The next morning, Mu Wan’s fever had subsided. The doctor prescribed a few more medications for her to take at home to stabilize her recovery. Now fully awake, Mu Wan felt quite embarrassed when she remembered her childish behavior from last night.
“Good luck in your match today. I’ll cheer for you in the live stream.”
“If you’re not feeling well, just lie down. I’ll come back as soon as I finish my match.”
Mu Wan immediately glared at him. “I’m an adult, I can take care of myself. Don’t mess up your match just because of me…”
Kuang Ye lightly tapped her on the head. “Don’t worry, I still have some professional ethics. Don’t stress out for nothing.”
The match wasn’t just his responsibility, it was ST’s as well. He wouldn’t act so recklessly, and Mu Wan wouldn’t like that kind of behavior either.
Kuang Ye escorted Mu Wan back to the apartment before leaving. Before he left, he plugged in her laptop and placed it beside her, then washed some fruit and put it on the nightstand, making it look like Mu Wan was completely incapable of taking care of herself.
Mu Wan: …She was just sick, not disabled.
Four hours later, after winning the match and earning both the King of Kills and MVP honors, the “Wild God” returned to the apartment. He also brought lunch for Mu Wan.
Mu Wan: …Her fiancé really had a knack for time management.
After lunch, they settled on the couch to watch a movie. Just as Kuang Ye thought this warm moment would last forever, Mu Wan, leaning in his arms, said,
“Ah Ye, do you remember I told you I had something to talk to you about yesterday afternoon?”
Kuang Ye’s heart skipped a beat. He knew that the moment had finally arrived. He wrapped the blanket around her arm tightly to keep her warm.
He hummed in response.
Mu Wan wasn’t sure how to start. She couldn’t reveal the fact that she had been reborn, so how could she explain that she knew the future? After some careful wording, Mu Wan spoke up.
“Ah Ye, if there’s something you know will have a bad outcome, but your help could stop the damage in advance, would you help?”
Kuang Ye misunderstood, thinking Mu Wan was talking about the bad outcome of their relationship and that she wanted him to help them break up. His heart sank, and he couldn’t help but argue.
“You haven’t even tried, how do you know it’ll end badly?”
Mu Wan: ??
Because I’ve been reborn! I know exactly how bad the outcome will be!
“Anyway, I know the result. Just answer me—if it were you, would you help?”
If she didn’t help, she would feel guilty, but if she did, she would go from being an outsider to someone deeply involved. The butterfly effect might make things worse.
Kuang Ye’s eyes suddenly turned red, and he hugged Mu Wan tightly, burying his head in her neck. He spoke, filled with reluctance, “I wouldn’t help.”
Even though I like you so much, why do I have to make this cruel decision?
Mu Wan: “Huh? You won’t help?”
That might be a bit too cold-hearted—what if O Ruo’s brother commits suicide because of online bullying?
Kuang Ye: “I won’t help!”
Mu Wan suddenly felt warmth on her neck, as if something hot was spreading down her skin. She belatedly realized something was wrong.
“Ah Ye, I was talking about O Ruo’s situation. Did you misunderstand something?”
Kuang Ye, who was in so much pain he almost passed out, froze. He repeated in a daze, “O Ruo?”
Who is that?
Mu Wan turned over, facing Kuang Ye, and saw his damp lashes and red eyes. She was immediately stunned.
Wait, why was the wild god, known for his devilish charm, cool arrogance, and rebellious demeanor, crying? Mu Wan had never seen Kuang Ye cry in either of her lives. She was at a loss for what to do, feeling confused and heartbroken at the same time.
Tentatively, she asked, “Is this because of the aftermath of losing yesterday, or did something I said just now upset you?”
Kuang Ye, whose suppressed emotions were stirred by her words, couldn’t help but laugh.
“Who cries the day after losing a match?”
Mu Wan crossed her arms, looking at him skeptically. “Then what did you misunderstand earlier?” She narrowed her eyes dangerously, her keen senses telling her that the misunderstanding wasn’t something that would make her happy.
Kuang Ye shook his head, trying to brush it off, but after a long silence, he realized avoiding it would only complicate things. Eventually, he decided that he and Mu Wan would have to resolve this issue sooner or later.
“Wan wan… why did you agree to the engagement in the first place?”
Mu Wan wanted to say it was because she liked him, but more questions from Kuang Ye followed quickly.
“Before the engagement, we had met several times. You avoided me because of Kuang Shuyu and Kuang Xingran, and we didn’t even speak much to each other.”
“Just like when you asked me back then, we didn’t have much of an interaction. Why did you suddenly change and take the initiative to approach me, to be with me?”
Mu Wan was momentarily speechless. There was only one answer to all these questions: rebirth.
But she couldn’t tell Kuang Ye that. She couldn’t tell anyone who loved her. Her past life had been so tragic that if Kuang Ye or her parents knew, it would haunt them for the rest of their lives, severely affecting their future lives as well.
Her silence was like a sharp sting in Kuang Ye’s eyes. His voice became hoarse as he looked up at Mu Wan.
“The night before the engagement, Wan wan, we met at the Rose Bar…”
