Chapter 22: Is Mr. Fu Suffering from Split Personality Disorder?
Mu Ruo: “Um, can I ask you a question?”
Butler Li smiled: “Please go ahead.”
“Am I the first woman Mr. Fu has brought home? Did you notice him smiling at me in a special way…”
Like the classic novel scenes of “first time seeing Mr. Fu bring a woman home,” “first time seeing Mr. Fu being so gentle with a woman,” “first time seeing Mr. Fu smile.”
Butler Li: “No.”
Fu Jianzhi’s company also has female executives, and it’s normal for high-ranking officials to come over for emergency meetings from time to time.
As for Mr. Fu smiling at women—regardless of his true nature, he has always maintained a gentlemanly demeanor in public, making many people feel refreshed and uplifted.
Mu Ruo: “I see.”
As a villainess in a novel, she wasn’t destined to be the heroine, so she couldn’t expect Mr. Fu to treat her differently.
She should just focus on doing her tasks well and honestly accept the high salary that Mr. Fu provides.
Mu Ruo was assigned to the bedroom she had stayed in before.
Her bedroom was very close to Fu Jianzhi’s, so Butler Li reminded her: “Mr. Fu has poor sleep, so if he returns home at night, please make no noise.”
Mu Ruo nodded.
Seeing that Mu Ruo was no longer like she used to be, Butler Li’s attitude towards her had changed significantly: “Madam, I would like to remind you, please don’t provoke Mr. Fu casually. He’s not someone you can mess with.”
This advice came from Butler Li’s heart.
He had witnessed various methods of Fu Jianzhi.
The more genteel and refined he appeared in public, the more ruthless and merciless he was behind the scenes.
Men who have reached Fu Jianzhi’s level are inherently dangerous.
The Mu family, though wealthy in the eyes of ordinary people, seemed quite modest compared to the Fu family.
If Mu Ruo really did something to upset Fu Jianzhi, it would be easy for him to deal with her.
Butler Li knew that although he meant well, his words might sound a bit harsh, as if he were warning her not to set her sights on his master.
Thus, he could accept if Mu Ruo suddenly turned cold towards him.
However, Mu Ruo nodded lightly, acknowledging his words.
Fu Jianzhi came home very late and might have gone somewhere else that night, not coming back to stay at home.
Mu Ruo didn’t see him for two or three days.
She had a habit of getting up in the middle of the night for water, and that night, when she went to the refrigerator for a drink, she saw a dark shadow on the sofa in the living room, almost giving her a fright.
Upon closer inspection, Mu Ruo realized it was Fu Jianzhi sleeping on the sofa.
Perhaps because of the summer and frequent rain in Rongcheng, especially at night.
A man of Fu Jianzhi’s status shouldn’t be exposed to the wind and rain, but Mu Ruo found him completely soaked through.
Butler Li was older and must have been sleeping deeply at that hour, which was understandable. However, there were other night-watch servants in the house, yet none of them had reminded Fu Jianzhi to change into dry clothes before sleeping. This struck Mu Ruo as very odd.
She poured ice water into a cup, heated it in the microwave, and made it warm.
Mu Ruo carefully approached Fu Jianzhi with the warm water and gently nudged his shoulder: “Mr. Fu?”
Fu Jianzhi was in deep sleep, his thick eyelashes casting a small shadow under his eyes. Even in the dim light, his features were still deep and handsome, more perfect than many Greek statues Mu Ruo had seen.
Mu Ruo thought he might be extremely exhausted.
After all, a serious professional like Mr. Fu was different from the emotional and heart-wrenching CEOs like Lu Beichen.
But as soon as she spoke, Fu Jianzhi opened his eyes.
For some reason, at this moment, his gaze was completely different from what Mu Ruo usually saw, as if it were a cold, sharp knife. His aura was also starkly different.
It was as if spring had suddenly transitioned to winter.
More intuitively, it was like seeing a gentle male idol turn into a bloodthirsty beast at night.
Mu Ruo took a step back, her hand holding the cup trembling slightly.
Fu Jianzhi coldly glanced at Mu Ruo: “What are you doing here?”
Mu Ruo: “Four days ago, you agreed to let me move in.”
Fu Jianzhi’s mind was in a muddle; he couldn’t clearly recall whether he had actually agreed to Mu Ruo’s request.
At the moment, he didn’t want to see anyone. When Mu Ruo offered him the warm water, he slapped the cup out of her hand, and it shattered on the floor, steam rising as it dissipated.
Butler Li hurried downstairs upon hearing the commotion.
He seemed accustomed to such scenes, with no extra expression on his face and his tone unchanged: “Madam, Mr. Fu is drunk. Please return to your room and rest. Mr. Fu, you stay on the sofa; I will clean up here.”
Mu Ruo didn’t smell any alcohol on Fu Jianzhi; he didn’t seem drunk at all.
However, following Butler Li’s silent instruction, she returned to her room.
Butler Li cleaned up the broken glass and didn’t mention Fu Jianzhi on the sofa again, going back to his room.
Mu Ruo, remembering his wet clothes and hair, was genuinely worried about him catching a cold. Normally, someone in his state would likely develop a high fever or pneumonia the next day.
Even if Mu Ruo wasn’t paid, she couldn’t ignore such a situation.
The air conditioning at home was set to 16°C, and she needed to be covered with a blanket to sleep. So, she secretly adjusted the thermostat to warm air.
The next morning, Mu Ruo, as usual, went to the dining room to enjoy her nearly five-star hotel-style breakfast alone.
Except today, it was set for two.
Fu Jianzhi was sitting at the table.
He was dressed in a black shirt and black trousers, all expensive and custom-made, making him look even more handsome.
Compared to his icy demeanor the night before, he seemed warm and gentle today, almost like a different person.
“Good morning.”
Mu Ruo was a bit dazed: “Uh, good morning.”
Butler Li smiled: “Madam, please sit down and have your breakfast.”
Mu Ruo sat down obediently. She didn’t ask or mention anything about the previous night.
Fu Jianzhi quickly finished his breakfast and left.
As soon as he was gone, Mu Ruo’s curiosity flared up: “Butler Li, does Mr. Fu have split personality disorder? One personality during the day and another at night?”
Butler Li’s face twitched and he coughed vigorously.
Mu Ruo: “Hmm?”
Fu Jianzhi, holding a cup of coffee, glanced at her with a half-smile: “Are you so curious about me, Madam?”
Mu Ruo made a zipping-mouth gesture to herself, then lowered her head and took a large bite of her sandwich.
