Grandma Wang stood there, completely dumbfounded.
Watching Jiang Ning cry and make a scene, she was utterly confused. Wasn’t this kind of behavior her own trick?
Grandma Wang had just gotten up from the floor with surprising speed, as agile as a rabbit. She didn’t look like someone who was injured at all.
Soon, everyone realized that she had been faking it.
Sister Li, who had rushed over after receiving a message from her daughter, saw Grandma Wang push Jiang Ning, causing her to hit the table. She immediately ran over to support Jiang Ning, “Young Jiang, are you okay?”
Jiang Ning, acting as if she was really in pain, leaned on Sister Li, “It’s nothing serious, just a little sore from hitting the table.”
Sister Li, usually known for her good temper, couldn’t stand by any longer. Since Jiang Ning was close to her family, she confronted Grandma Wang, “Aunt Wang, you’re quite old. How can you keep bullying a young girl?”
“I’m bullying her?” Grandma Wang’s eyes widened, “She was the one who rushed over and pulled me first.”
Jiang Ning, still leaning on Sister Li, said, “You hit my child. Shouldn’t I have pulled you away?”
“It was your little brat who hit my grandson first. I only went up to stop them,” Grandma Wang said, glaring angrily at Zhiqi. Her sharp and terrifying gaze was quite intimidating.
Zhiqi was frightened by Grandma Wang’s look. He even thought that Grandma Wang was about to rush over and scold him like she had done before.
However, the next moment, a shadow fell in front of him.
Wang Xiaotian, with a bruised and swollen face, glared at Zhiqi and said, ” Zhiqi hit us first, and we only fought back. We just said a few things about his adoptive mother, and he charged at me.”
Jiang Ning narrowed her eyes, catching the mention of her in Wang Xiaotian’s words. “My child is very well-behaved at home. How could he possibly start a fight on his own? Did anyone see what happened?”
She still firmly believed that Zhiqi had not started the fight.
At that moment, a little girl suddenly spoke up, ” Zhiqi didn’t hit first. Xiaotian pushed Zhiqi first, and then they started fighting.”
The little girl looked at Jiang Ning, remembering the last parent-teacher meeting. She had been called to the stage and scolded by Teacher Feng. She had thought she would be punished at home, but Zhiqi’s mother had spoken up during the meeting, and as a result, she hadn’t been scolded at home. Her mother had even said she would help her with her studies.
“What nonsense are you talking about, you little girl?” Grandma Wang, now completely enraged, glared fiercely at the little girl.
The last time she had lost to Jiang Ning, and now she had lost again. When had she ever suffered two losses to the same person?
At this moment, Grandma Wang was filled with resentment and sarcastically said to Jiang Ning, “Fighting just because someone pushed you. It’s true that the apple doesn’t fall far from the tree. The child is no good, and neither is his stepmother!”
“With a seductive appearance like that, you go around tempting men, even flirting with Teacher Feng. How shameless can you be? And you didn’t come home last night. Who knows which wild man you were with!”
As soon as she said this, many people’s expressions towards Jiang Ning changed.
Even the military families who were watching started whispering among themselves.
No matter the era, gossip is always a hot topic that stirs up conversation.
The volume of the surrounding chatter began to rise.
“How shameless, flirting with men even though she’s married, and even with the school teacher.”
“Doesn’t she know this is wrong? With her husband away on missions for long periods, I guess she’s lonely. But being lonely is no excuse to seduce men.”
“Disgusting! Flirting with Teacher Feng is bad enough, but not coming home all night? Who knows which man she was with.”
“I saw her come home early this morning from outside the family compound. She looked disheveled, and it was obvious she had been up to something shady.”
“A woman like that should be publicly denounced and paraded through the streets!”
The surrounding voices grew louder, and Jiang Ning overheard most of it, all about her supposedly seducing Feng Chuan and not coming home last night.
“Seducing someone?” Jiang Ning scanned the crowd with her eyes and then pointed at Feng Chuan, “Which of your eyes saw me seducing him? Do you have any evidence?”
A military family member, who had been jealous of Jiang Ning because Shen Mo had been escorting her, spoke up, “Do you think we’re blind and didn’t see what you did? Can you prove that you didn’t seduce Teacher Feng? If you dare to do it, dare to admit it. Don’t think you can get away with it just because you’re pretty.”
“If I said I saw you seduce ten men, would you admit it?” Jiang Ning stared directly at the woman who had spoken.
The woman’s expression changed, “I… I didn’t seduce ten men. We’re talking about you, don’t slander me!”
Jiang Ning smiled coldly, looking at her, “See, you have no evidence to prove you didn’t seduce anyone either. Either provide evidence that I seduced someone, or we can go to the police station. Think carefully; slandering someone’s reputation is illegal.”
These military family members liked to gossip and chat idly. A few women together could create quite a drama, and they often steered conversations towards dark topics based on hearsay. Jiang Ning knew she couldn’t argue with so many mouths.
As soon as Jiang Ning mentioned the police station, the women who had been whispering fell silent, their expressions changing. They didn’t want to get their husbands into trouble by going to the police station over some idle gossip.
Jiang Ning didn’t miss the smirk on Feng Chuan’s face. Now she finally understood why he had been stopping her and the strange “coincidences” before. He had been harboring such malicious intentions.
Although it was just idle talk, Jiang Ning’s mention of the police station silenced the women. Realizing she couldn’t argue with Jiang Ning, the woman quickly changed the topic, “Regardless of whether you seduced Teacher Feng or not, you were out all night last night. That’s not something we made up.”
However, just as she finished speaking, a loudspeaker voice suddenly came from outside.
The family compound and the elementary school shared the same broadcasting system.
