Chapter 15 : Mouth Like a Machine Gun
After Su Xieqiu finished speaking, she glanced at the expressions of the Han family.
Han Baoguo lowered his head, lost in thought.
Han Zhenhua and Han Meili glared at her with anger.
Zhang Qianyun had no visible expression on her face, but her eyes were filled with excitement. She was eager to see how her powerful mother-in-law would deal with Su Xieqiu.
Yang Lanhua stared at her with a grim face. If this had been the old Su Xieqiu, she would have been trembling with fear in the presence of this family.
But now, Su Xieqiu was no longer afraid of them. To handle such people, they would only be cautious if you were stronger than them. If you showed weakness, they would only become more aggressive in the future.
Yang Lanhua didn’t expect that Su Xieqiu’s words would come out so quickly and forcefully, firing off like a machine gun, leaving no room for anyone to interrupt.
Moreover, this woman’s loud words had drawn people from outside who were now standing by the door, eager to watch the spectacle.
Yang Lanhua knew that if she didn’t explain herself right now, the image of a loving mother that she had carefully built over the years would collapse.
That bitch even dragged Meili into this, trying to ruin her daughter’s reputation.
Yang Lanhua collapsed onto the ground, slapped her thigh, and cried in an aggrieved manner, “They say it’s hard to be a stepmother, but I didn’t believe it before. I always thought sincerity could be exchanged for sincerity. But today, I finally understand that you can’t warm up a stone, and you can’t tame an ungrateful person.”
She looked at Han Baoguo, tears in her eyes, and said, “Old man, please be fair. Am I not the one who favors the eldest child the most? I’m just afraid that others will say I’m biased as a stepmother. He hangs out all day and earns only a few work points each year. Has he ever come home hungry? But look at how his wife treats me now. I really can’t live like this…”
Seeing his wife crying so sorrowfully, Han Baoguo began to feel that his eldest son was indeed an ungrateful person, and he was about to join his wife in scolding his rebellious son.
Su Xieqiu didn’t give him a chance to speak. She smiled coldly and said disdainfully to Yang Lanhua
“You’re really good at confusing right and wrong. If you really treated my husband like your own son or daughter, why would he have to go out and beg at such a young age? It’s because when you have a stepmother, you also have a stepfather. Since this family couldn’t accommodate him, what else could he do if not go out to beg for food?”
Han Zhenyu, who had been forced to beg at a young age, twitched his mouth when he heard what his wife had said outside the door.
Then he felt a warm current flow through his heart, as though something soft was gently caressing his cold heart.
Apart from his grandparents and uncle, this woman was the first person to defend him. No matter how sincere her words were, at least she was speaking up for him at that moment.
Seeing that her mother-in-law was no match for Su Xieqiu, Zhang Qianyun was just about to think of a way to change the subject when she suddenly saw the door to the main room wide open.
She knew it must have been done by that bitch Su Xieqiu.
She was about to remind her parents-in-law, but then she remembered Su Xieqiu’s warning from the morning and swallowed her words back.
She gently nudged Han Meili beside her and pretended to be puzzled, asking, “Little sister, didn’t you lock the door to the main room when we went to the field? Why is it open now?”
Han Meili glanced at the broken door and the lock on the ground and exclaimed, “Dad, Mom, the lock to our house was pried open?”
Yang Lanhua didn’t bother to pretend anymore. She jumped up from the ground with a cry and ran into the main room.
Soon, her voice, filled with rage, echoed from the room, as though a pig were being slaughtered “My flour, my eggs, my oil, my malted milk! You ungrateful bastard, why are you so greedy? You even stole the old man’s food rations, which I saved for him to nourish his body. You are worse than an animal!”
Su Xieqiu laughed sarcastically in the yard, “Look, the fox’s tail is exposed. Let everyone see how vicious your stepmother is. Your daughter and daughter-in-law took all the prepared food and locked the door to the main room. It’s obvious they want to starve us to death.”
