Chapter 17
“Sir, here is the drink you ordered.”
Bai Wei pretended to wipe glasses behind the bar. He watched another waiter bring the drink to Lu Sen. Twenty minutes passed, and Lu Sen still showed no signs of drinking, as he continued waiting for someone.
…What is this person trying to do? Bai Wei gritted his teeth. Then his phone rang, and Lu Sen sent him another message.
“Dear, have you gone to sleep?”
“I’m about to sleep. Are you still awake?”
Bai Wei placed the phone under the bar and casually replied.
Lu Sen looked at the message. It seemed like Bai Wei had found a hotel in Black Harbor City. Although he knew Bai Wei had worked there for a year and a half, Lu Sen still couldn’t help but wonder which hotel Bai Wei was staying at and whether it was safe.
Seeing Lu Sen frowning at his phone, Bai Wei had a quick idea and replied with another message:
“It’s so late, you’re still not asleep… Were you out playing? Are you with someone?”
Lu Sen’s emotions were instantly thrown into disarray.
Bai Wei was asking about his whereabouts… Wait, could it be that Bai Wei suspected he was cheating? Did Bai Wei think he came to Black Harbor City to meet someone else?
Lu Sen suddenly recalled what the clothing store owner had said about the “white moonlight.” Oh God, Bai Wei wouldn’t misunderstand him as having another “white moonlight” in Black Harbor City, would she? Did Bai Wei follow him here not out of concern for his safety, but because she suspected him of cheating and was trying to catch him in the act?
—-
In that moment, besides feeling an overwhelming sense of panic that he couldn’t explain, Lu Sen also felt a strange, heavy sensation. For the first time, there was someone in the world who was so stubborn with him, so possessive of him… Oh God, how painful must this feeling be for Bai Wei, who misunderstood him?
Lu Sen immediately replied: “Darling, I’m alone in the hotel. I just can’t sleep. Maybe it’s the noise of the big city. I’m having insomnia in my room.”
Lying!
Bai Wei’s grip on the wine glass tightened. Lu Sen not only spent the night at the hotel bar but was also lying to him?
What was the difference between this Lu Sen and a husband who deliberately cheats while hiding it from his wife, who works from home?
No, no, his primary task now was to make Lu Sen drink that glass of wine. And this response from Lu Sen was exactly what he expected; he should calm down immediately.
“How could this happen, dear? I feel the same way, I have insomnia too. I just had a little brandy. Do you have any alcohol with you? Drinking a little alcohol might help you sleep.”
“How about you have a drink too, just like I’m by your side ^_^”
Bai Wei watched as Lu Sen stared at the message for a while, then, without hesitation, he drank the spiked wine.
The glass was empty. Great!
Bai Wei had already put the cocktail order under a non-existent “Mr. X.” The record would show that Lu Sen asked the bartender to prepare a drink for “Mr. X,” symbolizing passion. Anyone investigating would know that Lu Sen was privately meeting “Mr. X” in the crowded bar. They drank the drinks meant for each other and then went to the bathroom.
Days later, someone would find Lu Sen’s body in a dumpster in the hotel’s back alley. They would learn that Lu Sen came to Black Harbor City to meet his “white moonlight,” “Mr. X.” They drank together in the hotel bar, went into the bathroom, and then, during an argument about divorce, an accident occurred, leading to Lu Sen’s death in an alley without surveillance.
Meanwhile, Bai Wei in Snow Mountain Town knew nothing of this, completely unaware, and would be rid of his zombie-like husband.
Lu Sen was a zombie. His body had died, but his heart hadn’t, and he was still cheating. Wasn’t that reasonable? Bai Wei thought. He quietly retreated from the bar and began waiting for Lu Sen to go to the bathroom. After all, he had put a special stimulant in Lu Sen’s drink.
This special stimulant promoted metabolism. Many athletes who cheat use it in small doses. But when used in large quantities, it causes nausea, vomiting, hallucinations, and dizziness. In an even larger dose, it could cause symptoms like a stroke.
