Chapter 11: It Seems Your Compatibility with Enigma Is Quite High

Ruan Yan stared blankly at Wen Jingyi.

He had only occasionally chatted with the senior who studied the fourth gender and wasn’t very familiar with the details regarding Enigma.

Dr. Wen, on the other hand, seemed to know a lot. But right now, Ruan Yan had no energy to think about anything else.

“Will I… eventually fall into a real estrus phase?” Ruan Yan’s voice trembled slightly as he asked.

For an Omega, estrus was nothing short of a nightmare. He had witnessed his father enduring it, relying on suppressants just to get through.

The agony, the overwhelming desire, the loss of dignity—begging for his Alpha’s mark.

He had once considered helping his father remove his bond mark, but as long as Ruan Hong was alive, he never had the chance.

“If you continue to be affected by that Enigma’s pheromones, then yes, you will! And…” Dr. Wen hesitated for a moment before continuing, “Your compatibility with this Enigma appears to be quite high. If you want an exact percentage, I suggest coming to the hospital for a full examination.”

Everything Dr. Wen had just said was information impossible to find elsewhere, but Ruan Yan no longer had the mental capacity to process it.

He left the office in a daze, completely forgetting to even say thank you.

Wen Jingyi watched Ruan Yan’s slightly desolate figure as he left. Leaning back against his chair, he muttered a curse under his breath.

“Fuck Enigma.”

A knock on the door interrupted his thoughts.

“Come in,” Wen Jingyi said, his expression returning to its usual calm, distant professionalism as he glanced down at Ruan Yan’s test results.

A female nurse peeked her head inside, hesitantly stepping in. One arm cradled a large bouquet of fresh flowers, while the other carried a cake.

“Dr. Wen, um… your admirer sent flowers again. And a cake this time.”

It was common knowledge throughout the hospital—Dr. Wen had a persistent admirer who sent gifts every day without fail, never repeating the same thing twice. Yet, no one had ever seen the mysterious pursuer in person.

Wen Jingyi frowned slightly, not even bothering to look up. “You all can take it.”

“Got it!” The nurse responded cheerfully, ready to distribute the gifts among her colleagues.

But just as she turned to leave, Wen Jingyi caught a faint scent—one that was strangely familiar. His head snapped up.

“Wait.”

The nurse paused, hand still on the door. “Something wrong, Dr. Wen?”

“Leave the flowers,” Wen Jingyi said, his brows furrowing slightly. There was a rare trace of hesitation in his usually indifferent tone.

“Oh… okay.” The nurse, still puzzled, left the flowers behind before exiting.

Wen Jingyi’s gaze settled on the bouquet.

Jasmine.

The scent of his pheromones.

That person knew—knew that he disliked all flowers given to him, except the ones that carried the fragrance of his own pheromones.

….

After visiting the hospital, Ruan Yan came up with every possible excuse to avoid seeing Xiao Jin.

Fortunately, Xiao Jin was busy. Without any particular need, he wouldn’t actively seek him out. In the span of two months, they had only met three times.

But each of those three times had nearly pushed Ruan Yan to his limits.

Each time, it lasted longer. Each time, it happened more frequently.

At one point, when emotions ran high, Xiao Jin had tried to bite him.

Ruan Yan’s reaction had been immediate—violent, even. His resistance was so strong that Xiao Jin, caught off guard, actually stopped.

Although clearly displeased by the rejection, in the end, he hadn’t gone through with it.

Ruan Yan didn’t know what Xiao Jin was involved in, but whatever it was—it was dangerous.

Thus, whenever Xiao Jin called Ruan Yan to the villa, he would also have him bandage his wounds—after all, Ruan Yan was a student at A University’s medical school.

Ruan Yan could tell that the injury was caused by a bullet.

The Federation had strict laws prohibiting the unauthorized use of firearms. Only individuals in the federal military or government were permitted to carry guns.

In his apartment near the university, Ruan Yan finished washing up and walked to his desk. He took out a small bottle of sleeping pills, poured one into his palm, and swallowed it.

As a medical student, he understood his own body’s changes.

As long as he was away from Xiao Jin, he would inexplicably crave his pheromones—so much that he couldn’t sleep, so much that the unbearable longing would push him to seek him out.

Since leaving Dr. Wen’s office, Ruan Yan had spent half a month researching everything he could about Enigma. He had even consulted the senior who had studied the subject.

The more he learned, the more despair he felt.

The Enigma gender reigned supreme. Even without a glandular mark, they could make anyone submit. Their physiological dominance made them absolute rulers over even the highest-ranking Alphas. Resistance would only lead to complete destruction.

At first, he had agreed to the “lover’s contract” just to stay alive.

But now… if Xiao Jin ever found out that he was an Enigma and, on a whim, decided to forcibly mark him—

Ruan Yan closed his eyes.

The image of his father, tormented by heat, kneeling before Ruan Hong, crying and begging for just a trace of pheromones, replayed in his mind over and over, relentlessly tearing at his nerves.

Ruan Yan sat in front of his computer, his long, slender fingers tapping open the stock market trading software.

Today marked the closing day for one of the stocks he had invested in. After making a few final adjustments and deducting transaction fees and taxes, he glanced at the credited amount—16 million.

It met his expectations.

When he had told Xiao Jin that he could help him make money, he wasn’t just boasting. He knew how to trade stocks and had already made a substantial profit on his own. At the very least, once his father was free from Ruan Hong, he would have enough wealth to live the rest of his life without worry.

But Xiao Jin didn’t lack money.

Ruan Yan pondered what bargaining chip he could use to terminate his lover’s contract with Xiao Jin.

A small black dot suddenly flickered in the bottom right corner of the screen. Ruan Yan clicked on it, and a chat window popped up.

A message appeared in the dialog box:
“Address: Southeast District, Zone 10, abandoned factory.
Information retrieval fee: 5 million.
Account: 7900xxxxxxxxxxxx.”

Ruan Yan stared at the message for a moment before picking up his phone and making the transfer.

The other party responded almost immediately:
“Deal. Pleasure doing business.”

Not long after, Ruan Yan’s phone rang.

When he answered, a brash voice came through. “Tomorrow night at eight, Wuse Bar. You just made a fortune—buy me a drink.”

Ruan Yan was speechless. The guy could have just called to tell him the address directly, but he insisted on going through the whole process.

Ruan Yan refused outright. “Not drinking. I have things to do.”

Zhou Shiyu’s voice came through the receiver. “What things? Don’t tell me you’re planning to head over right after I got you the intel? You think that scumbag father of yours wouldn’t be on guard? Ruan Hong is still the head of the Ruan family. How do you think he secured his spot as one of the Federation’s top ten richest men without some serious tricks up his sleeve?”
