Chapter 43
For a long time, Li Jicheng didn’t hear Lu Wei’s response.
Impatiently, he said, “When will you all finally acknowledge the fact that Lin Si is a patient? Did I not explain his condition clearly? You won’t find many Omegas who enter a false rut and completely lose consciousness like this. Can you just follow medical advice for once?”
Lu Wei didn’t wait any longer. He replied in a low voice, “Got it.” Then, he hung up.
Lin Si was straddling him, arms wrapped around his waist, the tip of his nose pressed against the gland on Lu Wei’s neck, exhaling warm breaths against it in waves.
Lu Wei ruffled Lin Si’s sweat-dampened hair and murmured a question, one that belonged only to Lu Wei— “Would you allow me to mark you?”
There was no response. Lu Wei’s hand moved to the back of Lin Si’s neck, pressing gently against his gland.
Almost instantly, Lin Si let out a whimper.
Beneath his fingers, Lu Wei could feel the gland pulsing under Lin Si’s delicate, fair skin. Leaning close to Lin Si’s ear, he whispered, “Lin Si, it’s me, Lu Wei. I’m going to give you a temporary mark now. If you can hear me, nod.”
But Lin Si only nuzzled against his cheek.
Lu Wei’s self-control was stretched to its limit. His voice came out hoarse, almost torn from his throat— “Baby, I’ll be gentle.”
Lin Si’s chin bumped against his shoulder, and Lu Wei took that as a nod.
He lowered his gaze to Lin Si’s gland, his throat burning like fire, heat spreading down to his chest. Before Lin Si could make another restless movement—
Lu Wei pressed a kiss against his gland.
The sheer dominance and suppression radiating from a top-tier Alpha overwhelmed Lin Si, scattering what little fragments of awareness he had left. He trembled instinctively under Lu Wei’s kiss, filled with a deep sense of fulfillment.
Two seconds later, his gland was pierced by Alpha’s teeth.
Pain made him unable to cry out.
But in that pain, the surge of Alpha pheromones drowned him in an intoxicating euphoria. His mouth opened soundlessly, tears clinging to the corners of his eyes as he gasped for breath.
Lin Si’s body was drenched in sweat, soaking through Lu Wei’s clothes. The room was flooded with the thick scent of Alpha and Omega pheromones.
Every muscle in Lu Wei’s body was taut. He had never expected that temporarily marking Lin Si would put him under such unbearable pressure—to the point where, for a brief moment, he almost lost control.
His fingers tightened around Lin Si’s waist, leaving red imprints on his skin.
His mind stretched and snapped, over and over again, until finally, Lu Wei let out a low, guttural growl from deep within his throat. He forced himself to release Lin Si, cupped his chin, and pressed soft kisses to the side of his head and the tip of his ear.
The post-marking intimacy of an Alpha greatly soothed the Omega. Lin Si buried himself in the crook of Lu Wei’s neck, tears spilling uncontrollably, his body trembling faintly.
Lu Wei took several deep breaths, his hand moving to Lin Si’s back, stroking him gently. He pressed another kiss to the bite mark on Lin Si’s gland, lingering until the wound no longer looked so harsh.
After being tormented for so long, Lin Si was completely drained. Crying softly, he drifted off to sleep in Lu Wei’s arms, like a baby safely wrapped and protected by his Alpha’s pheromones.
Only when Lin Si’s breathing finally evened out did Lu Wei sigh in relief. He wiped the sweat from his forehead and temples with the back of his hand.
Carefully, he laid Lin Si down on the bed before getting up and heading to the bathroom. He soaked a towel in warm water, wrung it out, and returned.
After wiping Lin Si’s upper body clean, he found a loose-fitting set of pajamas from his wardrobe and dressed him.
The suppressant he had prepared was left unused, but he had also brought a specialized gland repair patch. Peeling one open, he carefully pressed it over Lin Si’s gland, smoothing it gently into place with his fingertips.
After tucking Lin Si in, Lu Wei finally closed the door and left the room.
An hour later, he stepped out of the bathroom, his hair still damp, his entire body carrying a cool chill. He sat in the living room, drying his hair with a towel.
Outside the window was an unfathomable darkness. Lu Wei pressed his thumb and middle finger against his temples—whatever drunkenness he had felt earlier had completely faded, leaving behind only fragmented and chaotic memories.
The scent of Lin Si’s pheromones still lingered on him, thin and elusive, teasing his senses. Every time he caught a whiff, his nerves inexplicably tensed. He got up, switched on the kitchen light, and brewed himself a cup of coffee. Through the rising steam, his gaze drifted across the living room and down the hallway, landing on the door to Lin Si’s room.
He wasn’t sure if the goodwill he had built up over this time was enough for Lin Si to brush off what had happened tonight.
Before Lin Si woke up, he called Li Jicheng.
The other side was still awake, waiting.
“How is he?” Li Jicheng asked.
“Asleep.” Lu Wei replied. “He cried for a bit after the temporary mark, then fell asleep.”
Li Jicheng exhaled. “That’s good…”
“If he gets angry about this later, I need you to take the blame for me.” Lu Wei said.
“???”
“I can’t let our relationship deteriorate any further,” Lu Wei continued. “It would affect his treatment.”
“???”
Lu Wei shifted the conversation. “You must’ve heard that Bu Wannian stepped down.”
Li Jicheng sighed. “…Yeah, thanks for that. Now everywhere I go, people call me ‘the dean’s son.’”
“Your father is upright and the best candidate for dean.” Lu Wei spoke in a businesslike tone. “But I still hope—”
“Alright, I get it. It’s my fault. I forced you to temporarily mark him. If there’s nothing else, I’m going to sleep now.”
“Thanks.”
