Chapter 55
Lin Si stood frozen, watching as 604 slowly drifted toward him.
Stopping right in front of him, 604 greeted, “Hello.”
Lin Si asked, “604? Where did you come from?”
“I am Cupid in the human world, I am the messenger of love—I am Lu Wei’s emotionless love-seeking machine,” 604 declared.
Lin Si: “…”
He felt like 604 was somewhat similar to 204, which he had seen at Le You, but 604 had two extra little pointed ears, making it much cuter. Its voice also sounded strangely familiar, though he couldn’t pinpoint exactly who it resembled.
“Are you following a programmed setup, or how do you work? How do you even know Lu Wei?” Lin Si asked.
604 responded, “I have no expertise in the computer industry. For more details, I suggest privately messaging Lu Wei.”
“…So it’s starting, huh? The whole ’emotionless love-seeking machine’ thing?” Lin Si questioned.
604 replied, “To be honest, I don’t particularly like that title. Ugh, ugh, ugh, ugh, ugh.”
Lin Si: “…”
604: “Aren’t you going inside?”
Lin Si scoffed. “Of course, I know I need to open the door! But are you coming in with me?”
“Well, what else?”
“You even say ‘what else,’ huh? You can actually say ‘what else’…” Lin Si muttered as he pushed open the door and led 604 inside. Exhausted, he collapsed onto the bed. “If I talk to you, can Lu Wei hear it?”
604 played a soothing piano melody at a lowered volume. “No, I don’t have that function, and I’m not that immoral either.”
“Could’ve fooled me…” Lin Si closed his eyes briefly, letting the music wash over him. “Are you planning to stay here the whole time?”
604: “What else?”
“…Fine. At least, compared to Bubble, I don’t have to clean up after you.”
Lin Si sat up, turned the lights to their brightest setting, and started reading his script at the desk.
The story of ‘Leaning on the Car Window’ wasn’t particularly complex; it revolved around the conflicts between the You family brothers and their mother, Li Changwan.
The You brothers lost their father at an early age, leaving their Omega mother, Li Changwan, to raise them alone.
The story was set decades ago, before Omega equality movements had begun. Li Changwan relied on an electric tricycle to help with loading and unloading goods to make a living. Despite working tirelessly, her income was insufficient to support both children’s education. As a result, she persuaded the elder brother, You Shan, to leave school and start working after middle school to help with household expenses.
You Shan worked at a familiar acquaintance’s store and later became a full-time driver as an adult. Every month, he sent most of his earnings back home to support his mother and younger brother, You Yu.
Meanwhile, You Yu led a starkly different life, growing up spoiled under Li Changwan’s care. She even insisted on personally driving him to school on her tricycle. You Shan saw all of this and silently harbored a deep, unreadable resentment.
From You Shan’s perspective, he was the abandoned, unwanted son. His mother, Li Changwan, had been forcibly bonded for life to an Alpha, which led to his birth. She had no choice but to form a family with someone she didn’t love.
After You Yu was born, Li Changwan finally started treating the Alpha better, but their happiness was short-lived—his father passed away from cancer, leaving the family in hardship.
Although You Shan resented his mother’s favoritism, he endured it for years. His younger brother’s love and dependence on him also made it difficult for him to sever ties completely.
This delicate balance shattered one March when Li Changwan demanded an extra 1,000 yuan per month from You Shan to enroll You Yu in taekwondo lessons.
At the time, You Yu was in his first year of high school and had befriended a group of delinquents, who had obvious violent tendencies. You Shan had accidentally learned from a friend that You Yu was even involved in school violence and bullying. Realizing that their mother had spoiled him too much, You Shan firmly opposed paying for taekwondo lessons.
Li Changwan berated You Shan for being uneducated, crude, and ungrateful. Years of suppressed emotions exploded—You Shan lashed out, accusing her of never seeing him as a son, only as a money-making tool.
You Yu, naturally, took their mother’s side, insisting on learning taekwondo. However, when You Shan threatened to cut off financial support, both mother and son fell silent.
For a while, You Shan had the upper hand, and Li Changwan and You Yu had to restrain themselves.
