Chapter 116 : Treat You the Way You Treat Me
She turned around and saw Cao Min standing not far away, glaring at her with a sinister expression.
When Su Xieqiu saw it was her, she was no longer worried. After all, they had already fallen out, and a confrontation was inevitable.
She raised her eyebrows and smiled, “Cao Min, long time no see. Are you going to work?”
Cao Min looked at her coldly and gritted her teeth. “Su Xieqiu, don’t be too pleased with yourself. I won’t let you off.”
Su Xieqiu smiled faintly, “I was just about to say that to you. As the saying goes, ‘It’s impolite not to reciprocate.’ I’m just treating you the way you’ve treated me.”
“You know how unpleasant it feels to be framed by someone, right? Then why did you frame me in the first place? Did you think I was easy to bully and wouldn’t fight back?”
After saying that, her expression turned serious, and she warned her in a deep voice, “I’m not a soft target that can be easily bullied. If you dare provoke me again, I will return the favor tenfold or a hundredfold. If you don’t believe me, just try it.”
Cao Min stared at her for a moment, then turned and walked away.
Su Xieqiu sneered, not taking her threat seriously.
Weren’t they just cheap tricks? It’s not like she didn’t know how to deal with them, so she’d just keep playing along.
—
Children’s friendships develop quickly. By the end of the afternoon, Chenchen and Goudan had become brothers.
When Su Xieqiu took them back, both Goudan and Chenchen were reluctant to part ways.
If you didn’t know any better, you’d think they were being separated forever.
“Auntie, will you come play tomorrow? If not, can we come to your house to find Chenchen and An an?” asked Goudan.
Su Xieqiu smiled and replied, “Of course, but your parents will have to come with you because we live at the foot of the mountain, and there may be wild animals. It’s not safe for you to go alone.”
Chenchen needs friends. If he could play with the children in the village, he might become more carefree.
Another boy named Xiao Shitou sighed and said, “Auntie, why did your family build the house so far away? It’s almost up the mountain.”
Before Su Xieqiu could respond, Goudan started gossiping mysteriously. “You don’t know? Uncle Zhenyu was driven out by his father and stepmother. They didn’t have anywhere to live in the village, so Uncle Zhenyu and aunt went to build a house in the mountains.”
“Oh, so that’s how it is. All stepmothers are bad,” said Xiao Shitou, looking at Su Xieqiu with sympathy, feeling that this beautiful aunt was really pitiful.
Su Xieqiu couldn’t help but laugh. She didn’t expect these little ones to have such a flair for gossip.
On the way back with the two children, Chenchen held her hand and asked, “Aunt Su, were you and Uncle Han really kicked out?”
Su Xieqiu nodded and briefly explained the conflict with the old house, hoping to prevent Chenchen from suffering in the future.
“Your Uncle Han’s biological mother died when he was very young. This one is his stepmother, and she’s not kind to him at all. We just separated recently.”
“Don’t pay attention to that family if you see them in the future. Your Uncle Han has already cut ties with them.”
“I understand, Aunt Su.”
Although Chenchen was young, he was a child with principles.
He thought to himself, since those people weren’t kind to Uncle Han and Aunt Su, he would stay away from them.
When she got home, Su Xieqiu opened the small package and found a piece of defective cloth inside, about four or five feet long.
She snorted and chuckled, muttering, “Sending me something out of the blue must be like a weasel offering New Year’s greetings to a chicken, with no good intentions.”
When Su Xieqiu saw the letter inside, she knew she was right.
The letter was written by her stepfather, who ordered her to take care of her cousin, Su Xieyun.
Seeing the concern in his letter, anyone who didn’t know would have thought Su Xieyun was his biological daughter.
The cheap mother first pretended to care about her.
She also talked about how difficult the family’s life was, how long it had been since they had eaten meat, and how they even bought vegetables at bargain prices. Both of Su Xiachun’s sons had become thin.
Finally, she subtly asked Su Xieqiu to send some specialties from Northeast China back home.
Su Xieqiu almost laughed out of anger after reading the letter.
She curled her lips, threw the letter aside, and didn’t even plan to reply. She was too lazy to continue pretending to be nice to those people.
But she could keep this piece of cloth because those people kept it to annoy her, so she shouldn’t waste it.
Though she didn’t need these things, she could still do them a favor.
Su Xieqiu went to the yard to practice kung fu with Chenchen for a while, then got up and went to the kitchen.
She had to go to work tomorrow, so she planned to make some buns and steamed buns, which she could heat up and eat when she came back from work.
—
Wuhua County Labor Farm
This time, Han Zhenyu and Li Shaohua each drove a truck over. Together with trucks borrowed from other places, there were a total of six trucks.
The farm workers were loading grain into the trucks.
Han Zhenyu was checking the truck in front, which was his habit before every departure.
“You’re so used to enjoying city life that you can’t even carry a bag of food. I warn you, work hard and don’t be lazy all day. We don’t support idle people here!” a manager was cursing in the background.
Han Zhenyu knew that most of the people here were educated youth from the city, some sent here for labor reform.
He didn’t bother with them. He checked the truck, picked up the kettle in the vehicle, and prepared to fill it with hot water to drink on the way.
The manager saw him holding the kettle and immediately asked enthusiastically, “do you want some hot water?”
Han Zhenyu smiled and nodded, about to ask him where he could get water.
Suddenly, he saw a familiar figure among the people loading the truck.
He paused in shock, then immediately looked away.
He then took out some cigarettes from his pocket and gave two to the manager.
“Boss, where can I get some hot water?”
The manager, seeing the two cigarettes and hearing him call him “boss,” was very happy and his tone became even more enthusiastic than before.
“They have it in the cafeteria. Just go there and pick it up. Just say you’re a driver here to pick up food. They won’t dare to make things difficult for you.”
