Because of a single comment left on the official Jian Jia website, where most users were fans of Mu Wan, a call to action arose, and everyone stormed over to the streaming platform for Travel The World.
At first, everyone watched with smiles, amused by how the group used their spare funds to attend a music concert and even performed the challenging The Beauty Walk. Everything seemed normal until the end, when the five participants said their goodbyes to the camera.
Most viewers didn’t sense anything amiss until after the credits rolled, and a line of text appeared:
> “After the trip to New York, we discovered a missing camera.”
> “When we contacted the innkeeper, the camera was mailed back to us. We found an unexpected recording on it.”
What followed was footage of the hallway in their accommodations. Initially, viewers wondered why anyone would care about a hallway. Then came the sound of Fang Li’s muffled sobs, accompanied by Zhou Yang, Zhong Yi, and Li Shuqin leaning against her door, listening.
– “What’s happening? Is that drama queen causing trouble again? Even the production team couldn’t stand it and decided to expose her?”
– “Mosi Entertainment, go to hell!”**
– “What’s this about?!”
– “Watch it, and you’ll understand.”
In the recording, Fang Li’s choked voice could be heard:
“My manager said that bad publicity is still publicity. They told me to pretend I lost our extra funds to create a commotion.”
“But Mu Wan, you were so excited. I didn’t want to disappoint you, so I didn’t follow her instructions. Now she’s threatening to blacklist me.”
“…I’ve followed all her other directives. I practice my dance routines late into the night every day. All I want is to stand on stage.”
The video then showed Mu Wan softly comforting Fang Li, followed by the trio outside discussing strategies before entering the room and working together to come up with a plan.
– “Ugh, Mosi Entertainment is the worst! So despicable! Fang Li didn’t follow orders once because she didn’t want to let Mu Wan down, and they’re threatening to blacklist her? Unbelievable!”
– “I was a fan of Mu Wan and used to hate Fang Li. I even thought Mu Wan was being overly kind to her. But now I see I was wrong. Fang Li is a sweetheart too!”
– “All five of them are such good people, genuinely doing everything they can to help Fang Li.”
– “No wonder Fang Li’s gained so much attention from this show but hasn’t had any follow-up activities. Turns out she’s being shelved.”
– “Maybe she’s gone back to school? Mu Wan’s suggestion to take a civil service exam and break free from Mosi Entertainment sounds pretty solid.”**
– “If she can work so hard late into the night on her dancing, she’ll succeed no matter what she does.”
Enraged viewers flooded Mosi Entertainment’s official website, demanding answers and accusing the company of inhumane behavior. Fans of other idols under Mosi Entertainment also began questioning their idols about whether Fang Li’s claims were true.
Within half an hour, hashtags related to the controversy dominated trending topics, creating a tidal wave of backlash:
– #MosiEntertainmentGarbage
– #MuWanFangLiTravelTheWorld
– #TheBeautyWalk
– #TravelTheWorldDirectorGoesHard
– #MosiEntertainmentLawsuit
In response to the public outrage, Mosi Entertainment released an official statement with two legal claims:
1. Suing Travel The World for intentionally broadcasting material that damaged Mosi’s Entertainment reputation, demanding the show be taken down and an apology issued.
2. Suing Fang Li for violating her contract’s confidentiality clause, seeking financial compensation.
The producer of Travel The World, Zhuang Xian, responded confidently:
“The contract clearly states that all footage from the trip is owned by the production team and may be used for editing and broadcasting. Since the recording occurred during the seventh day of travel, the show has not violated the agreement.”
“As for damaging Mosi Entaintenment’s reputation? We’re willing to pay damages but will not apologize. Feel free to sue us.”
Mosi Entertainment, a small, struggling company, had little leverage against Zhuang Xian, a top-tier producer backed by one of the leading entertainment companies in the industry. It was a case of David versus Goliath, with Mosi standing no chance.
However, some people worried that Zhuang Xian’s actions, while boosting ratings for the show, had put Fang Li in a precarious position. With her contract still binding her to Mosi Entertainment, the company now had knowledge of her plans to leave, effectively cutting off her escape route.
Just as netizens were speculating about how much Fang Li might have to pay in damages, one of the nation’s top law firms issued a statement:
> “@MosiEntertainmentOfficial, we are the legal representatives of Ms. Fang Li. Your claim that she violated her confidentiality clause is invalid, as this footage clearly does not constitute standard filming and lacks malicious intent from our client.
> Additionally, evidence of workplace bullying by your manager—including screenshots of WeChat conversations—demonstrates that you coerced Ms. Fang Li into using self-sabotaging methods to generate publicity. Please provide an explanation.”
– “Wow, Mosi Entertainment messed with the wrong person. They’ve hit a brick wall with Mu Yun’s legal team!”
– “People previously dug into Mu Wan’s background and found out her brother owns Mu Yun Group. Mu Wan is amazing!”
– “Some haters were saying Mu Wan is so rich, why doesn’t she just pay Fang Li’s penalty fees? That’s ridiculous. Even the best of friends shouldn’t be overly entangled financially. And why should they give money to a trash company like Mosi Entertainment?”
– “Let’s not forget, they only spent seven days together on the show. In seven days, Mu Wan and the others did all this for Fang Li. The other four cast members truly are living saints, carefully chosen by the director.”
