Chapter 29
She leaned in closer and took a look. “There’s a slight change. Don’t rush. Use it for a few more days, and when others start complimenting your skin, it won’t be just your imagination anymore.”
“You’re right. Okay, let’s focus on learning the bike now.”
Su Qianqian hopped onto the bike saddle and tried to ride. She quickly realized she wasn’t very familiar with this kind of two-wheeled bicycle. It felt a bit awkward and unsteady, and she ended up wobbling as if she didn’t know how to ride at all.
“You’re much braver than I was when I learned. I didn’t dare ride at all. Keep going, I think you’ll get the hang of it today!” Lin Xuemei encouraged.
Su Qianqian felt embarrassed but didn’t say anything. She pretended not to know how, even though it was still a little tricky for her.
She faked as if she were about to fall and quickly jumped off the bike. She didn’t want to get hurt; it would be inconvenient if she got injured.
After two or three attempts, she felt like she was almost there—any more pretending would be rude.
She started pedaling forward. At first, Lin Xuemei was holding onto the backseat, but soon she realized she might not need to hold on anymore and let go. That’s when Su Qianqian suddenly sped off on the bike, going surprisingly fast.
Lin Xuemei was stunned!
Was she this good at it?
It made her own experience of learning to ride seem silly in comparison!
Su Qianqian rode a full circle and stopped right in front of Lin Xuemei. “I’ve learned!”
Lin Xuemei gave her a thumbs up. “Awesome!”
“With your smarts, if you went to school, you’d be amazing.”
“By the way, is there any place around here where I can learn? I’d be happy to audit or even attend school directly.”
“There is! There’s a night school here. If you want to go, just tell your Captain Cheng, and you should be able to join.”
Su Qianqian was immediately thrilled. That way, when she started learning or accidentally revealed some hidden talent, she could credit it all to the night school.
She happily hummed a song as she headed home.
“What’s got you so happy?” Cheng Yue noticed her beaming face and was a little affected by her mood.
“I learned how to ride a bike!”
“That fast?” Cheng Yue thought it would take at least two days.
She nodded, lifting her chin a little proudly. “Impressive, right?” she hummed playfully, looking quite charming.
“There’s one more thing. Xuemei told me there’s a night school here, and I want to go. It’ll help me improve my knowledge. What do you think?”
This time, Cheng Yue looked at her with renewed respect.
She’s so eager to learn?
She really seemed to have changed—changed in a way that made her feel unfamiliar to him, but also strangely alluring.
“I’ll sign you up,” Cheng Yue agreed.
Afterward, Su Qianqian took the pickled cucumbers and spicy pickles and went to deliver them, finding room 301.
“You came! Xuemei let me try some, and I couldn’t stop thinking about it,” platon leader said as she took the jars.
“If you like them, just let me know. I’ve got another jar of pickled peppers. They’re not too spicy, you can try them too.”
“Okay, how much are these two jars?”
“We all live in the same compound, so I’ll give you a discount. Two jars for five yuan.”
Platon leader had already learned the price from Lin Xuemei, so she wasn’t too surprised. She handed over the five yuan and invited her to come in and sit.
“I’ve got to go now, I still have something to take care of at home, after all, there’s an injured person there. I’ll come by to visit once he’s better.”
She was ecstatic as she held the money. Now that Lin Xuemei had become her spokesperson, she was sure that many people would come to her to buy things. She needed to prepare more, especially since if she divorced Cheng Yue, she wouldn’t be able to stay here anymore.
In the afternoon, she took Cheng Yue’s bike for a spin. Her sense of direction was good, and she had deliberately memorized the route, so she didn’t get lost. She bought quite a few things she needed.
Now, many vendors had set up their stalls, though selling goods on the street was looked down upon, seen as a sign of low status. Who could have predicted that now, street vendors could easily become wealthy, with many of them becoming “ten-thousand yuan households”?
In this era, a “ten-thousand yuan household” was already considered quite rich.
She also bought two more boxes of Vanishing cream; otherwise, she wouldn’t have enough to distribute.
She also bought new clothes and shoes for the three children. The clothes brought from her hometown were too old and worn, so she needed to get some new ones.
Humming a tune, she rode back to the compound. Turning a corner, she noticed a bicycle coming towards her. Naturally, she tried to avoid it, but the other rider kept coming straight for her. It looked like they were about to collide, so she quickly adjusted her bike and stopped by putting her right foot down.
However!
The other person lost control of her bike and fell to the ground.
Ah…
“Su Qianqian, what’s wrong with you? Don’t you look at the road when you ride? Are you blind?” Song Qianqian, who had fallen to the ground, immediately started yelling.
“Big sis, I tried to avoid you earlier. It wasn’t me who ran into you. And! Don’t act like a rabid dog and bite anyone, I didn’t hit you, you fell by yourself. I didn’t even touch you.” Su Qianqian stood where she was, watching her and not going over to help, afraid she might get scammed.
But Song Qianqian was quick to accuse her, “If you hadn’t suddenly shown up, I wouldn’t have fallen! Ever since you came here, everything’s gone wrong for me!”
“That’s because you’re a bad person. What does that have to do with me?” Su Qianqian rolled her eyes, not holding back.
The argument soon attracted attention, and just in time, platon leader passed by. She was about to help Song Qianqian, but Song Qianqian refused, “Don’t help me! Have Su Qianqian apologize!”
“…”
Someone called Director Sun, telling him his wife was hurt and that he should come over right away.
This commotion naturally attracted Wu Sufen, who had been snacking on sunflower seeds. She rushed over like a gust of wind when she heard what happened, “Qianqian, what’s going on?”
“She’s trying to scam me,” Su Qianqian pointed at Song Qianqian, who was sitting on the ground.
Song Qianqian, dressed in an elegant skirt, had fallen in a way that was almost graceful. She was already pretty, so some people felt sorry for her.
“This looks serious. Let me go get Captain Cheng,” Wu Sufen immediately dashed off like the wind.
Su Qianqian opened her mouth to say “No need…” but by the time she spoke, Wu Sufen was already out of sight.
Cheng Yue had no problem walking downstairs anymore; his recovery was nothing short of miraculous in the medical world.
While most people still couldn’t walk after three months, he was already moving around after less than a month.
Su Qianqian and Song Qianqian remained in a standoff, and it wasn’t long before Director Sun arrived. Seeing his wife on the ground, he was immediately filled with concern. “Qianqian, get up, where are you hurt?”
Only then did Song Qianqian agree to get up, leaning on Director Sun in a fake show of discomfort. “Hubby, it hurts so much, look, my skin’s scraped.” She showed him her palm, which had a small scrape. Director Sun immediately blew on it, “That must hurt so much.”
“Hubby, it’s her! She crashed into me!” Song Qianqian pointed at Su Qianqian.
“I didn’t crash into you, you fell by yourself. Don’t blame others.” Su Qianqian was firm, refusing to take responsibility for something she didn’t do. Knowing Song Qianqian’s temperament, if she admitted fault, she would hold onto it and never let it go.
Director Sun comforted Song Qianqian for a moment before looking at Su Qianqian, “It’s a small matter, forget about it. Qianqian’s fine, it’s just a small scrape. Just be careful next time you ride.”
Su Qianqian frowned. This didn’t sound right.
“So what you’re saying is that you’re confirming I crashed into your wife, but you’re not going to hold it against me, is that it?”
