Chapter 78 : Two Months‘
When Han Zhenyu heard the rooster crowing at Sun Dahan’s house, he sat up from the bed.
Seeing that Su Xieqiu was sleeping soundly, he quietly opened the door and went to the new house.
They had built their house at the foot of a mountain, surrounded by barren wasteland with no crops grown.
Han Zhenyu greeted the team leader and handed over a few dollars to the team headquarters.
The team leader discussed it with the other team leaders and decided to enclose one acre of land for him, which included the yard and a private plot.
In fact, in the Northeast, such a yard isn’t considered large. If there are many people in the family, the yard alone might be more than one acre in size.
They built a total of four tiled houses. The easternmost one was the master bedroom, and there was also a small storage room inside.
The second room on the east was the main room, the next room was another large bedroom, and the one on the west was the kitchen.
The toilet and bathroom were built at the back, sharing a fire wall with the main room, so it wasn’t too cold to go to the toilet in winter.
Just as Grandpa Du had said, the house was perfect in every way, except that it used waste firewood in the winter.
Han Zhenyu went to the vegetable garden in the backyard, which occupied six mu of land.
A long thatched shed was built against the west wall to store firewood, and a vegetable cellar was dug next to the shed.
There was a well in the southeast corner. At the time, Grandpa Du and his uncle thought it would cost dozens of dollars to dig a well, so they disagreed.
But Han Zhenyu insisted on digging it. There were no wells nearby, and the nearest well was a five or six-minute walk from their home.
He often went on business trips and couldn’t take care of his family. He was worried that Su Xieqiu would have trouble using water, so after much thought, he decided to dig one at home.
He reasoned, it’s just a few dozen dollars, I can bring back more goods when I come back.
We’re not so poor that we can’t afford to eat, so why should I make my wife run so far to fetch water?
It’s fine in summer, but it’s too hard in winter, and he couldn’t bear it.
Han Zhenyu walked a few steps further inside and cleaned up the vegetable patch next to him.
Yesterday, Su Xieqiu had told him that his uncle had brought some vegetable seeds from home and planted them.
It was too late to plant other vegetables, so they could only plant one crop of greens before the snow arrived.
Looking at the tidy house, thinking about the woman in the house.
Han Zhenyu looked up at the starry sky and couldn’t help but smile. He felt that life was becoming more and more hopeful.
When Su Xieqiu woke up, it was just dawn, and the person in the bed next to her was gone.
She stretched and opened the door, feeling refreshed.
Seeing that the door to the new house was open, she quickly walked over.
There were two carts parked in the yard, and Han Zhenyu and Han Shengwen were carrying a large wardrobe into the house.
The voices of two men talking came from the main room. They should be Carpenter Han and his youngest son.
Han Zhenyu saw her coming and smiled, saying, “Get up, come and see where this big wardrobe should go.”
“Put it against the inner wall,” Su Xieqiu had already thought of these things and hurried over to give instructions.
She had custom-made two large wardrobes and two kang cabinets, one for each of their bedrooms.
There were also several cabinets for storing things in the main room and kitchen.
Along with the table, benches, and cabinet that Han Zhenyu bought from Carpenter Han’s house last time, the furniture was basically complete.
Carpenter Han and his two sons looked at the tidy courtyard and praised, “Zhenyu, you really built a nice house.”
Han Zhenyu sighed and said helplessly, “Uncle, my grandfather was so angry when he saw that I was kicked out that he said he would build me a few tiled houses, even if he had to borrow money to save face. My younger uncle and my eldest uncle borrowed money from everywhere, and I also took a year’s salary advance from the factory to build this house. It looks good now, but after so many famines, we’ll have to tighten our belts in the future.”
This was what the couple said to the outside world, and they were also afraid that someone would suspect where their money came from.
Carpenter Han heard about their family’s affairs, but he was not a talkative man. He sighed, comforted Han Zhenyu with a few words, and then left with his two sons.
Su Xieqiu looked at the large handmade wardrobe made of solid wood and was extremely impressed.
She had asked that the furniture not be painted, so the only smell was of wood.
Han Zhenyu walked in and asked her puzzledly, “Shengwen said you didn’t want me to paint it. Don’t you like the color?”
Su Xieqiu smiled and nodded, “I think the original wood is good.”
Only then did she remember that the furniture in Han Zhenyu’s room was also made according to her own preferences.
She immediately apologized, “I’m sorry, I forgot to ask you. If you want to paint it, let Han Shengwen help you repaint it.”
Han Zhenyu didn’t say anything. He stared at her for a while before asking, “Are we going to sleep in separate rooms forever?”
Su Xieqiu blinked, and when she realized what he said, her face suddenly turned red.
She turned her face away and said awkwardly, “Didn’t you say we should try to understand it first? It hasn’t been long yet.”
Han Zhenyu felt a little embarrassed when he asked this question.
But looking at Su Xieqiu’s blushing face, he couldn’t help but curl up the corners of his lips.
He coughed and explained, “I’m not impatient, I just want to say that if we always sleep separately, it’s not conducive to cultivating our relationship.”
After Han Zhenyu finished speaking, he felt that it would be better not to give this explanation.
This made him seem more anxious, and it gave the impression that he had bad intentions.
Su Xieqiu’s face turned red again after hearing what he said.
Although she had never been in a relationship, she wasn’t too conservative about these things, and she did like this man a little.
She raised her head and quickly glanced at Han Zhenyu, bit her lip and thought for a while, then said, “How about we try for another two months? If neither of us has any objections, we can live together in the future.”
As soon as Su Xieqiu finished speaking, Han Zhenyu immediately said, “Okay, just two months.”
It seemed that if he spoke too slowly, Su Xieqiu would regret it.
After the date was set for two months, the atmosphere in the room became even more awkward.
Su Xieqiu touched her hair and said, “I’m going to cook.”
Han Zhenyu smiled and said, “I’ve already done it.”
Seeing that Su Xieqiu didn’t move, he breathed a sigh of relief and suddenly grabbed her hand and said, “Let’s go eat, and then we can go shopping in the city together.”
Su Xieqiu nodded, thinking that their behavior was quite funny and a little childish.
She hadn’t expected that she would come here and have a pure love affair with such a man.
But it felt pretty good.
