Tan Yixuan glanced at Wang Sasa’s phone on the desk, feeling a twinge of curiosity. As far as she knew, Wang Sasa was not the type to let someone off so easily, especially after having a hold over Yu Xiaowen. It was unusual for her to just lift the phone and set it down lightly, letting the matter go so easily.
Noticing the attention from beside her, Wang Sasa calmly set down the mirror, glanced at her phone, and smiled slightly. “What, are you curious about what I filmed?” Without waiting for Tan Yixuan’s response, she thrust the phone into Tan Yixuan’s hand and said with a smile, “Here, take a look yourself.”
Tan Yixuan was taken aback when suddenly handed a phone. After a moment, she stared at Wang Sasa, who was once again absorbed in fixing her appearance in the mirror. Tan Yixuan bit her lip, looked at the phone in her hand, and after a pause, returned it.
Wang Sasa, briefly distracted from her busy schedule, glanced at Tan Yixuan with a half-smile and said, “What’s wrong? Aren’t you going to look? Once this opportunity is gone, it won’t come back.”
In fact, Wang Sasa had her back to them during the incident, and Yu Xiaowen’s actions were very discreet, so she didn’t capture the crucial parts on video. The footage alone was insufficient to incriminate Yu Xiaowen. That’s why Wang Sasa’s threats were more show than substance.
Tan Yixuan didn’t turn her head, her voice cool and clear, “I won’t thank you.”
Wang Sasa pouted, knowing Tan Yixuan was not the type to repay kindness with kindness. The original owner had been much harsher than Yu Xiaowen. What Wang Sasa had done was just a small favor, and getting Tan Yixuan to fully let go of her resentment was still a long way off. However, seeing Tan Yixuan’s gradually softened attitude, Wang Sasa felt that her efforts were not in vain.
Slow progress in improving her reputation was fine as long as it was effective. Besides, she hadn’t yet used her trump card.
Determined to change her image, Wang Sasa paid attention in class and no longer spaced out. Although she understood the material, she acted diligently to alter her image as a problematic student in the teachers’ eyes. The teachers of Class 6 in the senior year had noticed Wang Sasa’s changes over the past month, but they were unsure whether to praise or encourage her. After all, no one knew if she was genuinely committed to studying or just putting on an act. If she was just pretending, they might end up regretting their praise later.
At this moment, the English teacher saw Wang Sasa’s hand raised high and felt concerned. Should he continue to ignore her or let her stand up to answer the question? After a moment’s hesitation, seeing Wang Sasa’s bright and clear gaze, the teacher, almost on a whim, called out her name. As soon as he did, he regretted it but couldn’t undo the call without seeming dismissive.
Wang Sasa, oblivious to the teacher’s anxiety about her answering the question, stood up with a straight posture. A stray lock of hair fell from her cheek, and she tucked it behind her ear with her index finger. The sunlight streaming through the window bathed her delicate face, making her look even more attractive.
When she spoke, her soft and delicate voice reading from the English textbook revealed a surprisingly melodious tone. Everyone was taken aback to find that the once feared Wang Sasa had such a pleasant and fluent voice, even better than the English teacher’s.
When Wang Sasa finished reading a passage in English, the entire class fell silent.
Her classmates stared at her in awe as if they were seeing her for the first time. Wang Sasa maintained a serious demeanor on the outside, but her vanity swelled inside. She nonchalantly flicked her hair and smiled slightly at the English teacher. “Teacher, I’m done.”
The English teacher, a young man in his late twenties, was momentarily brought back to his senses by her response. He turned red, stammering, “V-very good. Please sit down.”
Wang Sasa was used to being admired and took her seat with composure.
Her classmates continued to gaze at her slender and graceful figure, and a shared thought arose in their minds: Wang Sasa seemed different now?
After class, Wang Sasa’s lackeys gathered around her, especially Zhou Yunlu, who lavished her with exaggerated praise. While Wang Sasa enjoyed being complimented, Zhou Yunlu’s overt and relentless flattery made her quite uncomfortable. She glanced at Zhou Yunlu but didn’t respond.
“Boss, I didn’t know your spoken English was so good. Why didn’t I know before?”
Zhou Yunlu had a chic short haircut, an androgynous appearance, and stood nearly 1.7 meters tall. If she weren’t wearing a dress, no one would doubt she was a boy. Although Zhou Yunlu meant well, she had disrupted Wang Sasa’s plans several times before. Despite her seemingly casual demeanor, Zhou Yunlu was quite perceptive.
Wang Sasa collected her thoughts and explained, “You know I travel abroad often. Learning spoken English is basic.”
Zhou Yunlu nodded in understanding.
Chai Kejia asked seemingly casually, “Wei Qi’s birthday is tomorrow. Sasa, did you receive an invitation?”
