Chapter 63 : Falling out

When Chen Hong heard that her father was also coming, she thought he was coming to talk about her and Han Zhenyu.

She was excited and expectant, her cheeks as red as blooming peach blossoms.

She looked at Han Zhenyu secretly, her admiration for him nearly overflowing in her eyes.

Han Zhenyu noticed her gaze and turned his head away in disgust.

Chen Hong thought he was embarrassed and shyly looked away.

Li Chong saw their expressions and shook his head inwardly.

He originally felt the atmosphere was a bit awkward and wanted to find a topic to ease it, but now he thought it would be better to remain silent. He would wait until Director Chen came to say anything.

He was just picking up the documents on the table when Chen Dongsheng walked in with a smile, “Old Li, what’s the hurry? I haven’t even sat down yet, and you called me over.”

When he saw his daughter was also in the office, he smiled and asked, “Honghong, why are you here too?”

Chen Hong immediately stood up when she saw her father and greeted him with a smile, “Dad, Director Li asked me to come here.”

Li Chong glanced at Han Zhenyu and saw that he had no intention of speaking.

Then he smiled and said to Chen Dongsheng, “Old Chen, I may not be able to do what you asked me to. Zhenyu says he’s married.”

Upon hearing this, both father and daughter stood there as if struck by lightning.

Chen Hong’s face turned pale as she shook her head and muttered to herself, “Impossible, impossible, how could he be married? It’s obviously me he likes…”

Chen Dongsheng was furious. He stared at Han Zhenyu and demanded, “Since you’re married, why are you still hooking up with my Honghong? Do you know you’re being a hooligan? You should be shot.”

Han Zhenyu sneered, then stood up and walked in front of him. “Director Chen, you’re really good at talking nonsense. Your daughter and I don’t even know each other, but you say I’m dating her. Now that you know I’m married, you accuse me of having an affair with your daughter and call me a hooligan. You’re the one twisting right and wrong. I think you’re the real hooligan here.”

He looked at Chen Hong, whose eyes were red, and asked seriously, “Secretary Chen, we’ve only met a few times. Apart from one work contact, the rest were just polite greetings, and all of them were in public. I don’t think I’ve said or done anything inappropriate. So why are you saying I’m dating you?”

Chen Dongsheng was so angry he almost died, but he didn’t consider it his daughter’s wishful thinking. He believed it was Han Zhenyu who had seduced her.

“Honghong, what’s going on? Tell Dad and I’ll take care of it for you.”

Chen Hong was embarrassed and angry, her face turning red as tears welled up in her eyes.

She looked at Han Zhenyu pitifully, as if she were gazing at a heartless man.

Han Zhenyu looked at her affected expression with annoyance and said bluntly, “Secretary Chen, now in front of your father and my leader, tell me yourself, are all the words I just said true?”

Faced with his ruthless questioning, Chen Hong crouched there and cried in grievance.

Han Zhenyu had no mercy on her. He looked at her aggressively. “Secretary Chen, please don’t avoid responsibility. You must clear my name today.”

“How dare you!” Chen Dongsheng slammed the table and pointed at him, “Who do you think you are? How dare you question my daughter like that? If you didn’t give her a hint, how could she, with her innocent personality, say she wants to date you?”

Han Zhenyu looked at him and smiled sarcastically. “Director Chen, I don’t know whether your daughter is innocent or not, and I’m not interested in knowing. You can ask her yourself, have I hinted at her anything?”

Chen Dongsheng glanced at his daughter crouching there, and a vague realization began to form in his mind.

But Chen Dongsheng couldn’t admit it, so he felt a bit embarrassed.

Li Chong saw that the situation had been explained almost fully and was about to step out to smooth things over. But at that moment, Chen Hong suddenly lost her temper.

She looked at Han Zhenyu and angrily accused him, “Why didn’t you tell me earlier that you were married? Since you don’t like me and don’t want to be with me, why did you smile at me? You made me misunderstand!”

“What does it have to do with you whether I’m married or not? Why should I tell you?” Han Zhenyu felt this family was unreasonable and strange. It was impossible to explain things to them, so he wasn’t going to be polite anymore and started attacking them mercilessly.

“As for why I smiled at you, if you misunderstood, I can only apologize helplessly. Because when people greet me, I always give them a polite smile. If every woman were as self-indulgent as you, I’d probably have too many partners to count.”

Chen Hong choked up, and tears rolled down from the corners of her eyes.

Chen Dongsheng looked distressed and angry, speaking in an unhappy tone, “Don’t cry, such a person isn’t worth your tears. A country boy is only worthy of marrying a village girl. Let’s go.”

Li Chong sighed helplessly. He had originally wanted to mediate and resolve the matter as a misunderstanding. They all worked in the same factory, and he wanted to avoid awkwardness in the future.

But this father and daughter were truly confused and didn’t know how to back down even when a way out was offered.

There was also Han Zhenyu, who had never cared about trivial matters in the past but unexpectedly refused to give in this time.

Li Chong sent Chen Dongsheng and his daughter to the door and whispered a few words of advice, “Old Chen, now that the misunderstanding is cleared up, don’t take it to heart. I’ll tell Han Zhenyu later that this matter is over, and no one should mention it again in the future.”

Seeing that Chen Dongsheng still looked unhappy, Li Chong leaned in and said, “Think about it, if this becomes known to everyone, who would be most affected? The guy is already married, and he’s a man. If this gets out, he’ll have a bad reputation at best, but how will your daughter find a partner in the future?”

Chen Dongsheng narrowed his eyes and said nothing. Finally, he patted Li Chong on the shoulder twice and took his daughter back.

Li Chong returned to the office and immediately said to Han Zhenyu, “Are you here to apply for a permanent position today? Hurry up and bring the certificate over so I can sign and stamp it for you.”

Han Zhenyu understood what he meant and took out the household registration certificate issued by the team leader from his pocket.

“Submit the information to the Personnel Department now, and then transfer the food relationship and household registration, so as to avoid any unnecessary trouble,” Li Chong handed him the stamped certificate.

Han Zhenyu smiled and thanked him, “Thank you, Director. I’ll go right away.”

Li Chong glared at him and said reproachfully, “You too, why didn’t you just explain the misunderstanding? We’re all in the same factory, and we’ll see each other every day. Why make things so awkward? It’ll be so uncomfortable when we meet in the future.”

“Director, I know you are doing this for my own good,” Han Zhenyu looked at him and explained seriously. “But this kind of thing can’t be dragged out. If my attitude isn’t firm, Secretary Chen may continue to pester me in the future. I haven’t even spoken to her much, but her family has already made a big accusation against me. If I continue to care about their daughter, I’m afraid I won’t be able to clear myself from the blame, even if I jump into the Yellow River.”

Han Zhenyu hadn’t wanted to escalate things to this point. He had considered leaving a way out for future encounters. But after seeing what the father and daughter did, he felt it was unnecessary.

If you give face to people like them, they will only become more demanding, and you may not know what they’ll do next.

Li Chong waved his hand and said, “Hurry up and get it done to avoid any problems along the way.”

“Yes, Director, I’ll go now,” Han Zhenyu smiled and left the office.
