Chapter 37: The Eighty-Year-Old Granny Races and Amazes Everyone!
Qin Yansen raised his eyebrows. “A bloody disaster?”
Qin He couldn’t help but ask curiously, “Grandma, when did you learn fortune-telling?”
Lin Qingqing waved her hand and then placed both hands behind her back, assuming a mysterious demeanor. “You don’t need to worry about that. Just do as I say.”
Qin Yansen said, “Grandma, that’s just superstition. It’s not reliable. There’s still a lot of work to do at the company—I can’t just not go.”
Lin Qingqing replied seriously, “You can’t believe in superstition, but you must believe what your grandma says. Anyway, even if the sun rises from the west tomorrow, you’re not allowed to go out and watch it.”
Qin Yansen and Qin Jingshu fell silent.
At that moment, Qin He quickly asked, “Grandma, what about me? Did you check my fortune? Can I go out and see the sun rise from the west?”
Lin Qingqing turned to glance at the nosy Qin He and said, “Do as you please—you weren’t included in the reading.”
There hadn’t been any plot points involving Qin He lately. Perhaps he was just a minor, peripheral character.
Qin He nodded. “That means I’m lucky. No bad luck coming my way.”
Lin Qingqing clapped her hands and praised, “Top-tier comprehension.”
She thought to herself that with all her careful preparations this time, the plot was surely going to change, right?
But by the next morning, when Lin Qingqing realized she was the only one left at the old mansion, she felt like the sky had fallen!
She couldn’t help but scream at the system: “Why, why, why?! I clearly told them not to go out, that there would be bloodshed! Why did they still leave?! Are they not afraid of dying?!”
[System: All characters must complete their tasks according to the original plot. Every important plotline and character cannot be absent. This is their fate in the book. The purpose of everyone’s existence is to support the male and female leads.]
Lin Qingqing couldn’t believe what she was hearing.
“So you’re saying that every time I change the plot in a critical scene, the characters can only be changed in that moment? When the next major event comes, they’ll still follow the original storyline, out of my control?”
[System: Exactly, Host.]
“Then wasn’t everything I did for nothing? No matter what I do, the conflicts between them will still happen. Qin Yansen will still fall for the female lead without hesitation, become a love rival with the male lead, obediently listen to the female lead, and fight for the position of family head. And Qin Jingshu will still be that twisted, mentally unstable final villain who, under the male lead’s manipulations, kills everyone in the Qin family?!”
Lin Qingqing held her head, feeling a migraine coming on.
She initially thought that if she changed things through emotion and effort, that would be enough. But now it turned out every time she altered something, it only changed that specific moment. The next disaster would still come as scheduled!
She should’ve known that there’s no such thing as a free lunch. Becoming the richest person, regaining youth—how could all that possibly be handed to her so easily?
[System: It’s not all for nothing. As long as you change the plot during critical events, the tragedies won’t happen.]
That sounded nice, but she couldn’t guarantee she’d be able to successfully alter the storyline every single time. If something irreversible happened and caused the Qin family to completely fall apart, not even the gods could save them.
After all, who can truly forgive someone who’s hurt them? Lin Qingqing certainly couldn’t, and she couldn’t expect others to either.
But right now, the most urgent thing was to hurry to the racing track and stop the tragedy from unfolding.
When Lin Qingqing arrived, the racetrack was bustling with activity.
She remembered from the original storyline that Qin Yansen, Qin Jingshu, and Lu Zeyan all participated in this race.
Lu Zeyan entered to impress Mu Yiyi. Qin Yansen also joined for her sake, and Qin Jingshu was brought along by Lu Zeyan to be a foil.
In the first round of the race, although Qin Yansen didn’t win, he received Mu Yiyi’s gentle encouragement. Lu Zeyan placed first, and Qin Jingshu came in third.
Lu Zeyan, jealous, said to Qin Jingshu: “Qin Yansen once said that from childhood till now, you’ve never been able to beat him. You weren’t as good in academics, in work, or even in racing. Your whole family thinks you’re a failure.”
At that exact moment, Qin Yansen glanced over. His look was filled with provocative intent.
That look was meant for love rival Lu Zeyan. But since Lu Zeyan and Qin Jingshu were standing together, Qin Jingshu mistakenly thought Qin Yansen was provoking him, too. Under Lu Zeyan’s manipulation, the dark, twisted side of Qin Jingshu—who had long been bullied by the Qin family—erupted.
Anyone in his shoes would’ve had a hard time holding back emotionally at that point.
But still!
Lin Qingqing couldn’t help but want to curse out loud!
Did Qin Jingshu not have a mouth?! He’d been bullied for so long—couldn’t he just go ask the Qin family’s eldest and second son why they were targeting him?
Just one question—if he asked and they explained, wouldn’t the misunderstanding be cleared up?!
If he’d just asked once, he wouldn’t have been deceived by Lu Zeyan for so long!
She couldn’t help but complain to the system again.
[System: If it were that easy, the story would’ve ended in two chapters.]
Lin Qingqing held her forehead. So now, what she needed to do was find Qin Yansen and Qin Jingshu and bring them home.
But when she glanced toward the starting line of the track, she saw several sleek and cool sports cars parked there, their engines roaring and echoing through the skies.
She couldn’t see who was in the cars, only the shapes of the vehicles.
It looked pretty much the same as what was described in the original storyline.
Based on the timing, this was probably the first round—and it was about to start.
Lin Qingqing thought for a moment: why not also collect some surprise points? She couldn’t let this trip be for nothing!
She looked around and noticed a blond young man not far off on the left, wiping down a not-too-old green sports car.
She walked straight over and handed him a card. “Lend this to me for a bit. Urgent matter. Buy or rent, either’s fine—name your price.”
The blond guy gave her a once-over, a mocking smile playing on his lips. “You want to drive this car? This isn’t some ordinary vehicle. You look older than my mom—can you even handle it? Who’s gonna take responsibility if something happens?”
“It won’t be your problem anyway.”
The blond accepted the bank card and looked at the old auntie in front of him with interest. “You gonna race?”
“Sort of. Mainly here to take my grandsons home for dinner.”
The blond was stunned.
“Take your… grandsons… home for dinner?”
Lin Qingqing glanced toward the track. “Yeah. I don’t have time to explain. Do you agree to let me take the car?”
…
At the racetrack, once the starting gun fired, the cars all shot past the starting line.
Out of the corner of his eye, Lu Zeyan saw a green sports car suddenly overtake him, and his mind momentarily went blank.
In this round of the race, if he remembered correctly, no one was supposed to be driving a green car.
So where the hell did that car come from?!
Qin Yansen and Qin Jingshu were just as puzzled.
But what mattered most on the track was winning. Mu Yiyi was watching from the stands. Both Lu Zeyan and Qin Yansen felt they absolutely could not lose!
As they gave chase, both watched helplessly as the green car navigated every complex curve with flawless drifting, leaving them eating its dust, unable to even glimpse its taillights.
Lu Zeyan thought to himself: That driver is definitely a racing master!
