Chapter 28

A two-timing scumbag!

In life, it’s hard to find someone who truly understands you.

If you meet someone you like and who likes you back, that’s very rare.

So Zhou Zhou didn’t understand why Chi Yao and Wei Chengyuan, who clearly love each other, didn’t just be together.

Chi Yao was a sad case.

Her father was a police officer who died on duty. Then her mother remarried someone else.

Her grandparents died early, and her father’s relatives only wanted the house and money. No one really cared for her.

Later, Wei Yan, who was also a police officer, took her in.

Wei Chengyuan was her official older brother.

But they weren’t related by blood. Chi Yao was very outstanding, and Wei’s parents treated her like a treasure. They wouldn’t say no if the two wanted to be together. So Zhou Zhou didn’t know why they wasted so many years.

“You ask me? Who else can I ask?” Chi Yao felt frustrated.

She confessed her feelings first and even kissed him, but didn’t get the same strong kiss back.

She didn’t understand, but she felt Wei Chengyuan liked her. Otherwise, why would he be rich and good-looking but never have a girlfriend for so many years?

“You’re not young anymore. After the new year, you have to think about whether to stay in the northwest, come back, or go to Wenchang. I think you should talk to your brother clearly.”

“Oh…” Chi Yao answered casually.

“You say I’m confused, but now you’re the one ignoring me when it’s your turn,” Zhou Zhou said.

Seeing Chi Yao still busy eating, Zhou Zhou sighed, “I haven’t met someone I like. You like him so much and have waited so long — will you keep waiting?”

No matter how good Wei Chengyuan was, in her heart, he wasn’t worth Chi Yao’s long wait.

A girl’s youth lasts only a few years — wasting it on someone not worth it is sad.

Chi Yao just smiled and said, “Okay, okay, you’re so naggy. Now tell me, how are things with Cheng Yanran?”

Zhou Zhou saw Chi Yao changing the subject and felt both annoyed and amused.

They were close friends for many years. Even though one was in Germany and the other in the northwest for a few years, they talked every couple of days and shared everything — things they couldn’t even tell their parents.

About Cheng Yanran, Zhou Zhou said directly, “I don’t know. Anyway, I don’t dislike him. He’s a nice person.”

“Hehe, then there’s hope.”

Both laughed.

After eating and drinking, the two girls went to the nearby mall to shop for clothes.

They checked the usual stores but didn’t find anything they liked. Then they went to a slightly more expensive fashion store.

Chi Yao tried two coats and they fit well. Excited, she tried on pants and liked those too.

Zhou Zhou liked a bright rose-red short coat. She usually wore black, white, and gray clothes, so this bright color felt special and made her want it.

“The color looks great with your fair skin. Pair it with a white sweater, and it’ll look really nice,” the clerk said.

Zhou Zhou didn’t need much convincing — she bought clothes by feeling, and if she liked something at first sight, she bought it.

She tried off her coat, and the bright color did make her look younger. She picked a knitted sweater and asked the clerk to wrap them up.

Chi Yao finished trying on clothes too and happily said, “Please pack these two coats, the pants, the shirt, and the shoes I tried earlier.”

“Sure! Please wait a moment,” the clerk said happily.

This bill came to about 40,000 to 50,000 yuan — more than a day’s work for the clerk. No wonder she was happy.

“Xiaochuan, I want to tell you about that beige shirt…” Chi Yao started.

Before she could finish, her voice stopped like something stuck in her throat.

Zhou Zhou followed her gaze toward the store entrance and saw a handsome man and beautiful woman coming in.

The woman wore a white branded skirt suit and red high heels. The man looked cold and serious, wearing glasses. Who else could it be but Wei Chengyuan?

Zhou Zhou saw the woman holding Wei Chengyuan’s arm closely. She wanted to slap herself twice, and also slap Chen Jing and Cheng Yanran once each.

The woman said softly, “Chengyuan, I’m just looking at clothes. Wait for me here.”

Wei Chengyuan saw Zhou Zhou too, but only glanced once and then looked at Chi Yao behind her.

Zhou Zhou thought there would be shock, confusion, and anger in their eyes, but Chi Yao acted like she didn’t see anything and said, “Check out.”

Wei Chengyuan ignored the woman beside him and walked quickly over, surprised, “Ayao, when did you come back?”

Chi Yao ignored him and took out her phone to pay with Alipay.

The woman who had gone to look at clothes returned, saw Wei Chengyuan greeting the beautiful girl warmly, changed her face, and asked warily, “Chengyuan, who’s this?”

Chi Yao paid and shouted to Zhou Zhou, “Sis, why just stand there? Help carry these.”

“Coming.” Zhou Zhou felt confused and annoyed but pretended not to hear their conversation.

“Why didn’t you tell me when you came back?” Wei Chengyuan asked again.

“Chengyuan, who is she? Your ex?” the woman asked.

“Go pick out clothes. This is none of your business,” Wei Chengyuan pulled the woman aside.

Chi Yao didn’t look at them, still smiling and said to Zhou Zhou, “Buy those two things together. It’s rare to find something you like.”

Zhou Zhou helped carry the things, not knowing what to say, only smiled awkwardly.

“Let’s go, Xiaochuan. The air in here is so stuffy it makes me want to puke. Let’s go out.” Then she said to Wei Chengyuan, “Hey, could you please move?”

There were only four customers in the store: the two girls, Wei Chengyuan, and the woman. That was as clear as possible, making the woman’s face turn pale with anger.

Wei Chengyuan still blocked their way and stared at Chi Yao deeply. She ignored him, pushed him aside, and pulled Zhou Zhou away.

They left behind a graceful figure and a swinging ponytail.

But Zhou Zhou could feel the fierce anger like an ocean beneath Chi Yao’s smile.

Zhou Zhou felt annoyed and resentful — annoyed she brought up Wei Chengyuan at dinner, now being proven wrong, and resentful toward Wei Chengyuan. He already had a girlfriend, so if he wasn’t going to wait for Chi Yao, why did he still mess with her?

A two-timing scumbag!

After cursing Wei Chengyuan silently, she thought about Chen Jing and Cheng Yanran, who had helped Wei Chengyuan keep a good reputation, and took out her anger on them too.

No matter what, her feet still had to follow Chi Yao’s fast steps.

Chi Yao was five centimeters taller than Zhou Zhou, about 1.65 meters, with very long legs. Poor Zhou Zhou was carrying many bags, panting as she followed behind.

They reached the mall’s sixth-floor rooftop.

This floor had bars with outdoor views, lights flashing, and soft music — very romantic.

In summer, it was crowded, with stars above and busy traffic below. But it was autumn now, and the cold wind made people feel very awake.

Zhou Zhou saw Chi Yao sit on the grass, knowing she wouldn’t move far, so she found a small rattan chair nearby and sat down.

They didn’t talk. Both silently looked at the night sky.