A month later, You Shan’s ex-boyfriend showed up at their home, angrily accusing Li Changwan. He claimed that You Shan had seduced his boss while working as a driver, cheated on him, and then abandoned him despite sharing hardships together.
Seizing the opportunity, Li Changwan and You Yu, who had seized onto You Shan’s past mistakes, didn’t let the chance slip by and joined in the attack.
He admitted that most of his earnings over the years had indeed come from his boss but insisted he had done nothing wrong. The argument ended in yet another bitter fallout.
You Shan then severed ties with his family. Meanwhile, You Yu spiraled downward, giving up on school entirely. He and his friend Shang Qijing skipped classes daily, ran with street thugs, and engaged in increasingly reckless behavior—including visiting brothels and even experimenting with drugs.
Eventually, one night, You Yu was street racing, when he struck and killed a pedestrian. Panicked, he fled the scene.
Desperate, Li Changwan and You Yu had no choice but to seek help from You Shan once again.
Faced with his mother’s pleas, his brother’s tearful apologies, his ex-boyfriend’s ridicule, and his boss’s dubious demands, You Shan was crushed under the weight of it all. After two sleepless nights, his mind shattered, and he made a decision—he walked into the police station and turned himself in.
Before leaving, he had one last conversation with Li Changwan, pretending he was going to take the blame for You Yu. She hesitated for a long time but ultimately did not stop him.
That was the final straw. You Shan pulled out a hidden fruit knife.
You Yu, who had been secretly eavesdropping behind the door, immediately rushed out. The two brothers fought, and in the scuffle, You Yu was stabbed and sent to the hospital.
Two days later, You Shan went to the police station and confessed to being the hit-and-run driver.
Li Changwan rushed to visit him in detention, but by then, You Shan had lost all will to live. He remained indifferent to her tears and refused the boss’s offer to help reduce his sentence. His only words were:
“In my next life, I don’t want to be your son.”
In the end, Li Changwan took You Yu to the police station to turn himself in.
The final scene of the movie shows You Yu being locked in a police car, pressing against the window as he watches his brother and mother gradually disappear from view.
Lin Si’s scene for tomorrow involved him and Shang Qijing going out drinking and partying, having fun, then committing a hit-and-run.
On his second day in the production team, they would be filming the pivotal scenes for You Yu in the later part of the movie. Lin Si had known this in advance, which was why he was desperate to stay up all night cramming.
His phone vibrated beside him. Before hanging up, he instinctively pressed the answer button and put it on speaker.
“Still awake?”
A jolt ran through Lin Si’s entire body, his heart skipping a heavy beat.
Lu Wei’s voice gave him a strange sense of disorientation, as if he had been transported back in time. He had spent the whole day immersed in the production, rehearsing and studying non-stop until his mind was completely drained. He hadn’t even had the energy to think about Lu Wei. But the moment he heard his voice, he couldn’t control the way his heart raced.
“Not asleep yet…” Lin Si ruffled his hair, as if talking to Lu Wei required fixing his appearance. He said, “I’m reading the script.”
“What time is your scene tomorrow?”
Lu Wei’s tone was much more relaxed now, and Lin Si finally felt at ease. His body was heavy with exhaustion, and he exhaled as he lay back on the bed, holding up the script and mumbling, “Tomorrow morning isn’t too bad. My first scene isn’t until nine.” He rolled onto his side and asked 604, “Can you play me something a little more intense? I’m about to fall asleep…”
“If the moon doesn’t sleep, neither do you. You two bald heads make a perfect pair.”
604 responded immediately, switching to a battle anthem fit for a warrior nation.Lin Si couldn’t help but laugh, instantly feeling more awake. He turned to Lu Wei and asked, “Did you make him?”
“Yeah.” Lu Wei’s voice carried a hint of amusement. “I made some improvements based on the previous version 204.”
“Please do not compare me to lower-tier robots,” 604 said haughtily. “I am a custom-made, premium edition for Bao bao (baby).”
Lin Si: “…”
“Can you make him stop calling me Bao Bao? It feels weird, like he’s too dumb to be calling me that.”
