Lu Yan tiptoed back to his room, moving so quietly that even the sound of the door closing was barely audible. Only after he was back inside did he finally relax.
This whole morning was way too embarrassing. Even with Lu Yan’s thick skin, running around stark naked in front of his crush was enough to make anyone’s face burn red.
Originally, he wanted to ask Wei Yuhe why he was sleeping in his room. But after what happened, Lu Yan was at a loss for words.
Moreover, Wei Yuhe looked just as startled as he was. Still, he had to ask. He couldn’t let such a golden opportunity slip by.
“Stop thinking about it, stop thinking about it.” Lu Yan slapped his cheeks, trying to calm himself down. So what if he got seen naked?
Wait. Lu Yan suddenly froze. Speaking of getting seen, he was already naked, wrapped only in a single bath towel when he went to bed.
And judging by the way the towel was wrapped, it definitely wasn’t him who did it. That only left one possibility—Wei Yuhe?
So, what on earth happened last night?
Lu Yan tried to piece it together. He remembered going into the bathroom to shower—his clothes were still lying there. But then what? How did he end up in a towel outside the bathroom? It had to be Wei Yuhe who wrapped him up, right? Given how drunk he was, there was no way he could’ve made it out of the bathroom on his own. So, it must’ve been Wei Yuhe who carried him out.
Excited, Lu Yan jumped off the bed, and the towel that had been draped over his shoulders fell onto the bed.
Although he didn’t get to see Wei Yuhe drunk last night, which was a bit disappointing, their close contact made up for all those little regrets. He rolled around on the bed a few times, feeling so thrilled that the bed sheets, already messy, became even more disheveled.
When the covers finally fell aside, he noticed his phone lying there. He hadn’t seen it when he first woke up; it must’ve been buried under the blankets.
He pressed the lock button, but the screen didn’t light up. He searched for the charger while trying to power it on.
Before he even found the charger, the phone screen finally lit up. With 70% battery remaining, Lu Yan couldn’t quite figure out how it had shut off. Had he accidentally powered it down while drunk?
As soon as he turned it on, dozens of missed calls popped up on the screen, startling him into thinking something was wrong with his phone. Upon closer inspection, he realized they were all from Liang Mu.
Before he could even return the call, Liang Mu’s call came through again.
Lu Yan wondered if he’d installed some kind of tracker on his phone.
The moment he picked up, before he could say anything, he heard Liang Mu’s slightly hoarse voice on the other end. “Lu Yan?”
“What’s up?” Lu Yan asked in confusion. “Why did you call me so many times?”
Instead of answering, Liang Mu asked, “Where are you now?”
Feeling a bit guilty, Lu Yan glanced around. “Sleeping.”
Liang Mu was silent for two seconds, then asked, “Where are you, exactly?”
“What’s the matter?” Lu Yan mumbled. “I’m in the dorm.”
“Dorm?” Liang Mu chuckled. “I’m in the dorm right now.”
Lu Yan: “…”
“What are you doing back so suddenly?” he tried to brush it off with a laugh.
“I’ll ask you one more time: where are you?” Liang Mu’s voice sounded noticeably irritated.
“At Wei Yuhe’s place,” Lu Yan replied in a low voice.
On the other end of the call, Liang Mu took a deep breath, as if trying to suppress his anger, then asked in a voice that was still relatively calm, “What did you promise me before?”
Lu Yan hastily explained, “I didn’t do anything. I’m just staying over.”
“You guys together now?” Liang Mu asked abruptly.
“No.” Lu Yan’s answer was quick.
Silence fell again on the other end of the line. Lu Yan didn’t speak either. After a moment, Liang Mu’s voice returned, “Come back to campus right now.”
Lu Yan: “Huh?”
“Can I come back after lunch?” Lu Yan asked, hoping to have a meal with Wei Yuhe.
Liang Mu’s indifferent tone came through the phone, sounding emotionless, but Lu Yan could tell he was furious.
“You don’t mind if I tell Uncle Lu about your new boyfriend, right?”
“No!” Lu Yan relented, “I’ll head back right now.”
After hanging up, Lu Yan resigned himself to getting dressed, though he still wore the clothes that Wei Yuhe had lent him. He decided to leave the outfit he’d come in here so he’d have an excuse to come back later.