She looked at the villagers outside the door and said helplessly, “The team leader arranged for my husband to go to the mountain to cut trees today, so he didn’t go out to beg. He didn’t have enough for breakfast, and when he came back at noon, he was so hungry that he had no choice but to break the door lock and use the food to make some pancakes. But my stepmother-in-law wrongly accused us of stealing her eggs and flour.”
At this moment, Han Zhenyu walked in. When Su Xieqiu saw him, she smiled bitterly and sighed.
“Alas, I really can’t explain myself now. We are obviously a family, but you are guarding against us like thieves. Just because I went to the main room to get some food, your stepmother now calls me worse than an animal. I really don’t dare to think how you’ve lived through these years.”
Han Zhenyu, with a sullen face, said, “If you can’t explain it, then don’t bother. I’ve been wronged like this since I was a child, and I’m used to it now.”
He pulled Su Xieqiu back into the house and said, “Why are you bothering with them? Give them face.”
As soon as he said this, it confirmed what kind of person Yang Lanhua was.
Han Zhenhua was so angry that veins were popping on his forehead. He clenched his fists and was about to step forward to argue, but Zhang Qianyun held him back.
Zhang Qianyun knew full well that her man couldn’t beat Han Zhenyu, that gangster, and if she rushed forward, she would only get beaten.
Besides, her father-in-law was still standing there, so it wasn’t her turn to speak up.
The whole courtyard was silent for a moment, then suddenly, Yang Lanhua’s heart-wrenching cry came from the house, “Old man, listen to what i said? I’ve devoted all these years, but he only complains about me?”
She ran out of the main room, grabbed Han Baoguo, and beat him while crying, “You damn old man, I was a young girl when I married you. Now I’m so old, and I’m still scolded by the younger generation. You, as a father, dare not even speak up. What sin did I commit to marry a loser like you?”
Han Baoguo’s face turned red. He felt his eldest son had made him lose face. He shouted, “Son, bring your wife over here to apologize to your mother.”
Han Zhenyu stood at the door and said coldly, “My mother died a long time ago.” Then he slammed the door shut without giving him any face.
Han Baoguo’s face turned red, unsure whether it was from anger or shame, but he didn’t dare to beat him as he did when he was a child.
This son no longer allowed himself to be beaten or scolded since he was ten years old. Every time Han Baoguo tried to act, the kid would glare at him viciously.
He was frightened every time he saw that look.
Seeing this, the people who had gathered outside to watch slowly dispersed.
Today, Han Lei and several men from the village had been cutting trees on the mountain with Han Zhenyu. They had witnessed the whole farce in the Han family from start to finish.
One man laughed and said, “I used to think Zhenyu’s wife was very timid. She didn’t even dare to raise her head when walking on the street. But today, her mouth is like a machine gun? She even made her powerful mother-in-law speechless.”
Han Lei smiled and said, “Uncle Chunming, if a person is bullied and has no way to survive, they will definitely resist. Yesterday, Dashu and I took Zhenyu’s wife to the hospital. The doctor said the wound on her head was very deep and there would definitely be sequelae. He also said that the person who did it was cruel and ruthless. If the wound had been any deeper, she might have lost her life. Now, if you let people keep bullying her like before, how will she survive in the future?”
Han Chunming was shocked when he heard this and asked in a low voice, “Is it that serious?”
Han Lei nodded, “The doctor in the hospital said so.”
Han Chunming made two “tsk tsk” sounds. He had heard from someone the day before that the wound on Zhenyu’s wife’s head was caused by her sister-in-law.
Everyone thought it was just a minor quarrel between aunt and sister-in-law, but they didn’t expect the fight to be so severe.
That beautiful girl is only fifteen or sixteen years old this year. How could she be so cruel?
If you marry such a ruthless girl, which family won’t be torn apart by her? Just thinking about it makes me feel cold.