“Mind your words. I am a next-generation, cutting edge AI—”
“Alright, alright,” Lin Si cut him off. “Have you ever seen a Cupid so eager to be a third wheel?”
Lu Wei chuckled softly, making Lin Si pause as he clutched the script.
For that fleeting moment, Lu Wei and Y overlapped completely.
Lin Si heard that familiar, gentle laughter that belonged to Y.
“You can rehearse with 604. Just let him scan the script,” Lu Wei suggested.
The booming music filled Lin Si with adrenaline, and he blurted out, “You sound just like Y right now.”
Lu Wei fell silent for a moment.
“I am him,” Lu Wei said softly. “Baby, the one in the bubble was me, and the one in reality is also me. I treat you well because I like you. It’s not just when I become someone else that I like you.”
In Lin Si’s mind, Lu Wei had always been cold, temperamental, and indifferent toward him—because he disliked him. But in reality—
Lu Wei was like that with everyone.
Only with Lin Si did he have the patience to speak softly.
Lin Si was the only trigger.
Suddenly being confessed to, Lin Si felt his face heat up. A little embarrassed, he lowered his gaze and muttered, “I misspoke.”
“No,” Lu Wei said. “You didn’t say anything wrong.”
A long silence stretched between them. Just as Lin Si was about to find a new topic, Lu Wei spoke first.
“Do you recognize 604’s voice?”
Lin Si frowned, trying to recall, but he couldn’t quite place it. He simply turned to 604 and said, “Say something.”
“…I am a cutting-edge, next-generation AI robot!”
“Wow, you finally got your full title out.” Lin Si muttered.
604 declared, “604 is very angry right now!”
“Oh, thanks. I’m so scared,” Lin Si stretched his legs and told Lu Wei, “I can’t tell who he sounds like, but it’s really familiar.”
Lu Wei didn’t keep him guessing. He simply said, “It’s a blend of our voices—yours and mine.”
“Huh?” Lin Si was startled. “Both of us?”
“I used voice fusion technology,” Lu Wei explained.
Still processing both old and new concepts, Lin Si muttered, “I don’t really get it, but it sounds impressive…”
After putting in so much effort into making Lin Si happy, Lu Wei was left with nothing but a vague compliment. “…Mm.” (T/n: Lol poor ML 🤣 but u really deserve it😏)
Lin Si yawned. “I can’t do it anymore, I’m exhausted. Gotta shower and sleep.”
“Alright.”
“Then… goodnight?”
“Goodnight.”
Lu Wei’s voice was soft, like a lover’s whisper in his ear, lulling Lin Si into a peaceful sleep.
Since Lin Si had scenes with You Yu and Shang Qijing today, the moment he stepped out of the van, he spotted Lu Nan on set.
Lu Nan’s bright yellow hair was tied up in an ‘apple head’ ponytail, completing the ultimate trio of the classic Shamate style Flashy, Non-Mainstream, Wash-Cut-Blow (dry) look. He grinned as he slung an arm around Lin Si’s shoulder. “Been waiting for you forever.”
Lin Si chuckled. “Still half-asleep.”
“I heard yesterday was rough for you on set,” Lu Nan nudged him. “Got scolded from your first shot to your last?”
Lin Si grimaced. “My confidence got shattered into pieces and scattered into the air like confetti by Director Ye.”
“No way. Director Ye and ‘gentle’—those two things are about ten thousand miles apart.” Lu Nan patted his shoulder and followed him toward the dressing room. “His nitpicking is legendary. Just look at that film he shot last year—should’ve taken four months max, but he dragged it out to a whole year. And the moment it was released, it won an award. That’s what you call a master.”
Lin Si couldn’t help but sigh along with him. “That’s just like him.”
The makeup artist working on Lin Si today was an Alpha—quick with his hands and full of humor. After styling Lin Si to match Lu Nan’s flashy look, he suddenly hesitated. The smile on his face faded into puzzlement as he lifted his gaze to the mirror, scrutinizing Lin Si’s reflection.
“What’s wrong?” Lin Si asked.
The makeup artist debated whether to say anything, but in the end, he decided to give a reminder. “Mr. Lin, did you come into contact with an Omega before arriving on set? There’s something unusual about your scent.”
