Chapter 44: They All Deserve to Die

Xiao Qi and An Qing quietly arrived in front of the vending machine.

Smash! Xiao Qi used the iron rod in his hand to break the glass! In the silent hallway, the sound of shattering glass was particularly piercing.

Growl~ Zombies near the first floor heard the noise and instantly let out low growls, heading in their direction.

Xiao Qi saw that the zombies had been alerted, so he quickly hit the vending machine a few more times to shatter the glass completely.

“Quick! An Qing, grab the stuff and let’s go!” Xiao Qi shouted while pulling out the items from inside the vending machine.

Actually, An Qing had already decided to grab the supplies and leave after hearing Xiao Qi’s words on the stairs, but when they were here fighting for their lives together, she changed her mind. She couldn’t leave him!

“An Qing? What are you doing? Hurry up!” Xiao Qi asked when he saw An Qing standing there, staring at him in a daze.

“Xiao Qi, you’re a responsible man. If only this weren’t the apocalypse, how nice it would be!” An Qing said as she put down the food in her hands and drew a knife from her bag.

“An Qing, what are you doing?” Xiao Qi asked in surprise.

“I’m going with you to deal with those things.”

As soon as she finished speaking, several zombies had already arrived at the hall and were charging toward the two of them.

Xiao Qi didn’t have time to think. He charged forward and began to fight the zombies.

“Xiao Qi! Woo~” An Qing, seeing Xiao Qi fighting the zombies, also rushed up.

Thud, thud, thud! A zombie fell in front of An Qing.

“Get down!”

A human voice echoed from afar.

An Qing instinctively looked up. There were four fully-armed humans. Immediately, she couldn’t hold back her tears anymore. How many days had passed? How many hopes had turned into despair? Just when they thought they were all doomed, they saw the army.

“Quick, get down!”

The voice came again from a distance. Only then did An Qing realize and immediately drop to the ground.

Dah, dah, dah! Another round of gunfire rang out. The zombies in the hall were all killed.

“Ha! It’s not too late,” Wang Zhi said, throwing away the empty magazine.

“Are you Dr. Yang Liu?” Wang Zhi asked as he helped the crying An Qing up.

“Big brothers, save us, save us, woo woo woo.” An Qing, emotionally overwhelmed, grabbed Wang Zhi.

“Are you alright?” Lao He asked as he helped Xiao Qi up.

“I’m fine, thank you for rescuing us. Are you here to find Dr. Yang Liu?”

“Yes, we’ve been assigned a mission to rescue Dr. Yang Liu,” Lao He replied.

“Great,” Xiao Qi said weakly.

Wang Zhi looked at the increasingly weak Xiao Qi and said, “We’re late, he’s injured!”

Seeing Wang Zhi suddenly raise his gun, An Qing immediately regained her composure and shouted, “What are you going to do?”

“He’s injured. In a little while, he will turn into a zombie. We have no choice,” Wang Zhi explained.

Xiao Qi froze and then felt the extreme pain in his shoulder. Looking at the wound on his shoulder, he, more than anyone, understood that he was beyond saving.

Xiao Qi smiled in resignation: “Just end it quickly.”

After speaking, Xiao Qi lay on the ground, closed his eyes, and the corners of his mouth slightly lifted. Perhaps he knew that Dr. Yang was saved, or perhaps he was relieved to avoid becoming one of those soulless walking corpses.

Wang Zhi, with a complex expression, looked at Xiao Qi on the ground and pulled the trigger.

“Miss, please take us to find Dr. Yang Liu,” Wang Zhi said, turning to An Qing.

An Qing seemed not to have heard and slowly walked toward the vending machine, quietly picking up the water and food that had fallen on the ground.

“Xiao Qi! Why are you so foolish! No one else came, only you, and you risked your life to find food for them! Woo woo~” An Qing muttered to herself while picking up the food.

Wang Zhi stood by and watched An Qing. At this moment, Su Mu Ying could no longer stand it and prepared to step forward and question her, but was stopped by Wang Zhi.

“Miss, the priority now is to save the people, isn’t it?” Wang Zhi asked, stepping up to An Qing.

“Save people? You didn’t save Xiao Qi, but you want to save that group of selfish, cowardly people? They all deserve to die!” An Qing shouted angrily at Wang Zhi.

Wang Zhi didn’t get angry and said kindly, “Miss, no matter how much those people deserve to die, we still need to save Dr. Yang. Please, think of the bigger picture.”

Hearing Wang Zhi’s persuasion and recalling the goal she had with Xiao Qi, An Qing calmed down. She wrapped the food and water in her coat without a word and walked toward the second floor.

Wang Zhi and the others exchanged glances and then followed her up.
