Chapter 65 : Ready to take revenge
It was almost dark when Han Zhenyu got home.
Han Lei, Sun Dashu, and Sun Dahan were preparing to leave.
Each of them held a dried fish in their hands, which Su Xieqiu had just given them.
“Brother Zhenyu, you’re back.”
Han Lei lifted the fish in his hand and smiled, “Sister-in-law said that you brought this back from your business trip, so let us take it home and try it.”
Han Zhenyu smiled and nodded, “Do you know how to prepare it?”
“Your wife told us that can soak it in water and steam it, or can braise it or stew it,” Sun Dahan said with a smile.
“You can also use it to stew tofu. I ate it once in the south, and it tasted really fresh.”
Han Zhenyu said to them, “Brother Sun, Leizi, Dashu, you’ve all worked hard during this period. Tell your families tomorrow, and have dinner here tonight. We can have a good chat together.”
“Okay.” The three of them didn’t try to be pretentious and readily agreed.
Sun Dashu joked about the story of Sun Dabishi and Zhang Quezi getting married.
“I don’t know how it happened that two young women fell into the river together and were bumped into by the two of them.”
Sun Dashu and Han Lei took turns telling the entire story from the two female educated youths falling into the water to their marriages to Sun Dabishi and Zhang Quezi.
Han Zhenyu didn’t respond but just listened to them with a smile.
The group was having so much fun that they forgot to head home.
If Sun Dahan’s wife hadn’t come over to call them, they might not have stopped talking for much longer.
Han Zhenyu had just sent the three of them to the main road when he saw his uncle and two cousins also preparing to leave.
Yan Daqiang and Yan Erqiang each held a bulging fertilizer bag, with something inside that no one knew about.
“Uncle, elder brother, second brother, let’s have dinner before you leave,” Han Zhenyu suggested.
“We’ve already eaten. We were afraid it would be unsafe on the road if we went back too late, so we didn’t wait for you,” Uncle Yan Guowei said as he walked. “Zhenyu, we’re leaving first.”
The three grown men were not afraid of walking at night, but they were cautious about encountering wild beasts coming down from the mountains.
Han Zhenyu nodded and warned, “Uncle, eldest brother, second brother, be careful on the road and pay attention to safety.”
“We will. You go back and have dinner. Grandpa and my uncle are still waiting for you,” Yan Daqiang said.
“Okay, I’ll go back now.”
Grandpa Du and Uncle Du were sitting in the room talking, while Su Xieqiu was sorting things beside them.
There was food on the table, including scrambled eggs with tomatoes, stewed vermicelli with kidney beans and meat slices, a plate of shredded potatoes with pickled peppers, and a pot of glutinous rice cooked with sorghum and rice.
When Han Zhenyu saw this heartwarming scene at the door, he felt a warm current spreading in his heart.
Grandpa Du smiled. “There’s water in the basin outside. Go wash your hands and have dinner.”
“Got it, Grandpa.” Han Zhenyu parked his bicycle at the door and washed up casually outside.
When he entered the room, Su Xieqiu had already started serving the rice.
The food was a little cold, but it was just right to eat since the weather was hot.
Han Zhenyu noticed two large bags under his grandfather’s bed, which were full of things, almost identical to what his two cousins had just taken away.
He asked, “Grandpa, what’s in those two bags under your bed?”
When Grandpa Du heard him, he looked confused and said, “Didn’t you bring those from outside? Your wife brought them this afternoon, and your uncle took away two bags.”
Han Zhenyu was very surprised. He quickly glanced at Su Xieqiu and saw that she secretly winked at him. He smiled and said to Grandpa Du, “Yes, I brought them back. I was too busy today and forgot about them.”
Uncle Du swallowed the food in his mouth and said helplessly, “Why did you buy so many things? You brought so many canned fish and meat yesterday, and your wife brought so many more today. How much money will it cost? You’ve spent all your salary. What will you do when you have a child in the future?”
Han Zhenyu didn’t know what was in the bag, so he could only answer vaguely, “Uncle, it won’t cost much.”
Afraid that his grandfather and uncle would continue asking questions, he quickly changed the subject and mentioned transferring his household registration.
“I’ve completed all the procedures today. I’ve also received the food and oil certificate. Starting next month, I’ll be receiving the salary of a regular employee.”
Grandpa Du said excitedly, “Okay, okay, it’s good that it’s done. From now on, my grandson will also be a city dweller and will no longer have to worry about not having food to eat.”
Maybe because he was too happy, tears even started to fall as he spoke.
Su Xieqiu put a piece of meat in his bowl and smiled, “Grandpa, I’ve heard that the treatment for urban residents is very good. You and grandma will get to enjoy the good life in the future. Han Zhenyu and I will be filial to you.”
“Good, good, good, you two are both good kids…” Grandpa Du looked at them and said several good things, smiling happily.
After dinner, Su Xieqiu took the dishes out to wash, and Han Zhenyu followed her to help.
Grandpa Du and Uncle Du watched the young couple washing the dishes outside and felt that they made a perfect match.
“If your sister knew about this in the afterlife, she would be able to rest in peace,” Grandpa Du said with red eyes.
Speaking of his second sister who passed away early, Uncle Du became very sad. He sighed and sat there in silence.
The two of them cleaned up the dishes, and seeing that it was getting late, Grandpa Du said he was tired and sent them back.
Han Zhenyu rode the bicycle with his feet on the ground and said to Su Xieqiu beside him, “Get on, I’ll take you.”
Su Xieqiu didn’t hesitate and sat down in the back seat, but she wasn’t sure where to put her hands.
Han Zhenyu waited for her to sit firmly and said without turning his head, “Hold on tight, don’t fall off.”
Su Xieqiu hadn’t ridden this kind of bicycle for a long time. After hearing what Han Zhenyu said, she asked blankly, “Where should I grab?”
When she realized what she had just said, she bit her lip awkwardly, quickly grabbed both sides of the rear of the bike, and said, “Okay, let’s go.”
Han Zhenyu held back his laughter and rode steadily back to the brigade headquarters.
Su Xieqiu took the key to open the door, lit the kerosene lamp, and went out with the casserole to boil water.
Han Zhenyu put his bicycle in the house and squatted in front of the makeshift stove to help light the fire.
Although neither of them spoke, the atmosphere was very warm, just like the starry night sky, which made people feel peaceful.
Han Zhenyu poured the boiled water into the wooden barrel, picked up his change of clothes, and said to Su Xieqiu, “I’m going to the river to wash. You can close the door, and you don’t have to wait for me.”
“Aren’t you coming back to sleep tonight?” Su Xieqiu asked him.
Han Zhenyu had already walked out of the room. “I’ll be back, but maybe a little late. I’m going to chat with Sun Dabishi and Zhang Quezi tonight. You go to sleep first. I’ll come back and ask you to open the door.”
“Then you better be careful.” Although Su Xieqiu knew that he was sensible, she still reminded him, “Just enough, don’t overdo it, otherwise, we’ll be in trouble.”
Han Zhenyu smiled and nodded, “I know, don’t worry, go to bed early.”
Su Xieqiu glanced at the tall figure at the door and said, “I can’t sleep that early. When you come back, just knock on the door and don’t stay outside.”
Han Zhenyu was about to leave, but after hearing her words, he paused for a moment and said in a low voice, “Okay, got it.”