Bai Wei only needed Lu Sen to go to the bathroom and vomit. Based on Lu Sen’s reaction, he would create a scenario where Lu Sen either had a stroke in the bathroom, died from the argument, or accidentally drowned in the toilet while vomiting… Sure enough, Lu Sen quickly stood up.
But he didn’t rush to the bathroom. Instead, he stood tall and headed straight for the hotel elevator.
?!
Bai Wei stared in shock at Lu Sen. At this point, chasing him into the elevator would only make Lu Sen suspicious. He could only watch as the elevator ascended all the way to the 30th floor.
What was Lu Sen doing in his room? Was he planning to go to the bathroom there to vomit?
Wasn’t the path from the bar to the bathroom spacious?
Bai Wei didn’t know Lu Sen’s room number. When he reached the 30th floor, he saw that all the doors were tightly shut. He looked down at his phone and discovered a disheartening fact.
— Lu Sen had left his phone on the bar counter.
Meanwhile, on the 30th floor, the guests in several rooms were fast asleep. Yet, even in their slumber, a thick, deep-sea-like scent began to spread. It caused them to fall into a deeper, unconscious state, and soft murmurs could be heard, eventually settling into complete silence.
Maybe by the afternoon or late at night, they would wake up. But they would just think they slept too deeply and wouldn’t realize the real truth.
A drug had heightened a monster’s physiological activity. The mysterious deep-sea creature had prematurely shed its shell in the hotel.
At this moment, it was extremely agitated and highly aggressive. It was expanding and contracting, emitting an unsettling low growl.
—–
Bai Wei had been waiting near the hotel for two full days.
For two days, there had been no news from the hotel. No word of anyone’s death, nor any new information about Lu Sen. Everything had fallen silent, leaving him unable to know what Lu Sen’s condition was.
Could it be that Lu Sen really died from the poisoned drink?
No, that couldn’t be. Bai Wei didn’t put such a large dose in! Or could it be that for zombie-like creatures, stimulants were something that could kill them?
Bai Wei was starting to get anxious. He slowly finished a bottle of iced water in the hotel’s back alley. If Lu Sen hadn’t died, he should add more fuel to the fire. If Lu Sen had already died, appearing now would undoubtedly expose him.
Eventually, Bai Wei changed into a waiter’s outfit in the locker room and secretly checked the hotel’s room records.
…Soon, Bai Wei saw something that made him furious.
The room registered under “Lu Sen” was not on the 30th floor at all! Was Bai Wei a fool? Lu Sen had been the only one in the elevator that day, and he had definitely reached the 30th floor!
That meant, on the 30th floor, someone else had booked a room. And now, Lu Sen was in that room!
Two days! No sign of him!
Lu Sen!!
…But now, there is a confined space, and the suspect is here. Who says this isn’t a good thing? Bai Wei quickly calmed himself. He began checking the booking records for the thirtieth floor.
It was simple. The thirtieth floor was the presidential suite, with only five rooms in total. Bai Wei quickly narrowed it down to one room based on the booking time and service requests.
Room 3003.
“Lu Sen, you dare to book the presidential suite for a full ten days. If it weren’t for that, I wouldn’t have been able to pinpoint you so quickly,” Bai Wei coldly thought to himself.
But Bai Wei had always been a very calm person. Soon, he suppressed his anger and made a plan.
Bai Wei created an order for room 3003 on the computer. The room had requested the service staff to deliver ice cubes and balloons. Bai Wei transferred this request to the waiter he had replaced. Shortly after, during the quietest afternoon at the hotel, he wore the waiter’s uniform and pushed a metal cart toward the elevator.
Meanwhile, a woman with green-tinted hair and a young man with blue hair entered the hotel. They looked around cautiously, clearly searching for someone.
In the hallway, the green-haired woman brushed past a waiter. After a moment, she turned back, revealing a slightly subtle expression.
