Chapter 9: Taming the Dog

The Tibetan Mastiff in the cage dug its claws into the ground, its eyes fierce, and it let out a furious roar at Jiang Mi, looking absolutely vicious!

One of the female guests was so scared she leaped up in a panic.

Bai Ruanruan, trembling in fear, shrank into Shen Mingxuan’s arms, feigning worry as she cried, “Woo, I’m so worried about Mimi. Xuan Ge, let me go talk to her.”

Shen Mingxuan held Bai Ruanruan, his gaze holding a mix of confusion and malice. “Since Jiang Mi dares to boast, it means she’s confident. Don’t worry.”

Despite saying that, Shen Mingxuan didn’t believe for a second that Jiang Mi would actually open the cage, and he cursed under his breath.

【I can’t take this, I can’t watch anymore.】

And with a heavy kick, the dog was sent flying.

A massive creature weighing hundreds of pounds was kicked away like a toy.

Jiang Mi stared dazedly at Gu Chuan’s cold, handsome profile.

A little blossom of joy bloomed in her heart.

“Gu Chuan!”

“Stay behind me.”

Gu Chuan didn’t turn around, his eyes still half-lidded, cautiously observing the Mastiff. Dogs weren’t humans; it still carried untamed wildness and aggression.

The Mastiff got up, its front legs bent, scraping the ground with deep growls, as if preparing to retaliate for the earlier humiliation.

Suddenly, a furry head popped out from the dog’s shoulder.

Jiang Mi’s sweet voice rang out with a playful tone.

“I really know how to tame lions~”

“Stop messing around!”

“I’m not messing around, I really do.”

Jiang Mi leaned against Gu Chuan’s back, a little intoxicated by his scent, and gently nuzzled against him.

A soft, electric current spread through her limbs.

Gu Chuan, who was always on high alert, for the first time seemed to lose focus.

Taking advantage of that moment, the Mastiff noticed and let out another roar, charging straight at them.

Gu Chuan quickly reacted, instinctively grabbing Jiang Mi’s waist to keep her from moving.

But Jiang Mi wasn’t the type to hide behind him as a helpless woman.

She stepped forward, her soft body standing in front of Gu Chuan.

In that moment, it felt as if time itself had frozen.

Everyone paused, their gasps held deep within.

Only Gu Chuan let out a low growl, “Jiang Mi!”

In an instant, he reached out, grabbing her hand firmly.

And then, the fierce Tibetan Mastiff, moments before so vicious, surprisingly extended its tongue and licked the back of Gu Chuan’s hand.

Gu Chuan: “…….”

Tibetan Mastiff: “???”

Realizing that it had licked the wrong person, the Tibetan Mastiff whimpered pitifully, gazing at Jiang Mi with a sad look, its throat emitting a low growl.

Jiang Mi quickly grabbed Gu Chuan and pulled him back, extending her other hand to gently rub the dog’s head. “Good boy, don’t move.”

The Mastiff nudged Jiang Mi’s palm, scratching the ground with its front legs, looking incredibly pleased.

Even Gu Chuan, who always remained unshaken, showed a rare crack in his demeanor.

In fact, everyone’s expression shattered—except for Jiang Mi’s, of course!

Jiang Mi smiled and pulled him to pet the Mastiff’s head with her.

Her sweet voice had a hint of playful pride in it.

“Aren’t I amazing?”

Gu Chuan exhaled softly, “Mm.”

Jiang Mi asked again, “Isn’t it obedient?”

Gu Chuan admitted, “Obedient.”

“I’m obedient too.”

When she said that, Jiang Mi’s clear eyes reflected only Gu Chuan’s figure—focused and affectionate.

For a brief moment, he felt an urge to respond to her obedience.

But he quickly snapped out of it, pulling his hand back and stepping back.

The distance between them widened again.

Jiang Mi snorted softly, patting the Mastiff’s head. “Go back to your doghouse. Sister’s mad now, I don’t want to deal with you.”

The Mastiff licked its face, looking confused: “???”

A faint smile flashed across Gu Chuan’s eyes.

Meanwhile, several guests curiously ran over.

The sweet girl in a JK skirt stood the furthest, her voice the loudest. “Jiang Mi Jie, you’re amazing, the dog-taming master!”

Jiang Mi turned and casually winked at her, then invited, “Do you want to come over and pet it?”

The sweet girl excitedly nodded, then nervously shook her head.

She wanted to, but was scared.

“Come on, show the cute side to the pretty girl,” Jiang Mi said, patting the Mastiff’s head and giving it a signal.

The Mastiff immediately understood, wagging its head and circling Jiang Mi, making the crowd burst into laughter.

The sweet girl finally mustered the courage to step behind Jiang Mi. “Jiang Mi Jie, how did you do it? You’re amazing!”

Shua shua shua—all eyes were on Jiang Mi again.

Her dog-taming skills were more professional than a professional’s, no one could deny it.

Without changing her expression, Jiang Mi replied, “I have an Afghan Hound at home. It’s really dumb and always forgets the commands, so I had to train it over and over. After repeating it enough times, it got used to it.”

“Afghan Hound?” The man with gold-rimmed glasses repeated, then chuckled, “It’s definitely a beautiful fool.”

Jiang Mi smiled, “It’s a long-haired beauty, too.”

The man adjusted his gold-rimmed glasses, then took the opportunity to invite her, “I had a friend’s hound stay at my place for a while. We can discuss dog-raising tips when you have time.”

Jiang Mi’s gaze shifted to Gu Chuan. “Sure.”

Gu Chuan faintly tugged at the corner of his lips.

Bai Ruanruan was green with jealousy, thinking to herself that all the attention, all the admiration, and all the affection should have been hers. It was all taken by Jiang Mi, things that should’ve been hers to claim.

Shen Mingxuan, too, was frustrated. The ugly girl who once pestered him had now turned into a stunning beauty, and worse, she ignored him. This must have been intentional, a ploy to draw his attention!

Even though he knew Jiang Mi was doing it on purpose, Shen Mingxuan couldn’t help but feel irritated. So, when he heard Gu Chuan was about to perform martial arts in front of the crowd, he didn’t hesitate to step forward!
