Ten days passed in the blink of an eye. Under the high-intensity training, Wang Zhi also gradually became stronger. These ten days were the most intense days of training. Originally, from today on, training no longer provided survival points as rewards. The only two ways to obtain survival points now were completing external missions or engaging in ecological farming.
This decision made many people choose farming, as only a few dared to go out for missions. According to statistics, out of 10,000 survivors, 6,000 had already entered the ecological farming area. Among the remaining 4,000, most were still training, waiting to go outside.
Today was also a special day—it marked the end of the one-month period for accepting external missions. Most teams wanted to wait until the last minute before leaving, and about 200 teams were expected to leave today.
Wang Zhi calculated the time. In 15 days, they would have to go out again and face the zombies that were once human.
Looking at the hall on the first floor, which was packed with nearly 1,000 people, all of them were preparing to go out for missions. Among them, some wore full protective suits with guns and ammunition, while others couldn’t even afford protective suits and only had short knives in hand. Seeing these people, Wang Zhi secretly hoped they would return safely, as their safe return would mean that the outside world wasn’t too dangerous, and the Dawn Tower could continue.
As Wang Zhi and his team observed the teams in the distance, Captain Jie Xie walked over.
“Captain Wang, please come with me,” she said urgently.
Wang Zhi didn’t hesitate and immediately followed her.
“We have an urgent mission for you,” she continued once they reached the meeting room.
Without beating around the bush, Jie Xie got straight to the point.
“Captain Jie Xie, please speak,” Wang Zhi said, sensing something was wrong. Jie Xie had never seemed this urgent before.
“The team that was sent to the Chloe Biological Research Institute was completely wiped out. Right now, we need someone to rescue Dr. Yang Liu, who is critical to us. I need you to go there immediately. If you succeed, the reward will be double the normal mission points, which is 5,000 survival points. Of course, you can refuse if you want,” she explained coldly, giving Wang Zhi a feeling that refusal wasn’t really an option.
“Okay, how many days do we have to prepare?” Wang Zhi asked after a moment of consideration.
“One day,” Jie Xie replied.
“One day?” Wang Zhi was taken aback. The sudden mission left him uncertain about how to respond.
“Alright, hurry up and prepare. Captain Wang, we are relying on you. Dr. Yang Liu is very important to us,” she added and left the room.
Wang Zhi’s team was at a loss for words.
“Let’s get ready and pick up some additional equipment,” Wang Zhi said.
“Why agree to her? Is it just because of the 5,000 survival points?” Lao He asked, puzzled.
“Then why did Jie Xie come to us instead of asking someone else?” Wang Zhi countered.
“What else? Probably because she’s familiar with you,” Su Mu Ying rolled her eyes and responded.
“Let’s hurry and prepare. We have enough survival points now, so let’s buy some better weapons,” Wang Zhi said as he walked toward the trading hall.
At the trading hall, Wang Zhi spent a significant amount of survival points to buy 4 automatic rifles, equipped with suppressors, holographic sights, and night-vision scopes. He also purchased 2,000 rounds of ammunition, 4 signal flares, 12 grenades, 4 incendiary grenades, 4 smoke grenades, and a drone. The total cost came to 5,065 survival points!
The cost exceeded the mission reward, but Wang Zhi didn’t care. What mattered was survival. If they died because of insufficient equipment, it would be a huge loss.
“We’ll take this for now, and have everything delivered to our place,” Wang Zhi told the staff.
Back at their residence, Wang Zhi and his team began organizing their gear. Each of them packed a combat backpack with food and various tools, while grenades and bullets were strapped to their waist and chest. Handguns and knives were attached to their legs, and they carried rifles in hand.
“What are you guys doing? Going on a mission?” Fatty asked, coming down from the upper floor and noticing the others packing.
“Yes, Captain Jie Xie assigned us an urgent mission. We need to leave by tomorrow at the latest,” Wang Zhi replied.
“I’m coming with you,” Fatty said, walking down the stairs.
“Listen, Fatty, you’re not fit to go out right now. Your gunshot wound hasn’t healed, and you’d only be a burden. The zombies outside are said to have evolved and become even more vicious. Stay here and rest. No matter how long we’re gone, you’re not allowed to leave. If we don’t come back… well, the survival points in your account will be enough for you to live a long life,” Wang Zhi said, continuing to organize his equipment.
Fatty gritted his teeth as he listened. He knew his wound hadn’t healed yet and that he couldn’t keep up with the mission.
After packing everything, the group went to the restaurant for a large meal, costing Wang Zhi 100 survival points. It was the best meal he’d had since arriving, and everyone around them looked enviously at their feast of fish, meat, and beautiful women.
“Full now! Let’s rest for a while, and then we’ll head out,” Wang Zhi said, lounging in his chair.
