Chapter 53: But Fu Jianzhi is Very Special
Mu Ruo felt a deep sadness.
She thought that if the original character were here, hearing the sounds from the next room, she would be heartbroken.
Lu Beichen deliberately let her hear it to hurt her.
But that wasn’t what made Mu Ruo sad.
She was upset because, despite having endured so much hardship and being overlooked and bullied as a newcomer in her original world, she thought that with her experience, things would be different in this world. Yet, similar experiences were happening to her again.
Perhaps it was her personality that was truly unlikable, making her bad at socializing.
As her previous agent had said, she would never bend or fawn, and thus, would always end up with minor roles.
Maybe it was her fate.
But she allowed herself only a moment of weakness; once it passed, she moved forward as always.
Mu Ruo blinked her eyes: “Mr. Fu?”
Fu Jianzhi’s hand was holding Mu Ruo’s chin, his thumb gently brushing her soft lips: “It’s the first time I’ve seen you so sad.”
For some reason, if it had been someone else this close, holding her chin, Mu Ruo would have been very repulsed.
But Fu Jianzhi was different.
Anything he did seemed justified, never making her feel uncomfortable.
Mu Ruo felt her lips aching slightly from his touch. She gently grasped his hand and took it down: “Mr. Fu, I’m already so sad, please be kind and don’t mock me.”
A hint of harshness flashed in Fu Jianzhi’s heart. His eyes were deep, but his words were as gentle as usual.
It was impossible to tell that this was the last thread of gentleness under a thunderous demeanor.
“Do you like him that much?”
Mu Ruo: “You wouldn’t understand.”
Just as the deep sea wouldn’t understand the grass swaying in the wind on the cliff.
Fu Jianzhi pinched her cheek: “Yes, I don’t understand. I only know that if you make me unhappy, I’ll make Lu Beichen go bankrupt.”
Mu Ruo: “Hmm?”
Finally, no more wage deductions?
She could keep her 20 million next month?
But to avoid arousing suspicion in Fu Jianzhi, Mu Ruo still pretended and said, “Don’t do that, he’s innocent.”
Fu Jianzhi chuckled.
Whether he was innocent or not, he didn’t know.
He only knew that anyone who made him unhappy wouldn’t have a good outcome.
The hotel room’s soundproofing was really poor.
Tonight, Lu Beichen seemed to be in a rage, and the scene with Xia Wanwan was particularly… uh, intense.
Given her years of reading novels, Mu Ruo found it a bit awkward to eavesdrop on them with Fu Jianzhi.
She tried pushing Fu Jianzhi: “Don’t press on me, you’re almost squashing me.”
Standing at nearly six feet tall, Fu Jianzhi was muscular and heavy.
Mu Ruo, with her naturally thin physique that never seemed to gain weight no matter how much she ate, found it uncomfortable being pinned under him. Only her chest and hips had any flesh, the rest of her being quite slim.
Especially in such an awkward situation.
The recent humid weather made the air smell of rain. After a day, Mu Ruo felt grimy and decided to take a shower.
She then thought of Fu Jianzhi: “Did you bring a change of clothes? What are you going to wear to sleep?”
Fu Jianzhi: “No, my assistant will bring some in the morning.”
Mu Ruo looked at him: “Are you sure you want to sleep in what you’re wearing? There’s a store next to the hotel that sells sleepwear.”
Fu Jianzhi, indifferent: “Are you going to run the errand?”
“Running errands is expensive,” Mu Ruo paused, “I can go with you.”
She didn’t know Fu Jianzhi’s clothing size.
Besides changing into pajamas after his shower, he would definitely need to change his underwear.
The noises from next door would likely continue for a while, so a walk might be a good idea. Perhaps by the time she returned, it would be quieter.
When she came back, the room was finally quiet.
Mu Ruo needed to go to the film set early the next morning, so she decided to go to bed early. She took a shower first.
After coming out and drying her hair, Fu Jianzhi went in.
It might be because they were in a hotel, without the presence of Butler Li or the nanny, but Mu Ruo felt something was off.
…It felt as if she and Fu Jianzhi were staying in a hotel together.
Mu Ruo shook her head, reminding herself not to overthink things.
For someone as particular as Fu Jianzhi, he wouldn’t stay in anything less than a five-star hotel.
After a while, Fu Jianzhi came out in a bathrobe.
Mu Ruo handed him the hairdryer: “It’s broken, only blowing cold air. You need to keep pressing here while using it, or no air will come out.”
Fu Jianzhi said, “You dry my hair.”
Mu Ruo responded, “…Alright then.”
Considering the two million, it was worth it.
So what if she had to dry the investor’s hair?
She stood on the bed, holding Fu Jianzhi’s shoulder with one hand and using the hairdryer with the other.
After drying his hair, Mu Ruo put the hairdryer aside and got into bed herself: “I need to go to the film set tomorrow morning. Mr. Fu, if you wake up early, please remember to wake me up.”
Fu Jianzhi had been sleeping very little these days, as usual.
Mu Ruo’s presence really had the perfect effect of putting him to sleep. She fell asleep quickly, sinking into dreams within ten minutes.
Fu Jianzhi also closed his eyes.
The next morning.
Mu Ruo found a corner at the film set to slowly eat her sandwich and strawberry milk.
Xia Wanwan came today as well. Even though she didn’t have any scenes, she brought various coffees and snacks for everyone.
Many people in the crew liked Xia Wanwan, who was like a warm, enthusiastic girl next door. In contrast, Mu Ruo, with her striking appearance and temperament, seemed like a pretentious and aloof character.
Xia Wanwan always brought snacks and showed concern for everyone.
In contrast, Mu Ruo, as a newcomer, only brought food for herself and never showed concern for others.
Given this, it was only natural that everyone preferred Xia Wanwan.
However, today Xia Wanwan, feeling guilty, didn’t dare approach Mu Ruo. Mu Ruo had a very bad expression, and Xia Wanwan was afraid she might hit her.
Because of the text message from yesterday, the leading actor had come to see Mu Ruo as a woman trying to advance through underhanded means, which made his attitude toward her very poor.
This sentiment was somewhat similar to the emotions of the male lead toward the princess in the script.
The leading actor’s skill was exceptional, as expected.
So much so that Mu Ruo almost couldn’t handle her scenes with him.
Almost.
“Click.”
Director Zhao looked at the long take replay and was indeed surprised.
He hadn’t expected that a newcomer like Mu Ruo could handle such an excellent performance from the leading actor.
At first, he thought Mu Ruo would be overshadowed and that they would have to shoot multiple takes. But she passed in one go.
The Best Actress didn’t have any scenes with Mu Ruo, but she had been on set these days.
Many people on set found the Best Actress difficult to deal with, always acting high-maintenance and unwilling to interact. Mu Ruo had little to do with her.
After this scene, the Best Actress was quite impressed and approached Mu Ruo to chat: “You did a good job, little girl. Have you signed with a company?”
Director Zhao gave the Best Actress a cold glance.
Another one trying to poach.
