Chapter 64
For a long time after Lin Si finished speaking, Lu Wei remained still, sitting in his chair as if entranced by him.
“…?” Lin Si leaned back a little. “Why aren’t you saying anything?”
Lu Wei’s Adam’s apple bobbed as he swallowed and said, “Fix your clothes.” (T/n: Lol😏🤣)
Lin Si arched his back and looked around himself. “What’s wrong with them?”
Lu Wei helplessly glanced at his collar and then sighed, “Forget it.” But when he realized he couldn’t stop looking, he still added, “Sit properly and pull your collar up.”
Lin Si had been wearing this pajama top for what felt like forever, yet Lu Wei had already complained about it several times. So, he grabbed the collar and asked, “Why do you keep picking on my pajamas?”
“I’m not,” Lu Wei replied. “The collar’s just crooked.”
Lin Si tugged at it, but whether he adjusted it to the left or the right, the collar remained lopsided. Losing patience, he let go. “It won’t sit straight. I’ve worn it for too long—it’s just like this now.”
“Why do you insist on wearing it?” Lu Wei tried his best to keep his gaze on Lin Si’s face.
“Because it’s comfortable, and I’ve worn it for so long that I’m attached to it,” Lin Si explained, rubbing the collar between his fingers to show him. “The quality is great—aside from being a little misshapen, everything else is perfect. It’s so soft, it feels like I’m wearing nothing at all.”
“Then why not just not wear anything?” Lu Wei replied smoothly.
Lin Si froze for a moment, then lowered his hands and, after a long pause, muttered, “You’re being a pervert.”
No one had ever been more falsely accused than Lu Wei. He laughed helplessly. “How am I being a pervert?”
“You told me not to wear anything.” Lin Si pouted.
All of Lu Wei’s exhaustion faded at the sound of Lin Si’s voice. He leaned back and looked at the screen, where Lin Si blinked at him, filling the air with the faint scent of freesia.
“I’ll come see you in a couple of days. Which film studio are you at next?” Lu Wei asked.
The moment Lin Si heard that Lu Wei was coming, he shot up. “You’re coming?”
“Mm. I’ll adjust my schedule tomorrow and come see you as soon as possible.”
Lin Si hurriedly pulled up his filming schedule, double-checking and confirming again and again. “The day after tomorrow, I’ll be back in Beicheng for a week with the crew. Are you coming then?”
“Okay,” Lu Wei agreed.
Lin Si hugged his phone and rolled halfway across his bed, his voice brimming with excitement. “Then I’ll wait for you!”
After setting their plans, Lin Si felt noticeably lighter over the next few days. Time passed quickly on set, so before he even had the chance to grow impatient, the day to return to Beicheng arrived.
Since actors left later than the main crew, production arranged for a car to take them back together. Lin Si arrived in Beicheng just after seven in the evening, dropped off his luggage, and then rushed straight to set to film a night scene.
Lin Si didn’t rush to leave. Instead, he waited by Ye Gaotan’s side, watching the playback.
“Director Ye, I finished watching the movie you recommended.” Lin Si said, “Aren’t you going to ask me about it?”
Ye Gaotan chuckled. “I wasn’t testing you—just recommending something to watch. As long as you’ve seen it, that’s enough.”
“Are you sure you don’t want to hear my thoughts?” Lin Si pressed.
“Sometimes I wonder if you’re really here to act,” Ye Gaotan sighed, pulling over a folding chair for him. “You’re practically obsessed with making me teach you, as if I don’t have other things to do.”
Feeling a little embarrassed, Lin Si lowered his head humbly and sat down. “I haven’t even gotten a scene through on the first take under you yet.”
“You dance very well,” Ye Gaotan suddenly said.
“Huh?” Lin Si blinked, then reacted. “Oh, dancing? It’s alright. I haven’t danced as much in recent years, though.”
Ye Gaotan adjusted the height of the monitor, making it easier to view, and asked, “What do you think is most important in dance?”
