Mu Wan had no idea that Kuang Ye had discovered the medication she kept in her bag. She had secretly picked it up during work hours from the hospital. It was initially meant to be a precaution, but earlier, when her emotions became overwhelming, she had taken one to calm herself, fearing that Kuang Ye might notice something was wrong when he returned.
So, a few nights later, when Kuang Ye told her he wanted to take her somewhere, she was a little puzzled.
“Where to? Aren’t you working overtime tonight?” she asked.
Lately, Kuang Ye had been working overtime a lot, seemingly because of the upcoming Spring Tournament, which kept the team busy.
Kuang Ye blinked at her. “I’ve already handled the overtime tasks. Jiejie, are you coming or not?”
Mu Wan raised an eyebrow. “…I’ll go!” She was curious to see what this cheeky younger brother was up to now.
Half an hour later, Kuang Ye brought Mu Wan to an ordinary apartment building near Chenghuan No. 1 High School and handed her a key.
“This is my secret space, and also the address on my household registration. Lady of the house, would you like to step inside?”
Mu Wan looked at the key in his palm. In an age dominated by smart locks, this old-fashioned key carried an unexpected sense of romance. Her heart stirred, and her eyes widened slightly.
“Ah Ye, you…”
Kuang Ye held her hand. “There are some things better said inside.”
Despite having a sense of what might happen, Mu Wan’s breath still hitched when she opened the door and saw the vibrant red roses illuminated by warm lights.
The apartment was a modest three-bedroom unit, decorated cozily with warm tones of lighting. But that wasn’t the focus.
What caught her attention was that every wall in the apartment was adorned with photos of her. Some were pictures she had posted on her social media, but many more were screenshots from video recordings. Every outfit from every competition she had participated in since she turned fifteen was captured here.
“This place was the first thing I bought with my initial signing bonus,” Kuang Ye said softly.
“Even later, when money was tight, I never considered selling it.”
“Because this house contains all the memories of you that I’ve cherished over the years.”
“When I first started competing, I wasn’t some legendary player. I was just a rookie in esports, losing more games than I won.”
“Every time I lost, I’d come here. This place became like a spring where I could refill my energy, recharge, and step out feeling completely renewed.”
He pointed to a photo of a young Mu Wan on stage playing the violin, her face full of innocence.
“This was the first time I saw you play on stage. I was amazed—how could someone so beautiful, with such an incredible sound, exist in this world?”
“The quality’s a bit blurry, right? I borrowed my internet café boss’s phone to take this picture because I didn’t have any money at the time. It took me three months to save enough to buy a recording of that competition.”
He then pointed to another photo of Mu Wan in her school uniform, standing in a crowd.
“This was from your school’s Top Ten Singers contest. You were accompanying Xingran on the piano, and the photo made it into the newspaper. I cut it out.”
“And this one was taken by Fu Zeyuan. He didn’t do a great job—he made you look bad. I didn’t dare let you find out, so I didn’t ask him to retake it.”
“And this one…”
Kuang Ye introduced each photo like a treasure, his smile growing wider with every word, the love in his eyes growing deeper.
Through his words, he showed Mu Wan the depth and intensity of his love—profound, enduring, and unwavering.
By this time, Mu Wan’s face was drenched in tears. Just when she thought Kuang Ye couldn’t love her any more deeply, he would surprise her again, drawing her further into his devotion.
Kuang Ye gazed at her and pulled out a ring from his pocket. Dropping to one knee, his eyes were filled with boundless affection.
“Wan wan, you are the brightest rose on my barren land and the most beautiful scenery on my life’s journey. I want to spend my life with you, to grow old together. Will you let me marry you?”
Tears streamed down Mu Wan’s face as love and emotion intertwined within her. She extended her right hand, her voice choked yet firm.
“Of course, I will. Kuang Ye, I love you.”
