Chapter 90: Recruiting a New Member

During their meal, Wang Zhi and his team overheard countless discussions revolving around the bounty on Eternal Doomsday. The news of Eternal Doomsday’s death, combined with their own recent loss of a teammate, had dramatically shifted the camp’s stance. The once-divided factions—those who feared the mission and those who were reckless—had become overwhelmingly dominated by the fearful. Only a handful of teams still clung to wishful thinking, but the majority had already fallen into the camp of caution.

Despite the tempting bounty, most people hesitated when it came to actually stepping forward.

First Floor, Battle Preparation Zone.

“Warriors! This mission is both special and critical! We will face a horde of relentless, fearless zombies! Our ultimate objective is to take down their leader at all costs! Do you understand?”

“Yes, sir!”

Standing before thirty warriors, Deputy Captain Wu Changzheng gave an impassioned speech, reinforcing the importance of their mission.

“Good! Warriors, follow me—depart!”

With a resounding command, Wu Changzheng turned and boarded the helicopter.

After finishing their meal, Wang Zhi hurriedly led his team away from the second floor. The meal had been uncomfortable, not because of the food but because of the unwanted attention. Somehow, word had spread that their team was dining there, attracting a large crowd outside the restaurant. The scene made Wang Zhi feel like a zoo animal on display.

Of course, the biggest attraction was still Su Muying and Jia Liuli. Su Muying remained indifferent and composed, while Jia Liuli, on the other hand, blushed furiously and focused solely on eating.

Wang Zhi knew the onlookers weren’t there out of admiration. Most were simply verifying rumors or hoping to get acquainted with them, ensuring they wouldn’t unknowingly offend a powerful figure in the future. In this place, admiration didn’t exist—only selfishness and jealousy.

Upon returning to the third floor, Wang Zhi encountered Cheng Hao at the training ground. Cheng Hao had expressed admiration for their Twilight team before, but Wang Zhi had never taken it seriously—he hadn’t seen any real reverence in Cheng Hao’s eyes.

“Hey, Captain Wang, we meet again. Where have you been?” Cheng Hao approached them, striking up a conversation.

“You ask too many questions.” Wang Zhi frowned, clearly displeased.

“Alright, alright.” Cheng Hao shrugged and turned to leave.

“Tch, he really thinks he’s something, huh?”

As Cheng Hao walked away, he muttered under his breath. Though his voice wasn’t loud, Wang Zhi and his team heard him clearly.

“You little—”

Fatty’s eyes widened in anger, and he was about to grab Cheng Hao when Su Muying pulled him back.

“Your captain didn’t react, so why are you getting all worked up?” she said casually.

Wang Zhi watched Cheng Hao’s retreating figure with a calm expression. Cheng Hao’s behavior was somewhat unexpected yet understandable. The unexpected part was that Cheng Hao had the audacity to say such things to his face. The understandable part was that someone as two-faced as Cheng Hao was bound to show this side eventually.

Shaking his head, Wang Zhi returned to training. However, his attention was soon drawn to Flying Tiger Squad again. He noticed that Long Yi had recruited a new member—another burly man. It seemed Long Yi had a preference for strong and imposing recruits.

Observing Flying Tiger Squad, Wang Zhi also began considering adding a new member to Twilight. The thought of recruiting gave him a headache. He was confident in his own judgment, but Su Muying was another matter. If she disapproved of someone, there was no way that person would be accepted.

Later that night, after training, Wang Zhi brought up the idea of recruiting a new member. Everyone agreed, but another problem arose—where to find the right person.

If he wanted a strong recruit, he would have to poach from another team. However, Wang Zhi despised betrayal and opportunists, so his choices were limited to the refugees hoping to gain citizenship.

With only three days left until the second recruitment phase ended, finding someone before then would save them 1,000 survival points on citizenship fees. Though Wang Zhi wasn’t stingy, the timing was convenient.

More importantly, having six members would allow them to split into three pairs for missions. With five people, one person would always be left alone.

However, Wang Zhi wasn’t fixated on the survival points. If he found the right person, he wouldn’t mind paying. All he wanted was someone he could trust completely—someone he could entrust with his back.

When Wang Zhi had chosen Zhang Ming, it was because he had seen kindness in Zhang Ming’s eyes. In the end, Zhang Ming had proven his nature with his life.

Lying on the couch with his eyes closed, Wang Zhi sighed.

“Hey! Don’t just stare at that dumb soap opera—give me your opinions!” he said impatiently.

“Hmm? I think the same as you,” Su Muying replied without looking away from the screen.

Lao He: “Same here.”

Fatty: “Me too.”

Speechless, Wang Zhi turned his gaze to Liuli. Feeling his stare, Liuli looked at the others, then at Wang Zhi.

“I… I agree too…”

With her response, Wang Zhi finally relaxed and leaned back on the couch, lost in thought.

The next morning, the team headed to the first-floor administrative hall to review the list of candidates seeking citizenship.

The records included photos, names, genders, ages, heights, weights, and pre-apocalypse occupations.

As Wang Zhi browsed through the names, he noticed that whenever he paused on a female candidate, he could feel a sharp wave of killing intent beside him. Ever since he had gained the ability to sense threats from mutants, he had come to trust his instincts. And right now, the killing intent beside him was no joke. Wang Zhi quickly scrolled past the female candidates, and only then did the aura subside.

Thanks to Su Muying’s silent intimidation, he completely abandoned the idea of recruiting a female member. He knew that if he did, either he would die, the new member would die, or, in a rare scenario, they would both die.

“What kind of nonsense is this? ‘Pre-apocalypse Occupation: Gangster’? Since when was that a profession?” Lao He grumbled as he scanned the list.

Wang Zhi also noticed the issue. Most of the candidates were just leftovers—the ones no other teams wanted.

“Wait—I’ve got it!”

Just as Wang Zhi was about to give up, a name suddenly came to mind.
