Chapter 68: Battle of the Giant Python (Part 2)

Jie Xi struck a successful blow and leaped into the air once more—this time, aiming for the python’s head!

Seeing her jump, the giant python lunged forward again, trying to swallow her whole. However, its mouth could no longer close properly. Only now did it realize—it had lost the ability to bite its enemy.

Slash! Jie Xi’s sword came down again, striking the python at its seven-inch vital point. However, this strike was noticeably less effective than the first.

The blade only managed to pierce the surface of its thick skin. The python, enraged by the second wound, thrashed about violently. Before Jie Xi could react, its massive body coiled around her, trapping her completely!

Wang Zhi’s heart sank. This is bad! Once a snake constricts its prey, it only tightens until the victim is crushed to death!

Fortunately, the python’s damaged mouth could no longer bite. Instead, it focused all its strength on coiling tighter around Jie Xi, its head repeatedly slamming into her.

Watching the monstrous serpent coil itself into tighter rings, Fatty hesitated. “W-Wang… Captain Wang, I think we should just run! Even Captain Jie Xi can’t handle this thing. What are we waiting for?!”

The others knew the truth. Unless there was another fighter as strong as Jie Xi among them, breaking the python’s constriction was nearly impossible.

Meanwhile, the python continued to batter Jie Xi with its head. She desperately blocked and struggled, gripping her greatsword.

Seeing her in distress, Wang Zhi clenched his fists and moved forward, only to be held back. He turned to see Su Muying shaking her head at him, silently telling him not to go.

Aside from Wang Zhi and Liuli, everyone else had already reached the most rational decision—to flee while they still could. If the python hadn’t killed Jie Xi yet, there was still time to escape.

Wang Zhi pushed Su Muying’s hand away and pulled out his magnetic card, tossing it to her.

“You all go. Jie Xi must not die. Even if we escape this python, there will be thousands of other monsters waiting for us. Running away won’t change our fate.”

With that, he grabbed Yelianlong from Liuli’s hands. Right now, it was the sharpest weapon they had. Tossing his backpack aside, he hurled two smoke bombs toward the python and charged forward!

Jie Xi’s greatsword slipped from her grip and clattered to the ground—she had been squeezed to the point of losing strength.

Seeing this, Wang Zhi rushed forward and grabbed the fallen sword.

It was incredibly heavy—at least 30 kilograms—but thanks to the surge of adrenaline in his veins, it felt almost manageable.

With both hands gripping the greatsword, Wang Zhi drove the blade into the python’s body with all his might. Unlike slashing, stabbing concentrated all the force into a single point, making it easier to break through defenses. The blade sank in deep.

The python roared in agony, its coils loosening slightly around Jie Xi. But in the next moment, its tail lashed out and sent Wang Zhi flying!

The impact felt like being hit by a speeding car. His insides churned violently, and with a mouthful of blood, he crashed against a tree and collapsed.

As his consciousness faded, countless thoughts flooded his mind.

Is this where I die? Not even at the hands of a zombie…

Did Su Muying and the others escape? Will they avenge me? Who will be the next team captain?

Before he could get his answers, his vision blurred. He felt Yelianlong being taken from his grasp but lacked the strength to look up. His eyes closed.

It was Liuli who had taken the weapon.

The moment Wang Zhi was struck down, everyone sprang into action!

Su Muying quickly formulated a plan: Zhang Ming, Fatty, and Old He would use gunfire to distract the python, while she targeted its eyes—the only weak spot she could exploit. Meanwhile, Liuli was to continue attacking its seven-inch vital point. Jie Xi had already wounded it there; a few more strikes might finish it off.

Old He and the others opened fire, aiming at the python’s tail. Meanwhile, Su Muying swiftly approached its head, daggers in hand.

The python, still focused on Jie Xi, slammed its head down again and again. Su Muying waited for the perfect moment—when it reared back to gather strength. In that split second, she plunged both daggers into its eyes!

“Liuli!” she shouted.

Liuli, receiving the signal, dashed forward and leaped into the air. Her blade struck the python’s seven-inch weak point, causing blood to spurt out.

ROAR!

The python let out its loudest scream yet, its coils momentarily loosening before constricting even tighter than before.

Everyone was stunned. Why is it still moving?!

“Not good! The python’s roar is attracting all the nearby zombies!” Zhang Ming shouted, peering through his binoculars.

“Holy shit! There are too many to count!” Fatty, also looking through a scope, went pale. Hordes of zombies were converging on their location.

Back at the python’s core, its coils crushed inward—only a twisted pile of armor remained at the center. Jie Xi was nowhere to be seen.

Su Muying’s eyes darted to the side—Jie Xi was already on her feet, pulling her greatsword from the python’s body.

“A perfect Golden Cicada Shell Escape!” Old He exclaimed.

Blinded, the python had no idea that it had been wrapping itself around an empty suit of armor. Jie Xi had used the time to slip free!

Now, with her greatsword in hand, she delivered one final strike to the python’s vital point.

Boom!

The massive serpent’s body finally split apart at the weak point, collapsing to the ground with a resounding crash.

“Captain Jie Xi, we need to go! The zombies are closing in!” Fatty urged.

“Not yet,” Jie Xi replied calmly. She approached the python’s body and drove her sword into its skull several more times. Only when she was certain it was dead did she sever its head and lift it up.

“Fatty, carry Wang Zhi back. The rest of you, gather supplies,” Su Muying ordered. She wasn’t about to leave behind the loot that Wei Zheng’s group had abandoned yesterday.

When Wang Zhi regained consciousness, he slowly opened his eyes. After a moment’s hesitation, he sat up.

Hiss!

A sharp pain shot through his body.

“Lie down! You’ve got three broken ribs. Do you want to make it worse?”

He turned to see Su Muying, instantly feeling at ease.

“I’m not dead?”

Su Muying frowned. “If you want to die, I can arrange that.”

Wang Zhi chuckled and lay back down. “I’d rather die in your arms than in that python’s coils.”

“Ha! More like you’d prefer to die in Jie Xi’s arms,” she scoffed.

“Wait… Jie Xi… Did she…?” He hesitated.

“She’s fine. In fact, she had enough strength to drag a 100-kilogram python head for three hours.”

Relieved, Wang Zhi let out a deep breath.

“You idiot. She could’ve escaped on her own, but you had to go play hero. Next time, when your luck runs out, what will you do?” Su Muying scolded.

“She could escape on her own?” Wang Zhi was skeptical. He had seen her sword fall from her grasp—how could she have freed herself?

“She used the Golden Cicada Shell Escape. It took some time, but she slipped out of her armor.”

So that was it. Wang Zhi silently admitted that he had been too naive.

“What about the others?” he asked.

“They’re resting. No sleep for two days—everyone’s exhausted. Now that you’re awake, I’m heading to bed. Here’s your card. If you need anything, call a nurse.”

Tossing his magnetic card onto his chest, Su Muying turned and left.
