Chapter 39: Confession
Over the past two days, the Crown Prince had visited the West Ping Marquis’ residence repeatedly, treating Madam Xia and her son with great respect. The entire household was abuzz with the news, and no one dared to underestimate the mother and son pair who had just returned home.
Permitting, even Xia Qingfeng, was also visibly displeased at the situation, and this morning, he ordered someone to visit the small courtyard in the Western District to threaten Wu Yi by cutting off another finger. However, the person who went to arrange for the guards returned with a report that all the arranged guards had been killed, and the young boy was nowhere to be found. This incident was also very displeasing to the Third Prince. Now, Xiaoming was at a loss, with nothing on his mind except this affair.
As they rode in the carriage, Ling Xiaoyu explained the situation to Xia Qingfeng. Xia Qingfeng thought for a moment before saying, “It’s not safe at the medical house; it’s likely that there are many people there, and news could spread quickly, making it difficult to keep our secret safe, not to mention going after Wu Yi again. Let’s try this, Big General has a courtyard in the South District that no one knows about. Send him there, and we’ll arrange some people to protect him. That should be okay.”
Accordingly, they sent someone to transfer the patient from the medical house to the South District courtyard.
As they traveled, Xia Qingfeng quickly checked the patient, focusing on the infected wound and the high fever. After giving him a quick dose of antipyretic medication on the carriage, the patient’s temperature began to drop by the time they arrived at the courtyard.
Once they arrived at the courtyard, Xia Qingfeng began by cleaning the wound, removing dead tissue and pus, and then stitching and bandaging it. She also administered a tetanus shot and gave the patient IV fluids.
After completing all the treatments, Xia Qingfeng carefully looked over the patient, estimating the boy to be around 14 or 15 years old, with a slender build and a frail body. He had been in a coma-like state the entire time, and Xia Qingfeng couldn’t help but pity the young boy.
Meanwhile, back in the dungeon, Wu Yi had also confessed everything he knew. They had a total of four teams, each stationed in the Eastern District, and Wu Yi was the leader of one team. Their master was a nobleman by the surname Chu, whom they would rarely see. Wu Yi only saw him occasionally as the leader of the team.
The ambush on Big General was their idea, but Big General’s martial skills were so exceptional, and the subordinates had fought to the death, so they were able to escape. After that, Wu Yi was unsure about the subsequent events.
Finally, Wu Yi speculated that Chu was likely following orders and that there might be other teams elsewhere, since he had overheard Chu say, “Our master… is better than us.”
