Chapter 61: Changing Teams
Chapter 61: Changing Teams
Su Mu Ying assembled the sniper rifle and aimed at the 200-meter distant humanoid target at the far end of the shooting range.
Bang! One shot shattered the head of the humanoid target.
Wang Zhi put down the binoculars and smiled to himself. It seemed the survival points spent were definitely worth it—long-range precision strikes were off the charts.
After Su Mu Ying successfully destroyed ten targets, she satisfiedly put away the sniper rifle. It seemed this sniper rifle was quite a good fit for her.
After a while, the two boxes of ammunition were almost emptied by Wang Zhi and his group. They left the shooting range, put the rifles back in the residential area, had a simple meal, and packed two portions for Duan Qing Tian and Zhang Ming. Originally, the team had six members, but now only two remained, both lying in the infirmary.
When they arrived at the medical room, Wang Zhi saw that both of them had stabilized emotionally. After eating, Duan Qing Tian spoke up:
“Zhang Ming, go and complete the transfer paperwork with Captain Wang.”
Zhang Ming looked at Duan Qing Tian, hesitated for a moment, but eventually agreed. It seemed the two had already communicated about this beforehand.
“Captain Duan, in a few days I will organize an operation to help you get your revenge and collect resources from there. Would you come?” Wang Zhi called Duan Qing Tian.
Duan Qing Tian was stunned for a moment upon hearing Wang Zhi’s words, but then his eyes filled with hatred.
“Of course, I will go! I will make those bastards pay in blood!” Duan Qing Tian said, his eyes bloodshot, trembling with rage.
“Good, wait for my news in the next few days.”
Wang Zhi said, helping Zhang Ming off the bed, and the two of them headed to the operations hall.
News of the disbandment of the former dynasty quickly spread throughout the Dawn Tower.
“What? The former dynasty disbanded?”
“You don’t know yet? Only two people survived from the former dynasty’s mission, it’s a real tragedy.”
“I heard Zhang Ming from the former dynasty has already joined the team, ‘Last Light’!”
“Is that true!? The Last Light team is so shameless, they’re poaching people before the former dynasty even recovers.”
“I think Zhang Ming isn’t a good guy either. Seeing his own team suffering, he already found a new team to join.”
“Yeah, poor Captain Duan though!”
For a time, the situation of the two teams became the talk of the town in the Dawn Tower.
Zhang Ming brought half of the former dynasty’s 5500 survival points and joined the Last Light team. At this point, Wang Zhi’s team had more than 16,000 survival points.
“Look at you guys, so rich,” Zhang Ming remarked.
“It’s us,” Wang Zhi grinned and corrected him.
After Wang Zhi’s correction, Zhang Ming realized that he had misspoken and laughed awkwardly.
“Captain Wang, about this operation, can we…?”
“What?” Wang Zhi noticed Zhang Ming was hesitant and pressed him.
“Can we not bring Captain Duan?”
“Not bring him? Why?” Wang Zhi was confused.
“I’m afraid he might do something reckless. I know him very well; he will do anything, regardless of the cost, to fight.”
“I see, but that’s exactly why he should come. Don’t you want him to live the rest of his life in guilt and self-blame? Do you want him to spend this dark, hopeless world always thinking that his teammates died because they were trying to save him?”
“I understand now, Captain Wang. Thank you,” Zhang Ming said, lowering his head.
After they left the residential area, Wang Zhi arranged for Fatty to help Zhang Ming move his things from the former dynasty’s quarters.
The house had two floors, with a total of six rooms. Three rooms on the first floor were for Lao He, Fatty, and Zhang Ming, while the three rooms upstairs were for Wang Zhi, Su Mu Ying, and Liu Li.
After Zhang Ming settled into his room, Wang Zhi gathered everyone in the living room and introduced them to each other.
After some conversation, Zhang Ming revealed that he had been an archaeologist before, coming here for an expedition, only to end up stranded.
“Xiao Ming! Now that you’re here, we’re all brothers. If you need anything, feel free to ask me. There’s nothing in the Dawn Tower I can’t handle!” Fatty said, patting his chest confidently.
“After a long day’s work, you should rest up. We have training tomorrow,” Wang Zhi said before heading to his room.
Not long after, Liu Li and Su Mu Ying walked in. After spending several days together, the three seemed to have gotten used to it. Since they had started wearing the weight training suits, everyone was exhausted by the end of the day and would fall asleep as soon as they hit the bed.
…
The next day, Wang Zhi’s first task was to take Zhang Ming to the equipment hall, where he had a weight training suit custom made for him. When Zhang Ming saw that he would have to train wearing 30 kilograms of weight, he exclaimed, “This is over the top, this is literally devilish training! No wonder everyone looked so tired yesterday.”
But when joining a team, one must follow the rules. Wang Zhi arranged for Zhang Ming to wear a suit of the same weight as his own.
“Don’t underestimate this suit,” Wang Zhi said. “Although it’s tough, after some time, it will bring about a fundamental change.”
“Fundamental change?”
“Yeah, if you completely adapt to this suit, when you take it off, you will effectively have gained an additional 30 kilograms of weight. It’s like a 70-kilogram person fighting a 100-kilogram person—if their skills are similar, the 100-kilogram person will easily overpower the 70-kilogram person.” Wang Zhi explained.
“I get it, it’s like running with sandbags.”
“Right, but my inspiration came from Captain Jie Xi’s armor. Her armor weighs 50 kilograms.”
“Whoa! 50 kilograms? Have you seen her fight?” Zhang Ming gasped.
“I’ve not only seen it, I’ve also sparred with her.”
“Really? How did it go?”
“I lost. And I lost badly. I don’t know her limit, but I know that if all six of us fought together, we would still lose,” Wang Zhi said, remembering the fear from that day.
“She’s that strong?” Zhang Ming couldn’t believe it.
“What else? Should I buy a few pieces of armor for myself with survival points?” Wang Zhi said with a slight grin.
“By the way, you mentioned the team ‘Eternal Apocalypse’ before. What’s their deal? We haven’t seen them around recently. It seems they’ve been gone for a while,” Wang Zhi suddenly recalled, asking about the masked people they had seen when they first came to the third floor.
