Chapter 67: The Battle with the Giant Python

“What? Captain Jiexi, you’re heading out?”

Wang Zhi was surprised when he heard that Jiexi wanted to go out and see the giant python.

“In a moment, you’ll come with me to track that snake.” Jiexi stood up and put on her armor.

“Wait, Captain Jiexi, is this really necessary?”

Wang Zhi didn’t understand Jiexi’s actions at all. Even if she was confident in killing the giant python, there was no need to go head-to-head with a beast.

“Call your team. We’re leaving immediately.”

Jiexi didn’t answer Wang Zhi’s question. He wanted to prepare some supplies, but Jiexi refused and simply ordered him to lead the way.

Hurriedly, Wang Zhi rushed back to his quarters. The others had just sat down to rest when he burst through the door.

“Gear up! We’re heading out.” Wang Zhi announced as he entered.

“Huh?! We just got back! Why are we going out again? Our gear is still in the medical bay being cleaned! Where are we supposed to get our equipment now?” Fatty complained from the couch.

“We’ll pick it up there and leave immediately. Jiexi wants us to take her back to where we encountered that giant python—she wants to confront it herself.”

Wang Zhi explained what had just happened with Jiexi.

“What the hell? Is she crazy? That python can send a person flying with a single swipe—how is she planning to fight it?”

“No idea. All I know is she told us to lead the way. Whatever else happens is up to her.”

“Hmph, then why isn’t she asking Wei Zheng and his team?” Su Muying asked from the side.

“Yeah, why not them?” Lao He added.

“The ones who went out with us last time were Jiexi’s subordinates. Six of them died. She probably doesn’t want to risk losing more of her people.”

“Is she reliable? Does she really think she can take on that python alone?” Zhang Ming asked, worried about their chances of escaping if something went wrong.

Wang Zhi shook his head, indicating he didn’t know. But Jiexi wouldn’t be stupid enough to throw her life away. If she was this confident, she must have a trump card.

“Don’t overthink it. Grab some smoke grenades and adrenaline shots. If things go south, inject yourselves and retreat at full speed.”

With that, Wang Zhi and his team left their quarters, retrieved their weapons and armor—still not fully cleaned—from the medical bay, and met Jiexi in the main hall. She stood waiting, holding only a large sword. Upon seeing Wang Zhi, she stepped into the elevator he had taken before.

By the time they reached the outside, it was already 3 PM. The sky had become overcast, and a light drizzle had started falling.

Two hours later, Wang Zhi led Jiexi to the site of the previous attack. The ground bore clear traces of the python’s movements, and several large trees had been knocked down and shattered.

After searching for a while, they finally found the supplies that had been scattered from the camp.

“This is it!” Wang Zhi confirmed after spotting the supplies.

“It likely came down from the mountain,” Jiexi said as she observed the surroundings, finally fixing her gaze on a small mountain in the distance.

“Are we going up there to look for it?” Wang Zhi asked.

“No. We wait here.”

With that, Jiexi leaned against a tree to rest.

Wang Zhi and the others remained on high alert, not daring to relax for even a second.

“You don’t have to be so tense. It just ate a bunch of people—it won’t show up again so soon.”

Hearing this, the team felt Jiexi made sense and followed her example, leaning against the trees to rest.

They waited until nightfall, but the giant python never appeared.

At first, the tree cover provided shelter from the rain, but as the downpour intensified, they were soon drenched.

“I don’t get why she insists on picking a fight with a snake,” Fatty muttered under his breath.

“Shh! She’ll hear you!” Zhang Ming quickly covered Fatty’s mouth.

And so, they endured a long, rainy night without spotting a single zombie—let alone the giant python.

Just as Wang Zhi began doubting whether the python would return, Jiexi, who had been leaning against the tree all night, finally moved.

“It’s here.”

With just those two words, the group immediately tensed up. Wang Zhi once again felt the same ominous presence from yesterday.

It really was the same python!

His eyes scanned the area, searching for any sign of movement. Remembering that Jiexi had said it likely came from the mountain, he focused in that direction.

Not far away, the giant python slithered toward them in an S-shaped pattern.

“Over there!” Wang Zhi shouted, pointing at the python.

As it drew closer, Jiexi remained motionless, making Wang Zhi’s heart race.

The group had already injected their adrenaline shots, ready to retreat at a moment’s notice.

The python was now only 50 meters away. Wang Zhi kept his eyes locked on Jiexi. They were running out of time—why wasn’t she moving?

Just as Wang Zhi was about to turn and flee, Jiexi suddenly pulled her massive sword from the ground and leaped into the air!

Wang Zhi’s eyes widened in shock—she had jumped at least ten meters high!

The python noticed her mid-air approach and immediately reared up, lunging at her with its massive jaws.

Its mouth was so wide it could easily swallow a car whole!

To Wang Zhi’s astonishment, Jiexi didn’t dodge. Instead, she met the attack head-on, swinging her greatsword.

ROAR!

A piercing wail echoed through the forest.

In that brief moment, Jiexi’s sword had sliced a one-meter gash into the corner of the python’s mouth!

Its jaw could no longer close properly, and it thrashed violently, its blood-red eyes locking onto Jiexi.

Bullets couldn’t even pierce the python’s scales, yet Jiexi had managed to wound it with her sword.

Wang Zhi stared in disbelief.

But Jiexi wasn’t done.

Her goal wasn’t just to wound the beast—she was here to kill it!
