Chapter 46 : Breaking off Letter
There were three pieces of paper in the envelope. The first was a letter from Su’s mother, written in a parental tone, giving her instructions.
She said that since Su Xieqiu was married, she should live well in the countryside and not constantly think about returning to the city.
Then, Su’s mother “particularly” emphasized a few points, saying that life in the city was tough now and the factory’s efficiency was not as good as before, so it would be better for her to live a stable life in the countryside.
She also mentioned some things at home, saying that her sister-in-law had given birth to twin sons, which made the housing situation even more cramped.
Every line of the letter implied that there was no place for her at home anymore and that she was expected to give up the idea of returning to the city.
The second letter was written by Su Xiexia, referring to the second sister who had stolen her boyfriend.
The letter mentioned that she had married Yu Wenhao, and that Yu Wenhao’s parents valued her so much that they bought her three major items.
Finally, she mentioned their younger sister, Su Xiedong, who was also going to the countryside, but their mother couldn’t bear to let her go, so she gave her job to stay at home and take care of her eldest brother’s children.
Su Xieqiu looked at the letter and smiled coldly. This was Su Xiexia’s deliberate attempt to provoke her.
The two sisters had been at odds since childhood, and their older brother and younger sister sided with Su Xiexia, who was sweet-talking and good at coaxing people.
Although Su Xieqiu was beautiful, she was cowardly and unlikable. She had always been neglected at home, and her parents did not pay as much attention to her as they did to the other children.
So, this time, for Su Xiexia’s sake, Su’s father and mother had no hesitation in sending her to work in the countryside in the Northeast.
Su Xieqiu finished reading the letter with a sneer, lay down on the bed, thought for a while, then found some paper and a pen.
Pretending to be extremely disappointed, she imitated the original owner’s handwriting and wrote a reply letter.
The general message was that, since there was no place for her at home and her parents no longer considered her their daughter, she would go her own way from now on.
She would no longer think about returning to the city, nor have any hope for them.
She asked them not to write to her anymore and not to tell her about what was happening at home.
She would stay in the countryside and not disturb their family’s happiness.
Finally, Su Xieqiu added something to disgust them “When I become rich in the future, I hope you won’t shamelessly come and take advantage of me.”
Although these words were harsh, Su Xieqiu didn’t think there was anything wrong with them.
Compared to the Su family’s cruelty towards her, what she said was just politeness.
Su Xieqiu smiled and blew the ink dry on the letter, preparing to send it back to Haicheng in a couple of days.
“Aren’t you afraid that I’ll ruin your business when I return? Then I’ll cut off all ties with you.”
From now on, they should keep out of each other’s way, live their own lives, and not take advantage of one another.
Su Xieqiu’s principle in life was: if you respect me an inch, I’ll return you a yard.
But if you think I’m easy to bully and throw mud at me, I’ll smear it right back on your face.
Su Xieqiu turned off the lights and went into the space to have a snack.
Han Lei had helped buy a lot of food and eggs, as well as a roe deer.
Today, Han Zhenyu’s grandfather and uncle also brought some food and vegetables.
When Su Xieqiu cooked, she would sneak some rice, flour, oil, and seasonings from the space.
There were six of them, so this amount of food should last for a while.
When Han Zhenyu left, he told her not to go into the city alone, and if she really needed anything, she could ask her uncle to buy it for her.
Now, there are cornfields more than a meter tall on both sides of the road. They are probably worried that something might happen to her on the road.
But if I don’t go, there’s no way to take out those things from the space.
She was going to ask Aunt Qiuye if she wanted to go to the city in the next few days and go with them then.
Su Xieqiu sat on the sofa, leisurely eating snacks and fruits, feeling that life now was really comfortable.
Although life here is tough, the pressure is not as great.
There’s no need to intrigue with colleagues like in the past life.
There’s no need to worry about making a mistake and getting stabbed in the back by a villain if you’re not careful.
She has been sleeping much better since coming here.
On the foundation side, Uncle Du brought out the foot washing water, took the iron pot from the stove into the house, and then lay down on the bed to talk to Grandpa Du.
“Dad, what do you think of Zhenyu’s wife?” asked Uncle Du.
Grandpa Du smiled and said, “She’s a very good girl. Pretty, speaks openly, works efficiently, and cooks delicious meals. She’s worthy of Zhenyu.”
“If she can really stay and live a stable life with Zhenyu, then we can all rest assured.”
Uncle Du also had a good impression of Su Xieqiu, but he was still a little worried.
He feared that the girl from the big city wouldn’t be able to adapt to life in the countryside, and that she might ask to go back to the city. Wouldn’t that be a mistake for Zhenyu?
There was an example in their team. When a female educated youth first arrived, she didn’t know how to do farm work, so she found a young man in the team, married him, and had a child.
She went back to the city to visit relatives last year and never returned.
Although Zhenyu is perfect in the eyes of his relatives and is more than suitable for any girl, outsiders don’t know this.
He shared his thoughts with his father “Dad, I heard that Zhenyu’s wife is from Haicheng, which is a big city. She has no choice but to stay in the village now, but if she has the chance to return to the city, do you think she’ll stay in the countryside and suffer? If she leaves, it will be Zhenyu who gets embarrassed.”
In their rural Northeast, not getting married isn’t too shameful.
But if the wife runs away, it would be a great shame, and Zhenyu would never be able to hold his head high again.
Grandpa Du looked at his worried son and smiled, “Zhenyu is a smart kid. If he really can’t get along with this girl, he can handle it himself. Don’t worry about it. Go to bed early. There’s still a lot of work to do tomorrow.”
Uncle Du thought about his clever nephew and felt that he was worrying too much.
He smiled and shook his head, thinking he was being overly concerned.
The father and son discussed the work for the next day and then fell into a deep sleep.
Su Xieqiu came over with a basket before dawn the next day.
Grandpa Du and Uncle Du also got up. One of them was carrying bricks toward the foundation, while the other was mixing the mud.
After preparing these, they could start building the walls directly when the craftsmen arrived.
Su Xieqiu saw that there were already several piles of bricks, and hurriedly said, “Grandpa, Uncle, Take a break and continue working after breakfast.”
“Zhenyu’s wife is here.” Grandpa Du smiled and said, “It’s okay, these are just small jobs, not tiring.”
As the three were talking, Han Zhenyu’s uncle and two cousins arrived.
After saying hello, the father and two sons took up their tools and started working.
Su Xieqiu also hurried to cook.
She thought only Grandpa Du and her uncle were there in the morning, but she didn’t expect her uncle family to come so early.
She first boiled corn porridge in the pot, took out the soaked black fungus and vermicelli from the basket, chopped them up, fried a few eggs, and then started to blanch the bread and buns.
Building a house is hard work, so she had to prepare something for breakfast to keep them from getting hungry.
When Uncle Du came back to get the rope, he saw the meal she had prepared and quickly said:
“Zhenyu’s wife, in the morning, just cook some rice porridge and eat some pickles. Why are you still making dumplings, and using white flour?”
