Time-Traveling to the Seventies : My Troublemaker Husband is Full of Secrets Chapter 141

Chapter 141 : Sending Supplies to Chenchen’s Parents

Han Zhenyu and his team made two trips to the city for food today.

When they returned to the Wuhua County farm, it was already past seven in the evening.

They planned to stay at the farm’s guesthouse tonight, assist with hauling for another day tomorrow, and then return.

Han Zhenyu said, “Shaohua, please head back to the guesthouse first. I’ll go return the clothes to Director Chen.”

Li Shaohua jumped out of the car, stretched, and rolled his neck. “Alright, go ahead. Hand me your letter of introduction, and I’ll help with the formalities.”

“Okay, thanks for your help.”

Han Zhenyu passed him the letter of introduction from his bag and went directly to Director Chen’s house.

By now, it was completely dark, and Director Chen’s family had just finished dinner.

Seeing him arrive, Director Chen greeted him warmly, “Brother, you’re here! Come in quickly. I’ll have your sister-in-law prepare some noodles for you.”

He then called out, “Yingzi, my brother is here! Quickly, make something to eat.”

Han Zhenyu hurriedly replied, “Brother Chen, no need to trouble sister-in-law. I’ve already eaten.”

Cao Ying had already heard about Han Zhenyu from her husband.

She came out of the house with a warm smile. “Brother Han, you’ve worked hard. Come in and have a seat.”

“Thank you, sister-in-law.”

Han Zhenyu followed the couple into the main room and placed the clothes and a package on the table.

“Brother Chen, I didn’t have time to wash your clothes. I’m really sorry.”

Chen Yuanming waved dismissively, smiling. “Why bother washing them? You only wore them for a day, they’re not dirty.”

Han Zhenyu smiled, pointing to the bag on the table. “Sister-in-law, my wife was so happy to hear that I found a big brother here. She prepared these things for you and the children.”

“Oh, why did you bring anything?”

Cao Ying had already noticed the contents of the bag as soon as he entered.

She was both surprised and delighted, knowing that Han Zhenyu worked as a driver for a machinery factory, a position indicative of good family conditions.

She hadn’t expected him to be so generous, and she wondered how they could reciprocate.

Both Chen Yuanming and Cao Ying thought Han Zhenyu came from a strong background.

Drivers were highly respected at that time, with opportunities to earn extra income on trips. Becoming a driver required influential connections.

The couple decided to maintain a good relationship with Han Zhenyu, hoping for a long-term connection that could be helpful in the future.

Han Zhenyu, aware of their thoughts, didn’t mind their considerations. He also had his reasons for seeking out Chen Yuanming.

Understanding the situation, he casually remarked, “Brother Chen, sister-in-law, it’s really nothing. Just a small gift from my wife, please don’t refuse.”

Cao Ying glanced at her husband, and Chen Yuanming, after a brief moment of thought, said, “Since it’s a token of your and your wife’s kindness, we’ll accept it.”

He had already decided to gather some food for Han Zhenyu before he left, as a way to return the favor and help him earn a bit extra.

Cao Ying then smiled and said, “Thank you, Brother Han.”

“You’re welcome, sister-in-law.”

After chatting with Chen Yuanming for a while, Han Zhenyu brought up Jiang Shaoting.

“Brother Chen, my wife also prepared some things for the person who saved me. Would it be convenient for me to deliver them?”

Chen Yuanming was silent for a moment before whispering, “Brother, the identities of those people are very sensitive. It’s best not to get too close to them.”

Han Zhenyu replied, “Brother Chen, I understand, but that comrade saved my life. Such a great favor deserves acknowledgment. If I don’t express my gratitude, it would be unreasonable and not in line with my principles.”

Chen Yuanming glanced at him, thought for a moment, and said, “Then I’ll take you there. If anyone asks, just say I have something to discuss with them.”