Lin Si rested his chin in his palm and mused, “To professionals, technique and emotion are equally important. But to outsiders, technique probably takes up eighty percent.”
“Then do you think you are You Yu?” Ye Gaotan asked.
“I don’t know,” Lin Si replied. “Sometimes I feel like he’s similar to me, and sometimes I feel like I’m similar to him. But most of the time, we’re not alike.”
Ye Gaotan shifted his legs to make way for the crew packing up cables. Though his movements were casual, his tone suddenly sharpened. “I didn’t ask if you’re like him—I asked if you are him.”
Lin Si immediately sat up straight, but after a moment, his shoulders slumped, and he shook his head. “Even though you picked me because I could portray the younger You Yu, I still feel like the person he becomes later on and I are two completely different people.”
“That last scene—when you were sitting in the prison van—what were you thinking about?” Ye Gaotan asked. “Why did you smile?”
That day was unforgettable.
The prison van scene was the final shot of the film, taken near an actual detention center. It was also the only scene where Lin Si passed in just two takes.
Before that, no one believed that Lin Si—who had been scolded by Ye Gaotan from the start of filming to the end—would pass such a crucial scene so quickly.
Lin Si scratched his head, recalling, “When the first take didn’t pass, you told me to sit in the truck and think for half an hour… I remember thinking that the truck smelled terrible—dirty and unclean. You Yu grew up pampered and never mixed with the underground world, so he wouldn’t be able to tolerate it. At first, he probably wouldn’t notice, but when he leaned against the window with his shackles on and saw his mother, he’d start to feel wronged.”
“If he felt wronged, why didn’t he cry? Why did he laugh instead?”
“Because they looked ridiculous chasing after the truck.” Lin Si said. “From my perspective inside, they were running behind, crying the whole time. I didn’t understand what they were crying for. The truck stank, and the prison I was headed to would definitely be worse. They cried like they wished they could take my place, but in the end, Mom still chose my brother—she went to the police. Since that’s the case, the one suffering in the future would be me, so why were they the ones crying?”
Lin Si paused, stepping out of You Yu’s mindset. “If I were You Yu, I would never think I was wrong, nor would I ever forgive my family.” He added, “After all, it’s easier to forgive a bad person than it is to forgive a good one.”
“Why do you say that?” Ye Gaotan asked.
Lin Si pressed his lips together and said nothing.
That scene was filmed three days after Lu Shaoming’s death.
At that time, he thought that no matter how great Lu Shaoming’s sins were, he still felt a bit wistful upon his passing. But Lu Wei had been haunted for so many years, all because of a single rejection from him back then.
Sometimes, people just tend to bully the weak and fear the strong. Since Lu Yan patiently accompanied him, he simply kept clinging to Lu Wei and dragging him along, taking advantage of his soft-heartedness towards himself.
If Li Donghao hadn’t revealed the truth, Lin Si didn’t know how much longer he would have continued bullying Lu Wei.
“You’re a smart kid.” Ye Gaotan patted his head. “Go get some rest. Next time you have questions, just ask directly—don’t wait around until I’m done for the day.”
Lin Si grinned as he stood up. “Thanks, Director Ye.”
After chatting a bit more, he wrapped a sweater around himself and headed back to his van.
Liao Ji was completely focused on something and only shifted his legs slightly when Lin Si climbed in.
“What’s so interesting?” Lin Si asked.
“I got a few scripts today,” Liao Ji said. “And some variety show invitations. I’m checking them out.”
Lin Si leaned over. “Which one caught your eye? You look really serious.”
“None of the scripts, honestly. They’re too different from what you’re filming now. Landing Director Ye’s film was already a huge step up—it wouldn’t make sense to go straight back down afterward.”
“So you found a variety show instead?” Lin Si asked.
