Chapter 16

The spotlight hit Lu Sen’s nose, shattering in front of him. Immediately, a series of screams echoed through the mall.

Lu Sen only looked past the mist, trying to catch a glimpse of Bai Wei’s shadow. But as the fountain fell, the other side was empty. Where was his wife?

He looked left and right, but apart from the stunned customers and the mall manager hurrying toward him, there was no one else! Lu Sen wasn’t sure if the moment he had just experienced was a hallucination caused by his longing. Perhaps, it wasn’t too surprising that Bai Wei had run off in fear.

The green-haired girl squatted down as she spoke, looking at the empty lamp frame ahead. The boy tilted his head, puzzled. “What’s going on?”

The green-haired girl asked a cleaner what had happened earlier, and her face grew darker. “Let’s check the surveillance footage.”

The mall’s surveillance was limited. After checking the footage, the green-haired player fell into deep thought. The boy with blue hair was confused but didn’t interrupt her thinking. After all, the green-haired player was a well-known expert in the national strategy group.

After the lighting incident, Bai Wei didn’t linger in the mall. He returned to the garage, and his phone received a message from Lu Sen.

His tracker showed Lu Sen had gone to a jewelry store, then a basement supermarket, and after that, he went to a restaurant on the top floor. Lu Sen replied: “Haha, if you were in Black Harbor City, I’d want to eat with you.”

Lu Sen glanced at the night view of Black Harbor City with some regret. The waiter said, “Sir, your two-person meal has been served. Is the other lady or sir coming?”

“No need, I’ll eat alone.” Lu Sen said. He thought Bai Wei must be refusing to join because of his pride.

At that moment, Bai Wei sent a casual message: “Honey, what are you eating? You should eat well when you’re out, don’t just stick to street food every day.”

Lu Sen replied: “Dear, I’m having a great meal, spent 1248 bucks.”

1248 bucks!

Bai Wei’s hand, gripping the phone, turned white with anger. It wasn’t because the meal was expensive, but because Bai Wei knew that the price of 1248 was for a deluxe two-person meal.

Lu Sen, who are you eating this two-person meal with? Who gave you permission to spend my inheritance?

Lu Sen realized he was getting more and more irritable. Clearly, his molting period was approaching.

Bai Wei had endured for a long time. There were many surveillance cameras in the garage. If it weren’t for them, he would have already placed a bomb on Lu Sen’s car. Finally, he saw Lu Sen return to his car, carrying bags from the mall, and drive toward the hotel.

After the big customer left, a mall employee wiped the sweat from their forehead and asked the manager, “What did that customer buy chains and shackles for?”

The manager replied, “Mind your own business, stop prying into customers’ privacy.”

A few hours later, the green-dyed player and the blue-haired player looked at the victim’s purchase records and thought, “Something’s definitely off here.”

Now, Bai Wei had followed Lu Sen to the hotel. He hid in the shadows and saw that after checking in, Lu Sen didn’t go upstairs. Instead, he asked the bellboy to take his luggage up while he sat in the bar on the first floor, seemingly waiting for someone.

Bai Wei felt increasingly speechless. Honestly, discovering that his husband might be waiting for someone else wasn’t a pleasant experience… but then he thought, a script where his husband cheats with a mysterious person and is killed by them wasn’t so bad either.

But no matter how he looked at it, it seemed like Lu Sen was waiting for him. Lu Sen even sent him a message: “Dear, where are you now?”

Could it be that Lu Sen was waiting for him to go upstairs to eat? Bai Wei shuddered. No, this can’t be true. Otherwise, how could he create the assassination plot involving the mysterious person?

Lu Sen was indeed waiting for Bai Wei at the bar. However, he didn’t expect Bai Wei not to enter the lobby.

Bai Wei checked the service staff records and found one who had taken a few days off. He put on a server’s uniform and sneaked into the bar’s backstage, secretly adding something to the drink that was going to be served to Lu Sen.
