“Wait and see,” Shen Mo said with a serious expression. “The robbers have knives. Acting directly could hurt people. Find a chance to notify the train attendants and have them contact the railway police.”
“Yes,” Yang Zhengtu replied without hesitation, accustomed to following Shen Mo’s orders.
Jiang Ning waited for a few minutes before suddenly standing up, her body swaying slightly.
The woman sitting next to Jiang Ning stood up to let her pass. At that moment, a tall, thin man appeared out of nowhere, grabbed Jiang Ning’s arm, and called out affectionately, “Wife, are you going to the restroom?”
Jiang Ning quickly turned and grabbed the man’s hand, shouting loudly, “Everyone, this is my partner!”
Curious glances were cast in their direction.
The man holding Jiang Ning was startled, feeling the strength in her grip and sensing something was wrong.
Hadn’t she been drugged?
How could she still have so much strength?
Jiang Ning tightly gripped the man’s arm, her beautiful almond-shaped eyes narrowing slightly, like a cunning little fox. “My partner and I have been together for three years. We’ve made a lot of money working out of town. We’re heading back to our hometown to get engaged and married. We’re so happy today and hope to hear your congratulations!”
As soon as she finished speaking, the robbers, who were still some distance away, quickly approached, waving their small knives. The leader of the robbers, with a smile on his face, looked at the tall, thin man and said, “Oh? You’ve made a lot of money? How much?”
Jiang Ning chimed in, “We’ve made several hundred!”
At this, many people looked at Jiang Ning and her partner with sympathetic eyes.
It seemed that being pretty wasn’t enough to make up for a lack of brains. This girl was really not thinking clearly.
It was common knowledge not to flaunt wealth, especially in such chaotic times. This couple was really unlucky to have encountered robbers.
The leader of the robbers looked up at them, licking his lips. “Since you’ve made so much money, it’s only right to buy some local specialties to take back. These five flatbreads, five hundred yuan!”
Jiang Ning widened her eyes, her face a picture of shock. “Five flatbreads for five hundred yuan? Are you robbing us?”
The tall, thin man glared fiercely at Jiang Ning. “Shut up!”
After being shouted at, Jiang Ning lowered her head like a quail, not daring to speak. She let go of the tall, thin man’s hand and, covering her face, ran towards the next carriage.
As a woman, no one stopped Jiang Ning. The tall, thin man tried to run as well but was quickly surrounded by the robbers.
It was only when the group of robbers approached that the human trafficker realized he had been tricked. He and his accomplice had only planned to kidnap women and children, but these robbers had knives, and they couldn’t afford to confront them directly. He immediately explained, “Big brother, I don’t have any money. That woman was lying to you!”
The robber said, “Your partner said you made a lot of money. Don’t lie to us. Hand over the money.”
The tall, thin man looked bitter. “Big brother, I really don’t have any money. You can search me if you don’t believe me.”
One of the robbers, who was eating a roast chicken, stepped forward and ordered, “Search him!”
“Yes, big brother.”
Just as Jiang Ning left her carriage, she saw several train attendants approaching. Jiang Ning quickly went up to them and said, “Officers, I need to report something. There are five robbers and two human traffickers in the next carriage. The robbers have knives, so please be careful.”
Yang Zhengtu looked at Jiang Ning, somewhat surprised. “It’s you. How did you escape from the human traffickers?”
Jiang Ning glanced at him.
She didn’t recognize him.
She didn’t answer his question.
Having just escaped from the human traffickers, Jiang Ning wasn’t foolish enough to go back and put herself in danger again. She stayed a little distance behind the train attendants.
Then she saw the man who had spoken to her earlier signal to the train attendants to hide behind the seats while the robbers weren’t paying attention. He walked over first.
The robbers were still hassling the human trafficker, and Jiang Ning didn’t think the man who had spoken to her could handle all the robbers by himself.
As she watched to see how he would handle the situation, a man suddenly stood up from the seat diagonally across from her. He moved swiftly and decisively, seemingly knowing who the leader of the robbers was, and quickly subdued him.
The train attendants hiding behind the seats seized the opportunity and easily apprehended the group of robbers.
The two human traffickers, seeing the situation was not in their favor, tried to escape while the train attendants were catching the robbers. Jiang Ning ran over and shouted, “That man and woman are human traffickers!”
As soon as she finished speaking, the man who had subdued the leader of the robbers swiftly kicked the tall, thin man, sending him to the ground. The fleeing woman was also caught by the train attendants.
At the next stop, the railway police boarded the train and took the criminals away. Before the train departed, the railway police questioned the two men who had bravely intervened.
She had already observed that the physiques of the two men indicated long-term training, and currently, only military personnel undergo such systematic training.
Jiang Ning took the flatbreads given to her by the human traffickers and walked over to the train attendants, handing them the flatbreads. “These are the pieces of evidence that the human traffickers drugged.”
As she approached, she caught sight of the words on the document: ‘Capital Military District.’
They were actually soldiers from the Capital Military District. She only knew that Shen Mo was serving in the capital but didn’t know the exact location of the Capital Military District. This was a stroke of luck.
Having her own plans in this world, she couldn’t be tied down by a marriage certificate.
It was illegal to interfere with a military marriage, and until the marriage was dissolved, she couldn’t be with another man.
But looking wasn’t against the law.
Jiang Ning’s unconcealed gaze fell on the man standing next to Yang Zhengtu. The man had slightly dark skin, but his face was striking—sharp eyebrows and bright eyes, a stern expression, and an excellent bone structure. His cold, sharp gaze carried a hint of chill, and his well-defined jawline exuded a sense of pressure. When he lowered his eyes, there was a hint of killing intent.
This man would definitely rank in the top five on Jiang Ning’s list of handsome men.
Alas, with a marriage contract in place, she couldn’t flirt with a handsome man in front of her.
If this man were her cheap husband, she might consider not getting a divorce.
Jiang Ning returned to her seat, feeling quite favorable towards these two men. They had bravely stepped forward even when facing a large group of robbers.
The high quality of military personnel was ingrained in their DNA.
Given the current turbulent times, she couldn’t directly ask these two men to take her to the Capital Military District. If she were mistaken for a spy and arrested, that wouldn’t be good.
Just as she was at a loss, the two men suddenly sat down in the seats opposite her.
Shen Mo was pulled over by Yang Zhengtu, under the pretext of protecting the pretty female comrade.
