ST’s support arrived a moment too late, furious and determined to avenge their teammate. They flashed directly into the enemy jungle, only to be ambushed by the opposing team’s heroes and jungle monsters, resulting in their demise.
Mu Wan: “???”
She set down her chopsticks abruptly, staring incredulously at the screen. She then watched as the opposing team bypassed ST’s defenses, entered ST’s jungle, and ran into their jungler, O Lan. Wiped out!
O Lan earned his first pentakill in his professional career!
Mu Wan felt like she had stepped into an alternate dimension. Or was it that the global championship required such dramatic antics to win?
“Ah Ye, what is this performance?”
And a performance where the performers die more often than the audience might expect.
Kuang Ye rubbed his nose, looking a bit embarrassed. “The team ST is up against is also from the LPL. This year’s HW tournament format is a bit problematic. Whoever wins this match will face last year’s Global champion team in the finals.”
Mu Wan: “So, everyone is putting on this show hoping the other team will win, to avoid facing them in the finals right away?”
Kuang Ye nodded. This wasn’t match-fixing, per se—more like a strategic decision. Since both teams had already secured their spots in the finals, retreating now was a way to go further later. While it might earn some ridicule, that didn’t matter compared to the championship.
The only issue was that showing this kind of “cowardly” play in front of his girlfriend felt terribly embarrassing.
Mu Wan, amused by his slightly anxious expression, laughed. “So even the great Wild God gets nervous sometimes. Don’t worry, I won’t make fun of you.”
“You’re the ones on the battlefield. No matter what strategy you choose, I’ll support you.”
Kuang Ye hugged Mu Wan and showered her with kisses. His girlfriend was just the best!!!
Mu Wan then remembered his hand injury and asked, “When will you start treatment?”
Kuang Ye replied, “Tomorrow!”
The sooner he got treated, the sooner he could return to the battlefield.
—
The next day, Mu Wan accompanied Kuang Ye back to the unassuming clinic. Having called Dr. Kuang Honghe in advance, all the tools for the treatment were ready.
While Kuang Ye was undergoing treatment, Mu Wan sat nearby, using her tablet to manage work for Jian Jia.
The traditional Chinese medicine clinic was mostly frequented by elderly people, who weren’t familiar with internet fame. Seeing Mu Wan’s pretty face, they eagerly struck up a conversation.
“Young lady, why are you here seeing a doctor so young? Let me tell you, the doctor here is amazing. I used to have such a bad shoulder that I couldn’t stand up straight. One needle from them, and it was cured.”
Out of courtesy, Mu Wan nodded. “Yes, my mom introduced me to Dr. Kuang, saying he’s excellent.”
“Absolutely! Dr. Kuang treated me too,” one elderly woman exclaimed, which sparked excitement among the waiting grandmothers. They began chatting away, asking Mu Wan about her age and job, overwhelming her with their enthusiasm.
When one grandma finally revealed her true motive—asking if Mu Wan had a boyfriend—the office curtain was suddenly drawn back. Kuang Ye emerged with a grin and addressed the elderly women.
“Dear grandmas, she’s my girlfriend, here to accompany me for treatment, so there’s no need to play matchmaker.”
The grandmas were visibly disappointed.
Kuang Ye added with a mischievous grin, “But our company has a few single guys, all young and making six-figure salaries. Do you have any girls to introduce?”
Upon hearing “six-figure salaries,” the grandmas’ eyes lit up. However, their standards for the men were much stricter.
“How young are they exactly? And does the salary include insurance and benefits?”
“I have a group for single people in S City. What’s their education level? They can join and meet other young people—more options that way!”
“What about someone who’s 18, with just a high school diploma but earns six figures? Can they join?”
Mu Wan: “…”
She glared at Kuang Ye discreetly. Couldn’t he just stick to teasing Shen Lele?
The grandmas weren’t being malicious; they just loved matchmaking and bringing people together. And they didn’t even charge a fee to join their group!
Hearing Kuang Ye’s pitch, the grandmas’ enthusiasm quickly waned. One mumbled, “Eighteen years old, high school diploma, six-figure salary…”
The rest exchanged glances and then collectively took a few steps back. They weren’t about to introduce such a person to the nice young ladies in their group.
Kuang Ye: “Not this one? I have more single guys. Want to hear about someone else?”
The grandmas shook their heads vigorously. “No, no, no.”
One grandma pointed at Mu Wan and began earnestly lecturing Kuang Ye.
“You have such a wonderful girlfriend—tall and beautiful. Get a proper job instead of fooling around all day!”
This opened the floodgates, and the others joined in.
“That’s right! The government is cracking down on gang activity. Who knows when you might end up in trouble?”
“Tell your brothers to turn over a new leaf too. Once they’ve reformed, we’ll consider introducing them to some nice girls.”
Kuang Ye: “???”
Wait, were their matchmaking instincts so strong they thought I was recruiting thugs into the dating pool?!
Mu Wan stood off to the side, laughing quietly. Look at you, Shrimp Boy, caught in your own net!