As Lu Yan went downstairs, he found Wei Yuhe busy in the kitchen, doing something he couldn’t quite make out. It wasn’t until he got closer that Wei Yuhe noticed him.
“Breakfast,” Wei Yuhe said, glancing at Lu Yan.
Lu Yan had planned to tell him he was leaving, but seeing Wei Yuhe in a rare good mood, even calling him to eat, he couldn’t bring himself to say anything. He eagerly followed behind him.
“You made this?” Lu Yan looked at the neatly arranged steamed buns on the table with surprise. So, Wei Yuhe could cook too?
Wei Yuhe gave him a look, and although he didn’t seem annoyed, he replied with a serious expression, “Takeout.”
“Oh, takeout.” Lu Yan took a bite of a warm bun and smiled. “The food you pick is the best.”
After a while, Wei Yuhe added, “The congee… I just made it.”
“Huh?” Lu Yan clearly heard what he said, but he felt like he might’ve misheard.
Was Wei Yuhe trying to explain or take credit for cooking the congee himself, rather than just ordering everything?
Wei Yuhe gave him a glance and said coldly, “Eat.”
“I’m just surprised,” Lu Yan clarified.
“Surprised by what?” Wei Yuhe asked.
“Surprised that you’d tell me this,” Lu Yan muttered.
Setting down his chopsticks, Wei Yuhe looked at Lu Yan and, after a while, asked, “You don’t remember anything from last night?”
Lu Yan instinctively wanted to deny it, to say he remembered, but when he thought about last night, his mind was a blank. Even if he wanted to lie, he wouldn’t know where to start.
“I don’t remember. What happened last night?” Lu Yan asked.
Watching him, Wei Yuhe’s previously calm expression started to turn cold, making Lu Yan feel uneasy.
“What’s wrong?” Lu Yan couldn’t understand why he felt guilty. Had he really done something terrible last night? His mind didn’t remember it, but maybe his body did?
With no answer from Wei Yuhe, Lu Yan’s sense of guilt only grew.
“You…” Just as Wei Yuhe opened his mouth to speak, Lu Yan’s phone rang.
“Hold on a second,” Lu Yan said, picking up the call.
Liang Mu’s voice came through, “Where are you?”
Glancing at Wei Yuhe, Lu Yan hesitated, trying to think of an answer, but before he could, Wei Yuhe stood up and walked away. Only then did Lu Yan say, “I’m on my way.”
“There’s some holiday traffic,” he added.
Liang Mu didn’t push him any further, only saying, “Alright.”
After that, he hung up.
Lu Yan went upstairs to find Wei Yuhe, wanting to tell him he was heading back to campus. The door to Wei Yuhe’s room was open, so he walked in directly.
No one was in the room, but there were sounds coming from the bathroom. Lu Yan walked toward it.
There, he saw Wei Yuhe standing by the bathtub, holding the clothes Lu Yan had changed out of last night in his left hand, and in his right… he was holding his underwear.
Lu Yan had entered so quietly that Wei Yuhe only noticed him when he turned around and saw him standing by the door.
Neither of them spoke, but both of their ears turned red. Lu Yan was blushing because seeing his own underwear in someone else’s hands was beyond embarrassing, while Wei Yuhe’s mind was suddenly flooded with images he couldn’t shake.
“I came up to tell you I’m heading back to campus,” Lu Yan said, trying to break the awkwardness as he quickly composed himself.
Hearing this, Wei Yuhe frowned. He wasn’t going to be naive enough to ask why Lu Yan was suddenly going back to campus; he could already guess, thanks to the phone call Lu Yan had just taken.
Seeing Wei Yuhe’s silence and slightly displeased expression, Lu Yan quickly added, “My friend came back to campus. I’m going to see him.”
“Liang Mu?” Wei Yuhe suddenly asked.
Lu Yan froze for a moment. How did Wei Yuhe know about Liang Mu? And that he was going back to meet him?
“How do you know?”
Instead of answering, Wei Yuhe brushed past him and left the bathroom.
Lu Yan stood there, dazed for a while. He had planned to chase after him and ask, but just then, loud music erupted in his ears.
Startled, he found himself unable to think of anything else. The brightly lit bedroom transformed into a dimly lit space around him.
Groggily, Lu Yan opened his eyes, taking in his surroundings in confusion, still feeling a bit dazed.
