Chapter 29: Even the Strong Have Their Moments of Weakness
Mu Ruo pushed open the door.
Hmm.
The living room was empty, not a single person in sight.
It seemed that the busy big boss had not come back yet.
Mu Ruo looked at the cake in her hand. Through the transparent packaging, she felt as if the cake was waving at her, crying out for her to eat it.
Mu Ruo thought for a moment and then headed to the kitchen to put the cake in the fridge.
Just then, she heard footsteps.
A man wearing a black bathrobe, with his wet hair not yet dried, was coming down from upstairs.
Perhaps he hadn’t expected Mu Ruo to come back tonight, so Fu Jianzhi’s bathrobe wasn’t fastened, revealing his collarbone.
Mu Ruo quickly glanced at him and then awkwardly used her hand to cover her eyes.
Fu Jianzhi said coolly, “Does covering your eyes like that really help?”
No, it didn’t.
Because she was holding something, and she was covering her eyes with one hand.
Mu Ruo coughed, “To prove that I’m not interested in your perfect physique.”
Standing tall and slim when dressed, Mu Ruo had not expected Fu Jianzhi to have such an impressive body when undressed.
If the big boss ever unfortunately went bankrupt, he could still become a top model with that body.
Fu Jianzhi’s lips curled into a faint smile.
Mu Ruo noticed that he didn’t seem to be in a good mood.
“Ahem.” Mu Ruo took out the cake she was holding, “Well, everyone at home is gone, and I was afraid you might be hungry tonight. Today was Beichen’s birthday, so I packed a piece of cake for you.”
“Oh.” Fu Jianzhi looked at the cake in Mu Ruo’s hand, “Madam went through the trouble to cut it so perfectly round.”
Mu Ruo also looked down.
“……”
She had bought a four-inch small cake, which was a whole, palm-sized cake, not a slice.
Mu Ruo, worried he might misunderstand that she had specially bought it for him, said, “I originally planned to have it for breakfast. If you don’t want it, that’s fine…”
Before she could finish speaking, Fu Jianzhi took the cake from her hand, “Thank you for the late-night snack, Madam.”
Mu Ruo watched as he sat on the sofa in the living room, elegantly and leisurely cutting the small cake.
Fu Jianzhi had a very unique aura, completely different from others.
Even when he was doing something as simple as this, his presence was hard to ignore.
He probably aimed to give off a gentle and warm vibe, but there were always inadvertent moments when he seemed full of the arrogance and coldness of a superior.
Mu Ruo now regretted not buying an eight-inch cake.
Watching him eat while she had nothing was making her crave it.
Fu Jianzhi cut a piece and placed it on a plate in front of him, then pushed the rest towards Mu Ruo.
Mu Ruo asked, “Mine?”
Fu Jianzhi replied with a half-smile, “Who else?”
Mu Ruo tasted a bite, and it was indeed delicious. Not too sweet, not cloying, and the freshness of the fruit was fully integrated.
No wonder such a small cake cost her 388 yuan.
Fu Jianzhi didn’t particularly like these kinds of things.
From childhood to adulthood, he had never celebrated his birthday.
To him, it wasn’t something worth celebrating.
He wasn’t sure how Mu Ruo knew it was his birthday, but judging by her actions today, she definitely knew.
Knowing yet not saying anything directly, instead using this sneaky little trick, Fu Jianzhi found it quite novel.
If it were the old Mu Ruo, she wouldn’t touch sweets this late, let alone drink a drop of water for fear of waking up puffy.
The girl in front of him was eating with relish. Despite having a stunningly beautiful face, her actions had a kind of endearing clumsiness. She was taking big bites of the cake, which was completely at odds with her overall refined demeanor.
Fu Jianzhi’s gaze lingered on her for a moment.
Mu Ruo noticed him staring.
She felt uneasy.
She always had the feeling that being watched by someone as powerful as Fu Jianzhi was not a good thing.
“What, what is it?”
Fu Jianzhi pointed at her nose.
Mu Ruo touched it and realized she had accidentally gotten some cream on her nose while eating.
She felt a bit embarrassed. “It’s really tasty, don’t you think?”
“Why did you come back today?” Fu Jianzhi asked with a mysterious tone, “Didn’t the man you love to death ask you to stay?”
Mu Ruo: “…”
Can we not talk about Lu Beichen?
Just thinking about Lu Beichen gave Mu Ruo a headache.
Hearing Fu Jianzhi describe her as loving Lu Beichen “to death” made her feel even worse.
It felt similar to when a popular, rebellious student in school teased you, and the top student with a clean-cut appearance asked you when you would be with that rebel, mocking your taste.
…It felt like he was ridiculing her taste in men.
However, after acting for so many years, Mu Ruo knew how to adjust her emotions quickly.
She lowered her eyelashes, hiding her misty eyes, giving her an air of grievance and sadness. “He has a girlfriend. How could he let me stay? I can only wait until they break up.”
Seeing her like this, Fu Jianzhi couldn’t help but think that Lu Beichen was blind.
Men like Lu Beichen never caught Fu Jianzhi’s attention; they weren’t even in the same circle.
“I know you like him,” Fu Jianzhi’s tone suddenly turned cold, “But remember, publicly, you are my wife. Don’t get too close to him.”
Mu Ruo nodded, “Rest assured, Mr. Fu. I know my boundaries. I won’t bring shame to the Fu family.”
She quickly finished the cake in front of her. Still unsatisfied, she sipped on lemon water.
Having eaten too much in the evening, Mu Ruo didn’t feel like moving. She curled up on the sofa and turned on the TV to watch a variety show.
The variety show was a bit noisy. Fu Jianzhi, who never watched such programs, continued eating his cake leisurely. When he finished and was about to go back to his room, he noticed that Mu Ruo had fallen asleep on the sofa.
Her long black hair was spread across her chest, making her small face look even more delicate and innocent.
When choosing a marriage partner, it was Butler Li who helped screen candidates. He said Mu Ruo was the most beautiful among them.
Fu Jianzhi knew Mu Ruo was a beauty, but he never cared much for her looks.
Now, seeing her asleep, he realized she was indeed quite pretty.
Just a bit blind.
That night when the cold air from the air conditioner turned into warm air, he knew it was Mu Ruo.
Fu Jianzhi didn’t act like a gentleman and carry Mu Ruo to her bed. Instead, he took one of his jackets and draped it over her.
