Jiang Fan’s face briefly showed a hint of displeasure, but since the two left quickly, it would be undignified to chase after them, so he let it go and left first.
After leaving the concert hall, Mu Wan took Chu Xiao Yin to a nearby local cuisine restaurant. Seeing Chu Xiao Yin still dazed and not fully back to her senses, Mu Wan got straight to the point.
“Don’t believe that agent’s nonsense. Zhuo Xing is not a good place.”
After returning home last time, she had used some connections to look into Zhuo Xing and discovered that it was a terrible company. The organization was rife with bullying among its members, and they made most of their money from musicians’ breach-of-contract penalties. Mu Wan realized why the name had sounded familiar—it was because, in her previous life, three months before her death, a female musician signed to Zhuo Xing had exposed a scandal on Weibo about the company forcing its artists to engage in illicit activities.
By then, she had long stopped playing the violin, but out of habit, she still followed the classical music industry. Thinking of Jiang Fan’s gaze constantly drifting toward her face during their last encounter, Mu Wan felt disgusted.
Chu Xiao Yin let out a startled “Huh?” and finally snapped out of her shock over the goddess holding her hand. She asked cautiously, “What’s wrong with Zhuo Xing?”
Mu Wan was blunt. “Bullying. Coercion. Forcing musicians into illicit activities. Otherwise, they aren’t allowed to perform.”
With every word, Chu Xiao Yin’s face turned paler. She didn’t think Mu Wan would lie to her; after all, Mu Wan was her idol and had no reason to deceive her. Feeling a wave of fear, Chu Xiao Yin gripped Mu Wan’s hand tightly, her eyes filled with tears.
“Goddess, thank you! Otherwise, I might have been tricked!”
Mu Wan: “…” What goddess?
Chu Xiao Yin explained sheepishly, “You’re really popular in the violin circle. The first complete piece I learned was your rendition of Canon. Of course, you’re my goddess.”
A goddess who played beautifully, was stunningly attractive, and had a kind heart—she was practically a divine idol.
Seeing Chu Xiao Yin’s increasingly adoring gaze, Mu Wan suddenly understood a bit of the embarrassment Kuang Ye must feel when people called him “Wild God.” Clearing her throat, she changed the subject, “Let’s eat first!”
Chu Xiao Yin was a cheerful and outgoing girl who proactively struck up conversations with Mu Wan. Bit by bit, Mu Wan started to think that having a friend in the music world wasn’t a bad idea after all.
When they parted ways, Mu Wan went to pay the bill, but Chu Xiao Yin immediately pulled out her phone. “Goddess, let’s add each other on WeChat. I’ll split the bill with you.”
Mu Wan was momentarily surprised but then smiled. “Alright. And just call me Wan wan!”
—
Back home, Mu Wan immediately opened her bedroom computer and searched for ST. She quickly entered a gaming livestream. Kuang Ye had a match today. Because she had spent some time advising Chu Xiao Yin earlier, the match had already started. Mu Wan put on her headphones, and the commentator’s voice filled her ears.
“Looking at ST’s lineup this game, it seems they’re going for a jungle-core strategy—using the jungler to target the opponent’s carries and suppress their economy, aiming to end the game before the enemy scales up.”
“However, it must be said that this approach is quite aggressive in professional play. If they fail to dominate early on…”
First blood!
“ST’s Qintu secures the first kill! A brilliant play—invading the enemy jungle to harass, then feigning retreat to bait the enemy ADC out of the tower, taking the kill and recalling with low health.”
“The support’s recall timing was impeccable. A second later, and the jungler would’ve been done for.”
“ST’s synergy between their jungler and support is as strong as ever.”
The live chat exploded with excitement from ST fans.
[Of course! Kuang Ye and Xu Yijin have been teammates for four years. How could they not have good synergy?]
[ST is awesome!]
Fans of the opposing team weren’t happy:
[You’re celebrating all night over one First Kill? Just wait until you lose later, and don’t regret it.]
[Jungle-core strategies have obvious weaknesses. As long as we play safe under the tower and focus on farming, their squishy lineup will fall apart in the late game.]
Double Kill!
ST’s jungler encountered the enemy jungler in a narrow corridor and crushed them!
ST fans erupted in excitement:
[Trying to solo the Wild God? Are you crazy?]
[The enemy team was already on their way to help, but it was too late—the Wild God killed him too quickly.]
[Wild God is insane!]
Mu Wan had never watched a professional esports match before. When she played games casually, she never had the opportunity to see Kuang Ye’s perspective, so she couldn’t imagine how he managed to eliminate an opponent in less than three seconds.
In HW, a hero typically has four abilities, excluding passives, which require precise keyboard input to execute. Since targeting is also needed, players usually control the keyboard with their left hand and the mouse with their right. Any misstep—whether pressing the wrong key or missing the target with the mouse—could render the ability ineffective.
“This reaction speed and skill precision are unreal.”
Only someone who has actually played the game would understand that being an esports pro isn’t just about being “good at games,” as some outsiders dismissively say. Like professional athletes, it requires relentless practice, natural talent, and sheer determination.
Ace!
“The WN team has been wiped out! Qintu secures the Baron! ST capitalizes on this and takes down the inhibitor turret, advancing toward WN’s Nexus!”
“WN’s heroes are starting to respawn!”
“The tension is palpable.”
“Will WN miraculously defend their Nexus and turn the game around, or will ST push through in this wave and claim victory?”
[Attack the Nexus! WN only has a support respawned—they can’t stop this.]
[Hurry up! In three seconds, WN’s entire team will respawn!]
Mu Wan was just as excited as the people in the livestream chat. She leaned forward, gripping her mouse, unconsciously clicking along as if she were part of the game.
Victory!
With the sound of the enemy Nexus shattering, the large Victory icon appeared on the screen.
“Let’s congratulate the ST team on their victory!”
Mu Wan finally exhaled a long breath, feeling more exhilarated watching this match than playing games herself.
The regular match was a best-of-three series, and ST had secured the final win.
In the livestream footage, Kuang Ye removed his headphones, revealing his sharp, handsome face. He glanced up at the camera with a devilish smirk, raising an eyebrow.
Fans in the arena erupted into wild screams.