“You’re. So. Very. Welcome.” Li Jicheng hung up, pulled his blanket over his head, and muffled a string of curses. “The Lu family is insane! The father’s a lunatic, and the son’s a disaster!”
Thick curtains blocked out the harsh sunlight. The person on the bed nudged at the blanket with his leg, pushing a stuffed toy to the edge of the window, where it caught a sliver of golden light.
Feeling uncomfortable all over, Lin Si hugged the blanket and rolled over.
But before he could fully turn, a sharp pain at the nape of his neck jolted him awake.
“Ow!” He yelped and instinctively reached up, but instead of touching bare skin, his fingers pressed against a soft, snugly fitted gland repair patch.
His eyes snapped open.
A gland was a private place, and now something was stuck there out of nowhere—along with a dull ache…
Lin Si scrambled to sit up, eyes dropping to the striped loungewear on his body.
This wasn’t sleepwear. He would never go to bed in this.
He grabbed his sleeve, staring at it in a daze. Memories from last night were scattered, like puzzle pieces he was desperately trying to piece together—but no matter how hard he tried, he couldn’t form a complete picture.
“I wasn’t sleeping here…” Lin Si mumbled. “I should’ve been in the recording studio…”
Then Y came, and Bubble too…
He patted his forehead. No, that wasn’t right. Y and Bubble couldn’t have appeared at his home—it must’ve been a dream. He tried to recall more, and after two minutes, his eyes widened sharply.
“I am Lu Wei…”
He had heard that sentence. At the time, he hadn’t been able to respond. Then, Lu Wei had given him a temporary mark.
Teeth sinking into his gland.
Holding him.
What else…?
Lin Si couldn’t remember.
Panic surged through him. He pressed his hand over his gland, tugging at his clothes, and as realization fully set in, his nose stung with the threat of tears. He stared at the sheets in helpless disbelief.
Why had he had no awareness?
Why couldn’t he refuse Lu Wei?
Why had he only just woken up now?
Lu Wei had warned him that his heat might come soon. Why hadn’t he moved to Liao Ji’s place? Why hadn’t he remembered to ask Liao Ji to bring him inhibitors?
Self-reproach flooded his mind, one thought after another. Lin Si pressed a hand against his forehead, sitting motionless for a long time.
His phone screen lit up repeatedly, flashing with notifications and calls. He answered, his voice hoarse. “Hello.”
“It’s Li Jicheng.” Li Jicheng’s voice came through. “Just woke up?”
Lin Si let out a low “Mm.”
“Any discomfort?” Li Jicheng asked. “After the temporary mark.”
The fact that Li Jicheng knew didn’t surprise Lin Si. He shook his head. “No.”
“The bite mark from a temporary mark takes about two days to heal. Make sure you keep using the repair patches.” Li Jicheng instructed. “Also, avoid crowded places. You probably still have Lu Wei’s pheromones on you.”
Lin Si closed his eyes briefly and replied in a flat tone, “Got it.”
“Don’t sound so down. It’s just a bite from Lu Wei, not a big deal. The temporary mark will fade in a few days, and after that, you’ll have nothing to do with him again. Just think of it as a special kind of inhibitor—only the person administering it and the method were a little different.” Li Jicheng sighed. “Besides, this… isn’t exactly Lu Wei’s fault either.”
Lin Si barely listened. He gave a distracted “Mm.”
“He called me close to 2 AM last night. You were in heat at the time, and he was really anxious,” Li Jicheng said. “He asked if he should give you an inhibitor, but I told him to give you a temporary mark instead.”
Lin Si opened his eyes and asked, “When will I get better?”
“If you can develop a normal and regular heat cycle, then it won’t be a problem,” Li Jicheng replied.
Lin Si asked again, “What if I have another false heat before that?”
“Then I would still have Lu Wei temporarily mark you,” Li Jicheng advised. “Lin Si, your condition might not give you an immediate sense of being ill, but it’s not as simple as you think. Otherwise, you wouldn’t have lost consciousness after just a second false heat. You have to admit that you’re a patient. Life is long—are you really going to give it up just because of a little shame?”
Lin Si hunched over, burying his face in the blanket. After a long time, he choked out—
“But I already like someone.”
Li Jicheng froze for a moment, then stammered, “That… that’s fine, too… It’s just a temporary mark, no big deal.”
“Wait… is the person you like an Omega or an Alpha?”
“An Alpha,” Lin Si answered.
Li Jicheng was one of the few people in the world who knew Lin Si wasn’t an Alpha. And now, he had fallen for an Alpha… meaning he liked them as an Omega.
Shocked, Li Jicheng quickly came up with a suggestion. “If you fully trust that Alpha, ask if they’d be willing to live with you. Their compatibility with you might not be as high as Lu ’s, but at least if you live together and let them temporarily mark you, you’d be more comfortable with it.”
He fell silent for a moment before clicking his tongue in frustration and adding, “But… I never told you about Lu Wei s Alpha pheromones, did I? He’s a top-tier Alpha. His pheromones aren’t just strong—their purity is much higher than the average Alpha’s. You’ve lived with him for so long that I’m not sure if switching to another Alpha’s pheromones might cause complications. Unless… you bring the person you like over, and we extract their pheromones for testing before making a decision?”
Lin Si didn’t respond for a long time. He only said, “We’ll see.”
After hanging up, he noticed several messages on his phone.
Lu Wei: [Sorry about last night. It was an emergency, so I gave you a temporary mark.]
Lu Wei: [If you feel unwell, call me or Dr. Li.]
Lu Wei: [I’ll be working from home this afternoon.]
Y: [Good morning.]
Y: [I fed Bubble.]
Lin Si stared blankly at Y’s messages, pulled the blanket up to his chin, and finally, unable to hold back anymore, burst into tears.
