Chapter 37: “Tonight’s Sleeping Companion”
Mu Ruo only remembered that she had left her phone on the sofa outside after she finished her shower.
She hurried out to get it.
As soon as she came downstairs, she saw Fu Jianzhi.
From Mu Ruo’s perspective, Fu Jianzhi was indeed a handsome man—he had looks, physique, and charm all in spades.
Unfortunately—he had taken the extreme path of the domineering CEO trope.
In the novels Mu Ruo had read, there were two types of domineering CEOs. One was like Lu Beichen, who had low intelligence, tormented the female lead physically and emotionally, trusted the female villain, and was manipulated by her to harm the female lead. In the end, his intelligence would return to normal, and after dealing with the villains, he would be sweet with the female lead. Of course, such a domineering CEO would have been entangled with countless women.
The other type was inherently allergic to women, maintaining their purity and only interacting with their destined true love.
As the extremely tragic and villainous white moonlight of this book, Mu Ruo was very clear that she belonged to the category of “messy women.”
So, for a handsome man like Fu Jianzhi, Mu Ruo could only look at him briefly.
She had self-awareness and a strong will to survive.
She would never jeopardize her life for a trivial romantic issue.
After searching for a while and not finding her phone, she looked up and saw her phone with a pink case in Fu Jianzhi’s hand.
Fu Jianzhi was unceremoniously playing with her phone right in front of its owner.
Mu Ruo: “?”
Mu Ruo: “Mr. Fu, it looks like you’re holding my phone.”
“‘Pampered 99 Times: The Billionaire CEO’s Runaway Little Wife,’” Fu Jianzhi said with a light laugh, “Does Madam usually enjoy this kind of thing?”
Mu Ruo: “Uh.”
What else would she read?
Sometimes, to fit the role she was playing in a drama, she had to slog through several profound works, and it was common for her to wear cotton clothes in summer and dresses in winter during filming.
She had worked so hard; after work, she certainly wouldn’t read something heavy like Les Misérables or War and Peace.
She would never let anyone laugh at her taste: “Mr. Fu, you definitely don’t understand how charming the men in these stories are.”
Fu Jianzhi smiled: “Oh?”
Mu Ruo: “They are worth billions, the rulers of business empires.”
Fu Jianzhi: “Hmm.”
Quite coincidentally, Fu Jianzhi was also worth billions.
Mu Ruo: “They are 1.86 meters tall and more handsome than celebrities.”
Fu Jianzhi: “Hmm.”
Quite coincidentally, Fu Jianzhi was 1.88 meters tall and more handsome than Lu Beichen, who was handsome enough to be a male star.
Mu Ruo: “They give their wives luxury homes worth ten billion.”
Fu Jianzhi: “Hmm.”
Quite coincidentally, the villa Fu Jianzhi lived in was worth eleven billion.
Fu Jianzhi smiled: “Then let’s give this villa to Madam.”
Mu Ruo: “!!!”
Mu Ruo looked at Fu Jianzhi cautiously, as if she were seeing the most respectable person in the world: “Really?”
Fu Jianzhi lightly tapped her head with the phone: “Take the left staircase upstairs, go to your room to sleep, and everything in your dreams will be real.”
Mu Ruo expressionlessly snatched her phone back from him.
She knew it.
However, Mu Ruo suddenly remembered something: “Um, Mr. Fu, if I suddenly become an actress and start filming, it won’t violate the contract, will it? Will your family object?”
Fu Jianzhi sneered: “Why would they object?”
Mu Ruo: “I heard that some wealthy families are very strict.”
“Mrs. Fu, as long as you please me, you can do whatever you want as long as I’m happy.”
Mu Ruo was quite tempted: “Can I ask you to invest ten billion in making an epic sci-fi space war film starring me?”
“In your dreams, you can. I allow you to dream like that.”
Mu Ruo stomped loudly on the floor, transforming into a fire-breathing dragon, and went upstairs to sleep.
Butler Li sighed: “I always thought Madam was an elegant and gentle lady.”
Fu Jianzhi inexplicably chuckled.
Soon, it was late at night.
Butler Li brought a cup of warm water for Fu Jianzhi to take his medicine before going to bed.
However, Fu Jianzhi knew that these medicines wouldn’t do much for him.
He would still suffer from insomnia.
These days, with ongoing projects, he couldn’t numb himself with alcohol.
Surprisingly, his sleep had been unexpectedly good after spending two nights holding Mu Ruo.
Their rooms were adjacent, and now, in the quiet of the night, if there was any loud noise in Mu Ruo’s room, Fu Jianzhi would be able to hear it.
That’s why Butler Li had reminded Mu Ruo to avoid making any noise after Fu Jianzhi returned.
Clearly, Mu Ruo had forgotten this.
In the middle of the night, her phone rang. Without checking who was calling, she answered the phone.
A slightly drunk man’s voice came through: “Ruo Ruo, I had a fight with Wanwan.”
Mu Ruo: “Lu Beichen?”
She almost wanted to scold Lu Beichen in her mind.
Why was he calling her in the middle of the night, ranting about his personal problems?
Mu Ruo knew very well that Lu Beichen and Xia Wanwan had quarreled.
She had witnessed the whole thing.
Upon hearing “Lu Beichen,” Fu Jianzhi sneered.
He spent twenty million a month to support Mu Ruo, not to let her stay up all night talking to another man.
Mu Ruo, unwilling to be an emotional dumpster in the middle of the night, quickly hung up the phone.
Before she could catch her breath, there was a knock at the door.
Opening it, she found Fu Jianzhi standing outside with a cold expression.
Fu Jianzhi was wearing a black silk robe with intricate hand-embroidered patterns, which made him look exceptionally handsome.
Mu Ruo was almost blinded by his good looks.
Mu Ruo: “Mr. Fu?”
Fu Jianzhi said coldly: “Did Butler Li not inform you that you mustn’t make any noise at night?”
Mu Ruo: “Uh, I’m sorry.”
Fu Jianzhi turned: “Your salary for next month will be deducted.”
Mu Ruo quickly grabbed him: “No, please don’t.”
She had only worked here and hadn’t received any salary yet.
The payday was just a few days away, and if her salary was deducted suddenly, how would she manage?
Mu Ruo clung to the sleeve of his robe.
Fu Jianzhi glanced at her hand.
The girl’s fingers were particularly delicate and white, as if they might drip with water if lightly pinched.
Mu Ruo also looked down at her hand, then suddenly withdrew it with a sigh.
How could she, with her poisonous second female lead aura, dare to touch a big shot like him?
“Do you want to make amends?”
Mu Ruo nodded.
Fu Jianzhi smirked: “It’s not impossible.”
Mu Ruo’s hope was instantly rekindled.
She knew Fu Jianzhi couldn’t be that mean.
Fu Jianzhi’s narrow, deep-set eyes glinted with a hint of malice: “Tonight, you’ll sleep with me.”
Mu Ruo’s vigilance soared: “Just sleeping, nothing else?”
Fu Jianzhi laughed: “Does Madam think I have any other intentions towards you?”
Mu Ruo was silent.
It didn’t seem like he did.
Sleeping together was fine.
After all, Mr. Fu was so handsome.
They had shared a bed before, so it wasn’t unfamiliar.
