Chapter 64 : Relationships

Han Zhenyu left the transport team and rode his bicycle to a nearby supply and marketing cooperative.

He bought two packs of cigarettes and a bag of milk candy before heading to the Personnel Department to complete the formalities.

There were only three people sitting in the personnel department’s office, with the others absent.

Han Zhenyu walked to the front desk and politely asked, “Hello, sister. I’m from the transport team, here to handle the formalities for becoming a regular employee. Which leader should I look for?”

The middle-aged woman was initially indifferent, but her attitude softened when she heard he was from the transport team. “Did you bring all the necessary documents?” she asked.

“I have everything,” Han Zhenyu replied.

Knowing that she was the one to handle the paperwork, he smiled and placed his household registration certificate and a bag of White Rabbit candy on the table. “Thank you for your help, sister.”

The middle-aged woman glanced at the bag of candy, then skillfully picked up the cloth handbag on the table and covered it, concealing the candy. She then handed him a household registration acceptance letter. “Go to the office next door and ask Section Chief Qin to stamp the official seal, then take the certificate to transfer the grain and oil relationship.”

“Thank you, big sister,” Han Zhenyu said.

After leaving the Personnel Department, he immediately went to the office next door.

Only Section Chief Qin was in the office, and his attitude was kinder than the clerk’s in the previous room.

Before Han Zhenyu could even take out his cigarette, Section Chief Qin had already stamped his documents.

Han Zhenyu thanked him and was about to leave when Section Chief Qin smiled and joked, “Just now, your Director Li came over and told me to do it for you quickly and not to make things difficult. Who does that old guy think I am?”

“Chief Qin, you’re such an easy-going person, how could you possibly make things difficult for me? Our director definitely didn’t mean that. He likes to joke around with his good friends the most. Please don’t take it personally,” Han Zhenyu responded.

Section Chief Qin laughed and said, “Comrade, you’re quite good at talking. You’re better than that old guy.”

Han Zhenyu smiled and complimented him a few more times, then took the stamped documents and said, “Chief Qin, I won’t take up more of your time. Thank you so much for your help. I’ll buy you some local specialties next time I’m on a business trip.”

“That sounds great. Let me know when you leave, and I’ll give you the money and tickets,” Section Chief Qin replied, not bothering to be polite. He was also keen to make friends with him.

Even though Li Chong couldn’t come over to greet him, he wouldn’t make things difficult for Han Zhenyu.

This was because Section Chief Qin had handled the employment procedures for Han Zhenyu a year ago.

He still remembered that their factory had been recruiting two drivers at the time, with at least sixty or seventy people applying.

Most of them were children of factory cadres, and some had been introduced by other related units.

But in the end, the only people who got the job were a relative of the county party committee and Han Zhenyu, who had come from the countryside.

If someone were to say Han Zhenyu didn’t have any connections, even an idiot wouldn’t believe it.

But as for who was behind him, probably only Director Li of the transport team and Deputy Director Bai, who was in charge of the transport team, knew.

Therefore, Chief Qin of the Personnel Department, who was skilled at dealing with people, would never offend such a mysterious figure with connections.

When Han Zhenyu received the grain and oil notebook, it was almost time for work to end.

He went to Li Shaohua’s house to return the bicycle to him.

This bicycle was his wife’s dowry, and the couple treasured it like a prized possession.

Given their relationship, it was okay to borrow it occasionally for emergencies, but it wasn’t right to constantly use someone else’s things.

He thought to himself that he should probably buy a bicycle after all.

Now that he was ready to live a better life, he should get everything he needed.

Since he didn’t give Su Xieqiu a betrothal gift when they got married, he would give it to her now.

As soon as Han Zhenyu walked downstairs from the dormitory building, he saw Li Shaohua slowly coming down with a lunch box.

Li Shaohua was a little surprised to see him. “Aren’t you supposed to have four days off? Why are you here at the factory instead of staying at home with your wife?”

“I’m here to transfer the grain and oil relationship and return the bicycle to you,” Han Zhenyu said. Seeing that Li Shaohua looked like he had just woken up, he asked with a smile, “Did you not sleep all night?”

Li Shaohua looked at him with a proud expression and gestured to him, “Of course, brother can do it so many times a night.”

Seeing how proud he was, Han Zhenyu laughed and joked, “So you didn’t get out of bed today?”

“Get lost! Do you think I’m as useless as you?” Li Shaohua kicked him and scolded him with a smile, “I got up early this morning and took a nap at home.”

Han Zhenyu curled his lips in disdain, then handed the bicycle to him and said, “You can take it back yourself. I’m leaving now.”

Li Shaohua quickly stopped him and said, “We won’t need the bike these days. You can ride it back and come back when you get to work.”

Since he said so, Han Zhenyu didn’t bother to be polite. “Okay, I’ll ride it for a few more days. If you need it, just send someone to tell me, and I’ll bring it to you.”

“Don’t my father and uncle both have cars? If you need one, just ride theirs,” Li Shaohua said indifferently.

“You should go back quickly. You finally have a few days off. Stay at home and spend some time with your wife.”

As he spoke, he sighed. “It’s not easy for us drivers. We have to drive outside most of the year. When it’s dry, we die of drought. When it’s flooded, we die of floods. We suffer a lot and neglect our wives.”

Han Zhenyu heard that he talked about his wife eight out of ten times and didn’t want to listen anymore. He got on his bicycle and said, “I’m leaving now. Go eat now. You look so weak. Eat some more meat and vegetables so you can have the strength to work at night.”

Li Shaohua wanted to kick him, but Han Zhenyu had already ridden off on his bicycle.

He smiled and muttered, “You’re talking about me, getting so impatient. You went back so late yesterday, as if no one knew what you were doing. The red marks on your neck show how intense the fight was last night.”
