Chapter 44: Take Advantage of the Capitalist When You Can
Men’s body temperature is generally higher than women’s, and Mu Ruo was feeling especially weak at the moment, her hands and feet icy cold.
Fu Jianzhi’s large hand covered almost her entire thin waist.
Mu Ruo initially wondered if this was inappropriate.
But with his warm hand pressing against her, the pain did indeed start to subside.
If you can take advantage of a capitalist, you should.
And even more so if he’s a handsome capitalist.
A certain master once said, only a fool wouldn’t take advantage when they can.
She had been like a sleeping cat for so long, why couldn’t Fu Jianzhi be her hot water bottle just this once?
Mu Ruo snuggled closer in Fu Jianzhi’s arms, even pressing her cold feet against his calves.
The painkiller’s effect kicked in quickly, and Mu Ruo’s body gradually warmed up. She fell asleep against Fu Jianzhi without even realizing it.
Fu Jianzhi’s gaze was dark, inscrutable.
If Mu Ruo could see his expression at this moment, she would be terrified and wouldn’t dare to stay in the embrace of such a dangerous man.
But, unfortunately, the world doesn’t work that way.
Fu Jianzhi looked at her sleeping face, his hand unconsciously moving to her neck.
Her pale, slender neck looked so delicate.
If he were to exert force, would she remain forever in his arms, never thinking of Lu Beichen again?
Fu Jianzhi’s thoughts were chaotic. His usually gentle and handsome features seemed somewhat sinister and cold under the light.
After a while, he slowly released his hand, took a pill from the drawer, and swallowed it with some warm water.
The next morning, when Mu Ruo woke up, the painkiller’s effect had worn off slightly, leaving her with a dull ache.
Unexpectedly, Fu Jianzhi hadn’t gotten up yet.
Mu Ruo checked the time.
It was already eight o’clock.
Their intimate sleeping position didn’t seem appropriate for a mere employer-employee relationship.
Mu Ruo convinced herself that he was not just her boss but also her husband, then quietly slipped out of his embrace.
Just then, Fu Jianzhi woke up.
He glanced at Mu Ruo indifferently.
Mu Ruo: “Good morning.”
Fu Jianzhi got out of bed and headed to the bathroom: “Morning.”
Mu Ruo followed him: “Um, I need to move out for a few days.”
“Where to?”
“I need to join the crew for training and stay at the hotel with everyone.”
“For how many days? Where exactly?”
Mu Ruo sighed: “Who knows how many days. The filming location is at the West District Film City. The group chat says it’s very hot recently, and the shooting and training are tough.”
After being a rich housewife for so many days.
Finally, she was going to be a hardworking woman again.
“Who’s your director?”
“Director Zhao Jie. You must have heard of him.” Mu Ruo was full of hope for the future, “Mr. Fu, when I become famous, I’ll endorse your company’s products.”
Fu Jianzhi: “Dream on.”
Since the boss was going to take a morning shower, Mu Ruo had no right to stay and watch. Under Fu Jianzhi’s gaze, she left the room.
Mu Ruo didn’t expect that even after moving away from civilization and Lu Beichen, she would still encounter Xia Wanwan.
It turned out that her bond with the female protagonist was unusually strong.
Xia Wanwan, after a fight with Lu Beichen, angrily went out to find a job and ended up as the receptionist at the hotel where Mu Ruo was currently staying.
“Sister Ruo Ruo, what a coincidence.” Xia Wanwan bit her lip, “I didn’t expect to see you here.”
The film crew had booked rooms at the hotel, so Xia Wanwan naturally knew they were there for filming.
Xia Wanwan had arrived earlier and, being very sociable, had befriended many crew members and established good relationships with them.
Mu Ruo retrieved her ID without engaging in conversation.
There was really nothing to say.
Xia Wanwan hid the disappointment in her eyes.
These days, Xia Wanwan had been out looking for a job. With her decent education, she could have found a better position. However, given the current economic downturn and her sudden departure from Lu Beichen, finding a good job in a short period was challenging.
To prove a point, she refused to live in Lu Beichen’s house and chose to rent a place on her own. Recently, she had also undergone some minor cosmetic surgery, leaving her with very little money. To cover her rent and utility bills, she temporarily took a hotel job that allowed her to start quickly.
But—
Despite Mu Ruo not being as diligent or hardworking as Xia Wanwan, and lacking any relevant experience, she managed to secure a role in Director Zhao’s prestigious film crew just because of her looks.
The more Xia Wanwan thought about it, the more unfair it seemed.
“Sister Ruo Ruo, why did you switch careers to become an actress?” Xia Wanwan said loudly, “Director Zhao’s crew is hard to get into, right? You don’t have any experience, so you’ll probably face some challenges. If you need any help, please ask me. We were classmates, and I’ll definitely help you.”
Several actors from the same crew overheard Xia Wanwan’s words.
These people knew that Director Zhao had selected a newcomer to play the princess in the movie.
Director Zhao’s crew was indeed hard to get into, and several school beauties from Rongcheng had auditioned for the role.
To be honest, Mu Ruo’s beauty indeed matched the movie’s requirement for an unparalleled beauty.
Even without makeup or costume, she was outstanding. With makeup, she would undoubtedly be even more stunning.
However, Mu Ruo was not from an acting background and had no experience or notable work to her name.
How could someone like her get into Director Zhao’s crew without some inside connections?
Seeing Mu Ruo’s face, they could only assume she must have gotten close to some producer.
These actors had landed small roles in the movie and had put in a lot of effort to get there.
Now, hearing Xia Wanwan, they couldn’t help but gossip.
“A career switcher…”
“No experience at all, just relying on her looks?”
“Can’t imagine her acting alongside award-winning actors. Just wait for Director Zhao to lose his temper on set.”
“…”
Mu Ruo gave Xia Wanwan a cold look: “Don’t act like we’re close. Are we even that familiar?”
Xia Wanwan felt embarrassed: “I—”
Mu Ruo took her room key and went upstairs.
After she left, Xia Wanwan’s colleague curiously asked, “Wanwan, do you know that beauty?”
Xia Wanwan looked down: “Yeah. She liked my boyfriend, so I broke up with him and had to find a job.”
Xia Wanwan felt she wasn’t lying.
Mu Ruo did like her boyfriend.
And she indeed had broken up with Lu Beichen and had to find a new job.
But to the listeners, it sounded like Mu Ruo had snatched Xia Wanwan’s boyfriend, forcing Xia Wanwan to leave and find a new job.
“Who would’ve thought.” Xia Wanwan’s colleague was angry, “Wanwan, you’re too kind. If it were me, I wouldn’t just ignore her; I’d expose everything she’s done to show everyone her true face.”
Xia Wanwan smiled helplessly: “Forget it. Getting into a big director’s crew is tough. I won’t stoop to such mean behavior.”
