now, he decided to draw a big cake for her first: “Sure.”

With her dad’s promise, Nuo Nuo decided not to bother Mommy anymore.

Xu Ai then slept until ten thirty. When she woke up and checked her phone, she was still a bit dazed. She knew that Nuo Nuo, the little trumpet, would definitely come to wake her up before it was time, so she didn’t set an alarm. Yet, the little one didn’t disturb her today; it was like the sun rose in the west.

Did the father and daughter decide that they didn’t need her and could just go by themselves?

Xu Ai really didn’t want to go out. If they went by themselves, then this wonderful weekend would belong entirely to her.

Before long, Xu Ai realized that since she had already agreed, there was no such thing as a perfect situation. While she was having breakfast in the dining room, Nuo Nuo bounced back in from outside, holding a skewer of candied haws.

Seeing her mom eating breakfast, Nuo Nuo took a bite of the candied haws and said, “Mommy, have you rested enough? Once you have rested enough, let’s go out, okay?”

Xu Ai glanced at the candied haws in Nuo Nuo’s hand and asked, “Where did Daddy take you just now?”

“We just went to the square to play. Daddy said you were tired from work and needed to rest, so I didn’t disturb you to let you sleep well.”

Xu Ai was quite pleased with how Sheng Zexi taught the child.

But then she heard the next sentence: “Besides, there’s still tomorrow.”

Xu Ai: “…”

She had praised him too soon.

However, she didn’t say anything. They would deal with tomorrow when tomorrow came. Since they were already prepared to go out, she didn’t want to ruin the child’s excitement. But as she passed by Sheng Zexi upstairs, she still shot him a glare.

Sheng Zexi was inexplicably confused by the glare, wondering what he had done to upset her. He quickly figured out the reason and could only innocently touch his nose.
