Chapter 29: Wedding Night – Worry-Free Grass
The story begins with the protagonist arriving at her second uncle’s house, where she sees a man who appears even more handsome today.
Upon hearing the promise made by Jia Qingshan to Li Wen, Li Mei becomes consumed with jealousy. She wonders why other men can make such unequal promises for their wives, while her own husband wants to divorce her.
The more she thinks about it, the more painful and jealous she becomes. Before her emotions take over, Li Mei decides to leave, fearing that she might do something she would regret.
After a long time, Li Guo’er hears teasing voices from outside and feels a large, warm hand grasp hers.
After bidding farewell to her parents and relatives, she sits in the bridal sedan chair and begins her journey towards the east side of the village, towards the half-mountain.
Through the veil of the sedan chair, she can vaguely make out the scenes outside.
The journey to the half-mountain is bumpy, and Li Guo’er feels the chair tilt violently. Her head accidentally hits the sedan, making a soft sound of pain.
Hearing this, Jia Qingshan quickly moves closer to the window of the sedan and asks, “Guo’er, are you alright?”
“I’m fine, I just bumped my head a little.”
“Ah, then sit steady. The mountain path is difficult.”
“Okay.”
After what seems like an eternity, just when Li Guo’er is about to fall asleep, a woman’s voice calls out from outside, “Bride, please get out of the sedan.”
This wakes Li Guo’er from her daze, realizing that they have arrived at Jia Qingshan’s home.
Jia Qingshan lifts the veil of the sedan and takes Li Guo’er’s hand, leading her toward the thatched cottage.
They step over a brazier and offer respects to Jia Qingshan’s parents’ memorial tablets before entering the bridal chamber.
Li Guo’er sits at the bedside, feeling the softness of the bed, wondering how many blankets the man must have laid.
A person enters from outside, walking up to her and handing her something. “Bride, eat a little cake to tide you over.”
Having been woken up early to wash and get dressed, Li Guo’er is indeed very hungry.
She takes small bites, and as she eats, she feels sleepy. Like anyone who has eaten their fill, she soon dozes off against the bedpost.
After sending off the guests, Jia Qingshan hurries back to the room and finds the lovely young woman already asleep.
Looking at his sleeping wife, Jia Qingshan’s heart races. He has finally married the woman he has longed for.
Li Guo’er wakes up hours later, during the afternoon, still being called by Jia Qingshan.
He tells her that once the veil is lifted and the ceremonial wine is drunk, she can go back to sleep.
At the moment the veil is lifted, Jia Qingshan becomes mesmerized by his wife’s face.
He knew she was beautiful, but he hadn’t expected her to be even more breathtaking after her makeup. She was stunning, in a way that took his breath away.
Similarly, Li Guo’er was also sizing up Jia Qingshan, who was dressed in a red wedding gown.
She had to admit in her heart that this man was indeed very handsome, no wonder Li Mei couldn’t forget him.
Li Guo’er quickly withdrew her gaze and said to the man, who hadn’t yet recovered from his shock,
“I’m hungry. Is there anything to eat at home?”
Hearing his little wife, Jia Qingshan snapped out of his daze and stammered,
“Yes… I… I’ll go get it for you.”
Jia Qingshan hurried out of the room and, after pausing for a moment to calm himself, walked toward the kitchen.
Looking at his little wife’s mouth moving, Jia Qingshan felt his throat dry, and his body began to heat up.
As a grown man, he knew what that meant.
After the wedding toast, Jia Qingshan could no longer hold back his desires as he looked at his little wife.
“Wife, let’s rest early,” he said, unable to ignore the intense gaze he was receiving.
Li Guo’er blushed, nodded, and replied, “Okay.”
She stood up and walked to the vanity, sitting in front of the mirror and preparing to remove the silver hairpin from her hair.
Seeing the graceful figure of his little wife, Jia Qingshan felt something burning inside him, making him unbearably hot.
He walked behind Li Guo’er and gently took the hairpin from her, her black hair cascading down like a waterfall toward the ground.
Touching the smooth, long hair in his hand, Jia Qingshan’s breath quickened, and he moved forward, lifting the delicate woman into his arms and walking toward the bed.
Feeling the rapid beating of the man’s heart beneath his firm chest, Li Guo’er tightened her hold around his neck.
Squatting down, Jia Qingshan removed her embroidered shoes, and with a tug, the red curtains fell. His own shoes were also discarded onto the floor.
Looking at the blushing woman on the bed, Jia Qingshan whispered,
“Wife, I’ve finally married you.”
As he spoke, his hands reached out, and his clothes began to slip away, followed by his kiss.
Li Guo’er was a little dazed from the kiss, and with a faint trace of clarity, she softly said,
“Then… be gentle…” She buried her face into the blanket.
Seeing his little wife’s shy expression, the man nodded gently and said,
“Don’t be nervous, wife, I’ll be gentle…”
Li Guo’er was eventually exhausted to the point of fainting. After helping his little wife clean up, Jia Qingshan finally, with a satisfied expression, held her in his arms and fell asleep.
When she woke up again, she saw the man beside her looking at her with a gentle expression.
When Jia Qingshan noticed his little wife had woken up, he softly asked,
“You must be hungry, right? I’ll get up and make breakfast.”
Just as he was about to get out of bed, a wave of soreness hit Li Guo’er, and she let out a soft sound before collapsing into Jia Qingshan’s arms.
Looking at the soft and fragrant woman in his embrace, Jia Qingshan couldn’t help but tense up, feeling certain parts of his body react.
Li Guo’er, still in his arms, also felt Jia Qingshan’s reaction. Having experienced intimacy the night before, she understood what was happening, and her face immediately flushed with embarrassment.
Jia Qingshan made a conscious effort to control himself. Right now, all he wanted was to pin his little wife down and take care of his impulse, but he resisted it, dressed, and ran toward the small creek at the back of the mountain.
Watching the man rush out of the room, pushing past her in his hurry, Li Guo’er found it both amusing and endearing.
What she found amusing was the awkward expression on his face, and what made her feel grateful was his thoughtfulness.
After enduring the pain of dressing, she got out of bed and surveyed the new room, which had already been lived in for a night.
She noticed that everything in the room was neatly arranged, and all the daily necessities had been newly purchased.
Especially the sandalwood vanity, which was clearly expensive.
Thinking about how that man had spent so recklessly, she couldn’t help but feel a little angry. After tidying up the bed, she stepped outside into the courtyard.
The three thatched cottages had been renovated and looked brand new. The sturdy fence around the yard was covered in gourd vines, with gourds of all sizes hanging on them.
On the east and west sides of the yard, there were two bamboo sheds on each side.
In the two bamboo sheds on the east side, one housed neatly chopped firewood, while the other had hunting tools hanging on the walls.
The two bamboo sheds on the west side were used for the kitchen and the bathhouse.
Seeing the new bath tub inside the bamboo shed, Li Guo’er couldn’t help but admire this man’s care and thoughtfulness.
Although the courtyard was small, it was well-organized, with a variety of vegetables like eggplants, peppers, cucumbers, radishes, and pumpkins.
Behind the house, the animal pen housed two female wild chickens and a small wild boar.