Liao Ji pointed at the screen. “This one’s a mix of travel and food. I think it’s a good fit. A few big-name actors have already signed on—both veteran and younger stars—so they’re just looking for some newer faces. You’d be perfect. Plus, you’re a great cook—it’d be easy for you to win over fans.”
“I thought we agreed to focus on serious acting?” Lin Si gulped down his milk, then exhaled. “If my fans ever find out I’m not an Alpha, they’ll be heartbroken. Every time I see them defending me online, I feel so guilty. And when I meet them in person, I don’t even dare to talk to them—I feel like a fraud.”
“Lu Shaoming is dead. No one’s forcing you to be an Alpha anymore… But some paths, once you take them, there’s no turning back.” Liao Ji sighed. “No one wants to live a life of hiding.”
Lin Si sighed along with him and asked, “So, do I still have to join this variety show?”
“You need time to detach from your role after finishing this film. A variety show is perfect for that. It only films two days a week, and the rest of the time, you can stay home and pick new scripts.”
“At home?” Lin Si’s eyes lit up. “Yeah, home sounds great!”
If he was at home, he could see Lu Wei every day!
Liao Ji sighed. “…Alright, but don’t forget you’ve got the ‘Missing You, 66’ promo tour coming up.”
Lin Si was still buzzing with excitement, fidgeting with his hands. “Oh, right! Lu Wei is coming to see me tomorrow night, and I don’t have any scenes scheduled!”
Liao Ji shrank back in horror. “He’s coming? No way, what if someone sees him? There are so many actors staying at this hotel—bumping into even one of them would be a disaster!”
“He’s meeting with Director Ye. He’s coming openly. He even booked a room next to mine, so he can drop by,” Lin Si explained.
“You two sure are bold, using Ye Gaotan as an excuse just to meet.” Liao Ji shook his head.
“He really does have business here—it’s just that he could’ve handled it over the phone but decided to do it in person instead.” Lin Si smirked. “Tomorrow night, I’m spending time with him, so don’t come looking for me.”
Liao Ji groaned. “Did you even listen to a word I said last time? Do you not get what kind of status he has now? He’s insanely rich and more famous than you can imagine! He stands out way more than a small celebrity like you!”
“So what? It’s not like I need his money.” Lin Si shrugged. “I can write songs—I won’t go hungry. Since neither of us is lacking in money, why wouldn’t we be equals?”
Liao Ji: “…”
“Am I wrong?” Lin Si tilted his head. “Besides, I sleep with him, and he sleeps with me. Neither of us is taking advantage of the other.”
The moment he finished speaking, Liao Ji smacked a script over his mouth. “Can you be a little more proper? Don’t act like those careless people!”
“So if I like him and sleep with him, that’s being careless?” Lin Si asked.
Liao Ji sighed. “I’m not saying it’s wrong, but it’s not the right time. You should take your time getting to know each other.”
Lin Si thought for a moment and nodded. “That’s true. I’ve got sins to atone for—I need to win Lu Wei over first.” He knew Liao Ji was about to scold him, so he quickly covered his mouth. “I promise! But I’m still going to chase him.”
“Chase?!” Liao Ji’s muffled voice came from behind Lin Si’s hand. “If this isn’t already ‘being together,’ then what is?!”
Lin Si let go. “We never made it official. I want to give Lu Wei a proper title.”
With this determination in mind, Lin Si hid around set, clutching his phone and searching for ideas for a long time.
Here’s what he found:
Q: What’s the most romantic way to confess?
A: Just spend money. That’s always romantic.
Q: How do you confess to an Alpha?
A: Just take off your pants and lie down.
Q: What do Alphas like?
**A: Your *. (T/n:😏😏😏)
Q: How do you confess romantically without taking off your pants or spending money?
A: Bro, do you have too many friends??? (T/n: 🤣😏🤣)
Lin Si: …It felt like he hadn’t learned anything useful. QAQ
So when Lu Wei came knocking on his door, all Lin Si had prepared was a flower.
A small white freesia in a pot, borrowed from the props department.
