Chapter 17
The day of the ceremony quickly arrived.
Qin Zhe and Bai Huai returned with gifts, and Qin Hong had come a day earlier to help entertain the guests. From the moment the sun had not yet risen, the entire Qin family residence was busy preparing. After a hurried breakfast, Qin Fei, under Lin Zishu’s orders, changed into his ceremonial attire. Qin Fei didn’t know what material the outfit was made of, but it felt incredibly smooth and delicate to the touch. The cuffs and collar were embroidered with the white Jiu flowers, symbolizing a happy marriage, while the rest of the garment was adorned with zerg patterns. At first glance, it seemed like a golden, complete zerg pattern, but upon closer inspection, the entire fabric was composed of subtle, dark green, light green, and deep purple zerg patterns. Every color, when closely observed, revealed a complete zerg design. Qin Fei couldn’t help but marvel. This was not just a ceremonial outfit, it was a precious work of art.

Once Qin Fei wore the garment, his naturally tall and handsome appearance was further enhanced, adding more elegance and presence. Lin Zishu, who already thought highly of his young one, was even prouder now. His heart swelled with pride. If it weren’t for Qin Fei’s marriage being arranged so early, he probably wouldn’t have had any trouble finding a royal female zerg to be his “daughter-in-law”!
Looking at himself in the mirror, Qin Fei was taken aback. His dark green hair was tied at the back, revealing his smooth forehead. His two sword-like eyebrows were straight, adding a touch of boldness to his face. His facial features were sharp, and his pitch-black eyes held an air of mystery. Qin Fei thought to himself that he was more handsome than the [2]Wei Jie (衛玠) was a scholar and official of the Western Jin dynasty (266–316) in ancient China. He couldn’t help but feel a little proud. He then began to look forward to how Xi Yuan would look in his own attire. Qin Fei considered himself handsome, with a more neutral appearance in his own eyes, while Xi Yuan had a more feminine look. If he didn’t focus on his face, Xi Yuan satisfied Qin Fei’s ideal of a strong, masculine figure, but once he saw his face, that impression weakened slightly. Without videos, Qin Fei always found it hard to imagine Xi Yuan’s appearance on the battlefield, killing enemies with such strength.
After everything was arranged, Qin Fei stood at the entrance, smiling and accepting congratulations with Qin Lang. He smiled all morning, especially when familiar guests arrived and engaged in a bit of small talk. The smile on his face never wavered, even when it began to feel like his face would freeze from the constant smiling. By noon, most of the guests had arrived. Qin Fei followed his father and mother to the viewing platform. Gentle music played, and Qin Fei looked in the direction it came from. Xi Yuan stood there in white robes, with dark green embroidered branches and leaves, making him appear even more striking. Behind him were his cousin Li He and his good friend Wei Ziguo, both graceful individuals. The three of them stood at the other end of the red carpet, looking incredibly pleasing to the eye. Of course, the most pleasing sight to Qin Fei was the one standing at the very front.
Qin Fei’s gaze was fixed only on the person at the front, his eyes following him intently. To others, it seemed as though Qin Fei and Xi Yuan’s gazes were intertwined, full of affection and smiles, like a pair of beautiful people in love. Indeed, the bond between the male zerg and his female was strong!
Qin Fei slowly took step after step towards Xi Yuan. Xi Yuan, along with his two “best men,” also began to walk toward the viewing platform. When they reached the center, the two “best men” stopped, and Qin Fei moved forward to take Xi Yuan’s hand. At that moment, pink petals floated down from the sky, and occasionally small “fortune bags” dropped, prompting guests to eagerly reach out and try to catch one.
In zerg customs, during a wedding ceremony, these fortune bags would fall. If someone caught one, it was said to bring happiness in marriage. If an unmarried zerg caught one, it would bring good fortune in romantic relationships. The fortune bags were highly sought after at every wedding.
Qin Fei didn’t know why, but as he held Xi Yuan’s hand and walked toward the platform, his heartbeat became erratic. Today was his wedding day, his wedding with Xi Yuan. From this moment on, he would have his own little home, no longer alone.
Qin Fei didn’t know why, but he tightly grasped Xi Yuan’s hand, walking step by step toward the viewing platform. From this day onward, the only person who could rightfully stand by Qin Fei’s side was him, the only one who could stay by his side forever—only him! Finally, they reached the platform, and Qin Lang, surrounded by a circle of male zergs, began singing a blessing song in the ancient zerg language. Qin Fei only half-understood the words, but that didn’t stop him from feeling the emotions conveyed through the song.
In front of Qin Fei and Xi Yuan were two small bowls. Xi Yuan pricked his middle finger, letting a few drops of blood fall into the milk-white liquid in one of the bowls. Qin Fei did the same. After that, the two bowls were switched, and they both drank from them. Then, under the watchful eyes of the crowd, Qin Fei kissed Xi Yuan, who had his head slightly lowered. After the kiss, the wedding ceremony was over, and the crowd, which included many unmarried female zergs, eagerly gathered to escort the newlyweds to their new home. Every zerg hoped to shake hands with the couple for a bit of good luck.
Qin Fei tightly held Xi Yuan’s hand with one of his own, while his other hand shook countless hands of the zergs who approached. Each time someone introduced themselves, at first, Qin Fei could remember a few of the names. But soon, he could only keep a stiff smile on his face, watching as each zerg was pushed aside by the next, before they could even finish introducing themselves. The cycle repeated itself. Fortunately, the distance to the new home wasn’t far. Qin Fei was immensely relieved.
Once they entered the new home, Qin Fei activated the protective settings, ensuring that only those with pre-set permissions could enter. He also used the remote control to set the transparent “barrier” so that no one outside could see through the mirror-like surface of the room. Finally, Qin Fei breathed a sigh of relief, rubbing his face, which had been smiling since the morning.
Now, there was no longer any need for the newlyweds to make an appearance at the ceremony. Everything was left in the hands of his father and the others. Qin Fei had originally planned to check on his “uncle,” but it seemed he hadn’t seen him. Qin Fei wasn’t sure why. Lin Zishu had been standing by the door with his eldest son, and when he saw Qin Fei arrive, he welcomed him inside. However, seeing his little brother’s demeanor, Lin Zishu was afraid that the gloomy expression on his face would explode and cause embarrassment. So, he had Qin Hong watch over him throughout the ceremony, just in case he said or did something inappropriate. This “uncle,” who was supposed to be so close in blood, had only been seen by Qin Fei during the ceremony. He had been in a crowd and only muttered a congratulations, but his face was so cold and distant that even Qin Hong couldn’t hear him clearly. No wonder Qin Fei had no impression of him.
As soon as the “barrier” was activated, the noise from outside immediately disappeared. With Xi Yuan standing beside him and the background of a vibrant, flower-filled garden, Qin Fei felt as though he might be a little tipsy—otherwise, why would his face feel warm and slightly dizzy? At this point, he had completely forgotten that, during the ceremony, newlyweds were not allowed to consume alcohol.
Outside, Lin Zishu watched as the two entered the bridal room. Then, a large, inverted bowl-shaped mirror appeared, reflecting the surrounding scenery. Lin Zishu nodded, and a group of strikingly beautiful concubines entered, carrying plates and dishes—lunchtime had arrived.
After the lunch was finished, the ceremony also came to a close. However, the Qin family zergs couldn’t rest just yet. Qin Lang quickly drank a nutrient liquid before continuing to socialize with the guests at each seat. These guests were part of the Qin family’s network, and in the future, if the Qin family had descendants holding ceremonies, they would return the favor. As Qin Fei grew older, such tasks would eventually fall to him, and he could finally take a break from running around.
