Mu Wan didn’t dare admit that this video was originally meant to embarrass Kuang Ye. She lowered her head and explained, “Xingran sent this video to me. I found it a bit strange, so I decided to investigate further.”
“I remembered that Ah Ye’s family had already erased most of his past online records.”
Hearing this, Tang Ce didn’t ask further and pointed to the video. “This is clearly footage from a surveillance camera, but the resolution has been enhanced—especially Kuang Ye’s face, which has been carefully retouched.”
He glanced worriedly at Kuang Ye. “Could this be from one of your haters? They might be trying to get you banned by posting this old footage of you fighting.”
Kuang Ye: “…”
Probably not, but why did Wan Wan seem a little guilty just now when talking about this video?
Narrowing his eyes slightly, he asked Tang Ce, “Did you only trace the upload path, or did you check the uploader’s IP address too?”
Tang Ce shook his head. “That account only posted this one video and deleted it shortly afterward. It hasn’t logged in since, so there’s no way to track the IP.”
Mu Wan also felt that this wasn’t as simple as a hater posting the video. She turned to Tang Ce. “Could you keep monitoring the account for me? If they log in again, record the IP address. I’ll pay you for your efforts.”
Tang Ce wanted to say there was no need for payment since Kuang Ye was his friend. But before he could, Kuang Ye grabbed Mu Wan’s hand and playfully said, “Wan wan, I’m a computer science graduate too. I can handle tracing an IP. I won’t take money—just a kiss will do.”
Mu Wan: “…”
She glanced at Tang Ce, who was still standing awkwardly nearby, utterly mortified.
Tang Ce couldn’t stand the cheesiness either and downed his tea like a bull. “I have a meeting this afternoon, so I’ll head out first.”
Grabbing his briefcase, he opened the door without looking back, muttering under his breath, “Show-offs. As if no one else has a girlfriend.”
Mu Wan’s ears reddened slightly. She waited until Tang Ce was completely gone before scolding Kuang Ye, “You’re getting shameless!”
Kuang Ye grinned. The third wheel was gone, so he could enjoy a private date with his wife.
—
Afterward, the two spent a simple yet wonderful day together, watching a movie and having a candlelit dinner.
When they returned to the apartment, Mu Wan prepared to take a relaxing bath. Kuang Ye resisted the temptation to join her and instead grabbed his phone to message Tang Ce.
[At the tea house earlier, you stopped mid-sentence. Besides audio files, what else has my wife asked you to investigate?]
[…]
A few seconds later:
[After lending you money to start your business, I lived on instant noodles for a week. Even the airfare for my weekly trips to D Country for treatment was covered by my manager.]
[…]
A few minutes later:
[Wan wan already told me. I’m not that petty. I thought it was something serious.]
[?? Wan wan told you she often asked me to look into Kuang Shuyu’s scandals?]
Kuang Ye: …
He wanted to slap himself. Why did I ask? Are you happy now?
Tang Ce sent another wave of messages:
[I saw the recent trending news too. That Kuang Shuyu guy is a piece of work.]
[You’re so much better than him. Wan wan made the right choice picking you.]
[Wait, Kuang Shuyu? Kuang Ye? What a coincidence, you even share the same surname!]
[I heard Kuang Shuyu was the eldest son of the wealthy Kuang family, but he turned out to be a fake because of a mix-up at birth.]
[Wan wan used to be engaged to him, but wait—doesn’t that mean the real eldest son is…?]
[Wan wan was engaged to Kuang Shuyu before and now to you…]
[Holy crap! Kuang Ye, are you the real Kuang family heir?!]
[??? Where are you? Answer me!]
Tang Ce even sent a voice call, but the phone vibrated on the coffee table unanswered.
After a while, Tang Ce finally put two and two together.
[Damn it, Kuang Ye! You tricked me! Wan wan never told you!]
—
When Mu Wan emerged from her bath, her face was flushed from the steam. The moment she opened the door, she was startled to find Kuang Ye standing there.
His strikingly handsome face was inches away, his eyes dark and intense, with one hand hidden behind his back.
Mu Wan: “?? What are you doing here? Weren’t you going to use the downstairs bathroom?”
Kuang Ye typically didn’t take baths, opting for quick showers unless it was a special occasion—like bathing together with Mu Wan… Ahem!
Images of those occasions flitted through Mu Wan’s mind, turning her freshly steamed face an even deeper shade of red.
Kuang Ye’s gaze grew darker. He raised a mischievous smile. “Jiejie, I have a gift for you.”
Mu Wan: “What is it?”
Feigning mystery, he said, “Close your eyes first.”
Since Kuang Ye often played these little surprise tricks, Mu Wan didn’t suspect anything.
But as soon as a black blindfold covered her eyes, she felt herself being led into the warm bedroom and gently pushed onto the bed, her hands raised above her head.
Mu Wan suddenly felt that these movements seemed… familiar.
Then came the sound of a metallic click.
The unmistakable noise of handcuffs snapping into place.
Mu Wan froze. “Kuang Ye, what are you—”
