Chapter 50 – Fear

“Captain, the person is here.”

“Mm, let her in.” Jie Xi didn’t look up, continuing to read her book.

“Did you call for me?” A woman’s voice came from outside the door.

“Please, sit.”

Once the woman sat down, Jie Xi spoke, “What is your name?”

“My name is An Qing, I’m Dr. Yang’s assistant.”

An Qing answered while lowering her head. She could feel the pressure from the woman in front of her, which made her uncomfortable.

“I see that you were brought back by Wang Zhi. Tell me the details.” Jie Xi said coldly.

As soon as Wang Zhi was mentioned, An Qing, who had been keeping her head down, immediately raised it, looking warily at Jie Xi. “Why should I tell you?”

“Oh?” Jie Xi raised an eyebrow, standing up slowly and walking toward An Qing.

At this moment, An Qing could feel the pressure coming from Jie Xi, causing her hands to start trembling.

“I… How do I know you won’t harm him?” An Qing looked at Jie Xi, who was exuding a murderous aura, and said without fear.

An Qing thought to herself that she had already brushed with death once, so she wasn’t afraid anymore.

“Not bad.” Jie Xi withdrew her pressure and returned to her seat.

An Qing, still shaken, took deep breaths, having difficulty catching her breath from the pressure just now.

“Let me introduce myself. This is the headquarters of the Dawn Tower’s guards. I am the captain here, Jie Xi.”

“Captain Jie Xi, I…”

“We won’t talk about Wang Zhi for now. I’ll go find him later. I heard from him that you want to join the guard team?”

“Yes! I want to become stronger!” An Qing raised her head with determination in her eyes.

“Becoming stronger isn’t as simple as it sounds. It requires countless trials and sacrifices to truly understand the essence of power. Are you still willing to continue?”

“Yes! I will pay any price,” An Qing said with unwavering determination.

“Oh? Why?”

“To protect those I want to protect in my own way,” An Qing said, clenching her fist, thinking of the image of Xiao Qi smiling as she watched herself die. She didn’t even notice the pain in her fingernails as they dug into her flesh.

“Mm, here is your magnetic card. From now on, you are a member of the guard team. However, you will need to pay back 1,000 survival points as the cost of transitioning from a refugee to a citizen. That’s the rule,” Jie Xi explained to An Qing.

“Thank you, Captain Jie Xi.” An Qing said, standing up and bowing deeply to Jie Xi.

“Go ahead. I’ll send someone to guide you on what to do next.”

After An Qing left, Jie Xi arranged for a female guard to accompany An Qing to complete the paperwork and guide her through her subsequent missions.

Once everything was arranged, Jie Xi took out the coffee that Wang Zhi had sent her and made herself a cup using the method he had taught her.

“Wang Zhi… Wang Zhi… You’ve truly made me see you in a new light.”

Hours later.

Wang Zhi woke up, feeling well-rested for the first time in a long while.

“Mm~”

“Who’s there?” Wang Zhi was startled by the sound.

In a panic, he quickly turned on the lamp and saw a silver-haired person lying on his pillow!

“Sakura… Sakura?” Wang Zhi whispered, trembling as he asked.

He glanced around the room and confirmed it was his own room. What the hell? What is this woman doing here?!

“Don’t make a noise.” Su Mu Sakura mumbled with her eyes closed, pulling the blanket over her and turning to continue sleeping.

Wang Zhi checked himself, relieved to find that he hadn’t been undressed. He let out a sigh.

“Hey… Sakura… you scared me. How did you end up in my bed?”

“Mm, I’m scared,” Su Mu Sakura murmured, still half-asleep.

Wang Zhi was stunned. This woman not only played around but had the audacity to say she was scared? If it weren’t for her taking on dozens of zombies without flinching, he might have believed her!

Suddenly, his gaze couldn’t help but drift downward. What the hell? She’s only wearing her underwear? Thank goodness she’s not completely naked, but the view is still dangerously revealing!

Wang Zhi couldn’t stay in bed anymore. If he stayed here much longer, he couldn’t guarantee he would still be a gentleman. After getting up to wash and freshen up, he went to the living room and found Liuli sitting on the couch, watching a movie on her phone.

“Yo, Liuli, you’re up so early.” Wang Zhi walked over and sat next to her.

“I accidentally fell asleep on the couch. The delivery guy woke me up with the supplies,” Liuli explained.

“Why didn’t you go back to your room to sleep?” Wang Zhi asked.

Liuli shook her head. “Not tired.”

Wang Zhi looked at her strangely and asked, “Are you… afraid?”

Liuli blushed and lowered her head, nodding slightly.

Seeing Liuli nod, Wang Zhi was perplexed. Was this girl also like Su Mu Sakura?

But Liuli didn’t seem like the type to lie. So, Wang Zhi crouched in front of her and asked, “Why are you afraid?”

Liuli thought for a moment and said, “I… I have nightmares sometimes. I don’t feel safe and can’t sleep well.”

Wang Zhi was somewhat skeptical.

“Well… How about you sleep with Sakura from now on?” Wang Zhi suggested.

“Won’t it trouble Sakura?” Liuli worried.

“It’s fine. She’s scared too. You two make a perfect pair.”

Wang Zhi gave Liuli a knowing look and then got up to check the supplies that had been delivered.

The haul wasn’t bad: twenty-one packs of popular cigarettes, boxes of various drinks, two boxes of candy and snacks. He also got the firearms, bulletproof vests, and other parts he had ordered.

“Liuli, come with me to get food.”

After leaving the room, Wang Zhi found the third-floor training hall completely empty. Was the Wang Dynasty team and the Eternal Doomsday team out on missions?