Wang Sasa and Wei Qi had grown up together, and their families knew each other. Even if Wei Qi didn’t invite Wang Sasa, her parents would. Wang Sasa understood why Chai Kejia asked this because, given her background, it was unlikely she would receive an invitation. She wasn’t friends with Wei Qi, so there was even less chance of an invitation. Chai Kejia’s interest in Wei Qi was the reason she approached Wang Sasa.
Wang Sasa felt a pang of irritation at Chai Kejia’s manipulative behavior.
She couldn’t understand why Chai Kejia, who liked Wei Qi, would go through the trouble of approaching Wang Sasa. Didn’t she know that by staying close to Wang Sasa, she would only further alienate herself from Wei Qi? Wang Sasa was unsure how sincere Chai Kejia’s interest was.
Wang Sasa smiled and shrugged, thinking, ‘What does it have to do with me?’
Despite knowing Chai Kejia was eager to attend, Wang Sasa feigned disappointment, saying, “Wei Qi dislikes me. Why would he invite me?”
Chai Kejia smiled and concealed her deeper intentions, deliberately shrugging and saying, “That’s a pity. You seem to like him so much…”
She was cut off by Wang Sasa.
“I need to correct you on that,” Wang Sasa said seriously, not willing to lower her standards. She added with a hint of disdain, “With someone like Wei Qi? He’s not worth my liking.”
Though Wang Sasa spoke seriously, her words lacked convincing power. After all, her lackeys had witnessed how much the original owner had grovelled for Wei Qi. The distrustful looks from her friends made it clear what they thought.
Wang Sasa sighed lightly, feeling a bit helpless.
Wei Qi’s birthday party was scheduled for Saturday. Although the party officially started at six in the evening, the school had extra classes on Saturdays, and by the time classes ended at five, with some time needed to get ready and travel, she would likely arrive around seven. However, for Wei Qi and his crowd, skipping class didn’t matter much. He didn’t think it would be an issue to have Tan Yixuan take time off for his party.
Wang Sasa was surprised that after the midday incident, Wei Qi still had the nerve to invite her. At dinner time, as Wang Sasa was heading to the cafeteria, Wei Qi stopped her. He stared at her for a moment, as if trying to figure something out, and then said flatly, “My mom wants you to come tomorrow.”
Unlike Wei Qi’s rejection, his parents were supportive of the union between their families. Wang Sasa knew Wei Qi was reluctant, but she was even less interested. Seeing Tan Yixuan walk past and grow further away, she couldn’t help but roll her eyes and speak sharply to Wei Qi, “Don’t worry, I definitely won’t go. You’re blocking my way, move.”
Without waiting for Wei Qi’s response, Wang Sasa finished her sentence and walked away to catch up with Tan Yixuan.
Wei Qi stood there, watching Wang Sasa’s retreating figure, feeling like he didn’t quite recognize his childhood friend anymore. Although Wang Sasa had indeed not bothered him for a long time, which pleased Wei Qi, he felt a faint, fleeting sense of loss. The feeling was brief and quickly faded.
“Wei Qi!” Yu Xiaowen’s voice suddenly called out, causing Wei Qi to turn and completely forget about Wang Sasa.
When Wang Sasa arrived at the cafeteria, Tan Yixuan had already bought her food and found a seat. Wang Sasa raised an eyebrow and went to get her meal. Thanks to the original owner’s intimidating reputation, no one dared to cut in line, so Wang Sasa calmly waited. Students in front of her turned around and, seeing her, were visibly frightened.
By the time Wang Sasa realized what had happened, half the line had cleared. She felt a mix of amusement and resignation, accepting everyone’s “consideration” without any psychological burden. When she returned to Tan Yixuan’s side, she found the only empty seat next to her occupied by someone she recognized—Ji Yiran, one of her four lackeys.
Ji Yiran had a delicate appearance, shoulder-length curly hair, and was usually quiet. She was the previous victim of bullying before Tan Yixuan transferred. Although Tan Yixuan initially got along well with everyone, she couldn’t stand seeing classmates being bullied.
At that time, Tan Yixuan was Ji Yiran’s only friend. However, Tan Yixuan did not expect that Ji Yiran would betray her without hesitation in order to fit in with the group. Although Ji Yiran did not participate in bullying Tan Yixuan, her silence spoke volumes about her stance.
When Ji Yiran was bullied, Tan Yixuan stepped up for her. But when Tan Yixuan was bullied, Ji Yiran, fearing being implicated, pretended not to see. After all, the original owner disliked Tan Yixuan so much that if it were known in the original owner that they had once been friends, Ji Yiran would have been ruthlessly expelled from the group.
Seeing the two sitting together, Wang Sasa raised an eyebrow with a hint of amusement in her smile.
It seemed there would be more drama to watch with these two around.
