Time-Traveling to the Seventies : My Troublemaker Husband is Full of Secrets Chapter 37

Chapter 37 : Don’t dare to offend, there is something wrong with your brain

Su Xieqiu glanced at her and said unceremoniously, “Auntie, do you want me to show you our separation agreement?”

“Oh, I was just asking casually, why are you angry? Since you were kicked out of the house, how did you still have the money to buy so many bricks?”

The woman was extremely shameless, and she seemed not to have noticed Su Xieqiu’s sarcasm, still asking questions with a grin on her face.

“Where does our family’s money come from? Do I need to report to you about what I buy? Who do you think you are to ask such things? How dare you be so shameless?”

The woman’s face fell when she heard Su Xieqiu’s harsh response.

Su Xieqiu wasn’t afraid of her. She put her hands on her hips, gave a fierce look to the gossipers, and said:

“Although my mother-in-law passed away early, we still have my grandfather and uncle to help us, and my husband has a formal job. So why can’t he buy bricks and build a house?”

She paused before continuing, “I warn you, if anyone dares to spread rumors about my man not doing his job properly and calling him a gangster, I’ll sit at your door every day and curse you!”

Su Xieqiu originally wanted to confront them more aggressively, but when she thought about her small frame, she realized she wouldn’t be able to take on those big and strong old women. So instead, she decided to just curse anyone who offended her.

The women didn’t believe her at all. When they heard her bragging about her husband not being a gangster and having a formal job, they all smiled with curled lips.

However, they didn’t ask any more questions. They had all heard from Yang Lanhua that Han Zhenyu’s wife had a mental issue and could beat people or burn down houses at any time.

They didn’t dare provoke someone like that. What if this woman had a breakdown and set their house on fire at night?

Who could reason with a madwoman?

Su Xieqiu saw that although these women looked somewhat disdainful, they all fell silent. She thought her threats had worked, but little did she know, they thought she was a psychopath.

She snorted and walked back to the brigade headquarters with her head held high.

When Han Zhenyu arrived in Dujiatun, his grandfather and family were having lunch.

“Grandma, Grandpa, Uncle, Aunt, I’m here!” Han Zhenyu parked his bicycle in the yard and shouted into the house.

“Hey, Zhenyu, aren’t you supposed to go on a business trip? Why haven’t you left yet? Did something happen?” Uncle Du hurried out to ask.

“Uncle, it’s nothing. I won’t leave until tomorrow night.” Han Zhenyu ran to the kitchen, filled a bucket of water, and then added, “I’m here to build a house, and I want you and Grandpa to help keep an eye on things.”

At this point, the whole family came out of the house, and his two cousins and one cousin greeted him happily.

Han Zhenyu smiled and said, “I came in a rush today and didn’t bring you any snacks. I’ll bring you some roast chicken the next time I come.”

His eldest cousin, Du Zhonghua, said, “Brother, we don’t like to eat those. Don’t waste your money next time.”

Han Zhenyu smiled and patted his shoulder. “Zhonghua, you’re becoming more and more sensible. When we used to sleep in the same bed, you often peed on me. Now, in the blink of an eye, you’re already 16.”

His words made the whole family laugh, and his little cousin, Du Zhongjun, even clapped his hands and laughed at his older brother.

Du Zhonghua, looking embarrassed, said, “Brother, you’re talking nonsense! When did I ever pee on you?”

Chen Yufen smiled and shook her head, then asked her daughter to bring the dishes and chopsticks.

Grandpa Du said, “It’s so sunny outside, let’s go inside and talk.”

Grandma Du saw Han Zhenyu’s face covered in sweat and said with concern, “It’s so hot today, why don’t you take a nap at home before coming over?”

Han Zhenyu took her hand and smiled, “Grandma, I’ve split up the family business and am going to build my own house.”

“What’s going on? When was the division? Why didn’t they invite us to such a big event?” Grandpa Du frowned and asked. “What did that beast give you?”

“Grandpa, I don’t want his things. I’m leaving with nothing.” Han Zhenyu explained the division agreement to his grandparents. “I don’t want anything to do with that family anymore, so this division is very clean.”

“Then why are you still building a house in the village? You’re about to be converted to a regular employee, and the factory should be able to provide you with a dormitory by then, right?” asked Uncle Du Xianyong.

Han Zhenyu thought for a moment and explained to his grandparents about Su Xieqiu’s refusal to leave.

“She doesn’t like the city and wants to live in the countryside. I also think the countryside is better than the city. There are so many people living on one floor of the factory, and there are a lot of conflicts between neighbors. The children are very noisy, and it’s hard to get a good night’s rest.”

Everyone in the family knew he was independent-minded, so no one commented.

Grandma Du sighed and said, “Bring the girl over when you have time so we can see her. You two have been married for several months, and I still haven’t seen what my grandson’s wife looks like.”

When Han Zhenyu got married, they didn’t have a wedding banquet or notify their relatives and friends. They simply went to get the marriage certificate and kept it low-key.

“Grandma, I’ll bring her to see you when I come back,” Han Zhenyu said with a smile.

“Let’s eat first. Zhenyu must be hungry,” Chen Yufen said, serving a bowl of rice and placing it in front of him.

“Thank you, Aunt.” Han Zhenyu didn’t hesitate and began eating with chopsticks.

He had lived here for five years. Both his grandparents and his uncles and aunts had been very kind to him, and he considered this place his home.

Grandpa Du waited until Han Zhenyu put down his bowl and chopsticks before asking, “Has the foundation been approved? How are you going to build it?”

“It’s been approved. I plan to build four brick houses. Grandpa and my uncle will you help me find some skilled workers. The wages are 80 cents a day. It would be best if it’s close to our village, so the workers can go home for lunch. I won’t be providing meals.”

Grandpa Du and Uncle Du both felt the wages were a bit high.

“You don’t need to charge that much for food. Seventy cents a day is enough,” said Uncle Du.

Han Zhenyu shook his head. “Uncle, it’s 80 cents. There are ten people in our village. The price has been agreed upon. Can you help me find a few more bricklayers? My wife and I have moved out of the Han family and now live in the brigade headquarters. It’s just an adobe house without even a kang, and we need to move in before it snows.”

Uncle Du calculated the costs and figured that paying them an extra dime a day would motivate them to work harder, so the total cost would actually be about the same.

“Well, 80 cents is fine. I’ll make sure they work quickly. It should be done in a month. I’ll go talk to your uncle this afternoon. There are a few bricklayers in their village who are pretty skilled. We can hire them when the time comes.”

Han Zhenyu said, “Uncle, I was originally going to talk to my eldest uncle, but since you’re going, I won’t go. I still have a lot to do at home.”

“Okay, you go back and get busy, and leave the rest to me and your uncle,” Grandpa Du waved his hand.

Han Zhenyu nodded, then said to both of them, “Grandpa, uncle, when you go tomorrow, bring a change of clothes and bedding. You’ll live there and help me keep an eye on the materials.”

“Okay, got it. Just drive slowly,” Grandpa Du replied.