“Thank you, Brother Chen,” Han Zhenyu said cautiously. “This won’t cause you any trouble, will it? I wouldn’t want you to face any difficulties because of me.”

“It’s fine. That person did save you, and if anyone asks, I’ll just tell the truth.”

Chen Yuanming added in a low voice, “To be honest, while the people who saved you are technically under my management, their family’s special status makes them subject to higher-level scrutiny. I can’t afford to make any mistakes.”

“Brother Chen, I understand. Thank you so much for helping me with this.”

Han Zhenyu first went to the truck to retrieve the items he had brought. Seeing a pile of fried cakes and eggs in a bag, he decided to bring those as well.

After asking Chen Yuanming to check the items, the two of them carried the bags to Jiang Shaoting.

Chen Yuanming looked at the two large bags and commented, “Brother, you’re very thoughtful. Although these quilts and cotton clothes are old, they’re exactly what they need. These people didn’t bring much clothing when they came, let alone quilts. I’m really worried about how they’ll survive the winter.”

“Brother Chen, my wife prepared all of this. She said that since someone saved me, we should give them something practical. That’s the proper way to show gratitude.”

Han Zhenyu wanted to present himself and his wife as generous and righteous, ensuring that Chen Yuanming wouldn’t grow suspicious if they brought or delivered items in the future.

Chen Yuanming smiled and praised, “Your wife is truly remarkable. Brother, bring her over to visit sometime when you’re free. I’ll show you around the farm.”

“Brother Chen, as long as you and sister-in-law don’t mind the trouble, I’ll definitely bring her to see you.”

“Why would I mind? You’d be more than welcome.”

As they chatted, they arrived at the row of houses where Jiang Shaoting lived.

It was already past eight o’clock, and most people had gone to bed after a day of hard labor.

Jiang Shaoting stepped out of the house carrying a basin of water and saw Chen Yuanming and Han Zhenyu. He paused, gave no greeting, poured out the water, and turned back inside.

As he was closing the door, Chen Yuanming called out, “Jiang Shaoting, wait! I need to talk to you.”

Jiang Shaoting turned and asked, “Director Chen, what’s the matter?”

Gu Fanghua, who was making the bed, heard Director Chen’s voice and came out.

Fearing she might recognize Han Zhenyu, Jiang Shaoting quickly grabbed her hand and gave it a reassuring squeeze.

Han Zhenyu said warmly, “Comrade Jiang, thank you for saving my life yesterday. I came to personally thank you. Did I disturb your rest?”

Jiang Shaoting replied with a faint smile, as if they had never met before, “It was nothing. You’re too polite.”

Gu Fanghua’s eyes sparkled as she looked at Han Zhenyu and Chen Yuanming. With a smile, she said, “If you don’t mind our simple home, please come in and sit.”

Han Zhenyu glanced at Chen Yuanming and asked in a low voice, “Brother Chen, can I go in to say a few words of thanks?”

Seeing his caution, Chen Yuanming smiled and waved his hand. “It’s fine, go ahead. I’ll wait for you outside.”

He added, “I often come here in the evenings for help or to assign overtime. It’s not unusual.”

Han Zhenyu nodded with a smile, took the large bags from Chen Yuanming, and said, “Brother Chen, please wait for me for a moment. I’ll be out shortly.”

“Take your time,” Chen Yuanming replied, walking away. “I’ll stroll around nearby. Call me when you’re done.”

Once Chen Yuanming was out of sight, Han Zhenyu carried the bags into the room.

As Jiang Shaoting closed the door, he said anxiously, “Zhenyu, why are you here again? If people find out we knew each other before, it will implicate you.”

Gu Fanghua added nervously, “Zhenyu, you should leave quickly. Don’t come here again, just act like you don’t know us.”

Seeing their concern, Han Zhenyu smiled and reassured them, “Don’t worry, no one knows about our prior connection.”

He looked around the small adobe house, about seven or eight square meters, with a brick bed and a simple stove nearby. The living conditions were modest and sparse.
