Chapter 53: You’re Even Taking the Food and Gifts?
Husband?!
Lin Qingqing had been so busy getting younger lately, she nearly forgot she even had a husband.
“What happened to my husband?”
【System: Your husband, Mr. Qin, unfortunately passed away in a car accident at the age of sixty.】
Lin Qingqing suddenly remembered she was inside a book and couldn’t help guessing in a dramatic fashion, “Was the car accident man-made?”
【System: I don’t know either.】
Lying on the bed, Lin Qingqing frowned slightly. “Why can other people’s systems find out everything, but mine can’t? Don’t think I haven’t read novels—those systems, no matter how bad they are, can at least dig up some useful info for their hosts.”
【System, aggrieved: I only learn the plot one minute before the host completes the task.】
So this system was basically a transit station.
And if it’s a transit station, there must be a superior.
Who was the system’s superior? A ruler from some mysterious planet?
Curious, Lin Qingqing asked, “So who do you work for?”
【System: I’m just a high-tech intelligent product. I only follow orders. I don’t know anything else.】
Lin Qingqing curled her lips but didn’t say more. Still, the curiosity in her heart about all this only deepened.
Husband…
That really was a strange and unfamiliar word.
And the insider—now that was giving her a headache.
Twenty minutes later.
Lin Qingqing stood in the backyard of the estate, one hand on her hip, the other pointing at a freshly decapitated chicken. She raised her voice and shouted at the rows of servants, bodyguards, and the butler lined up before her:
“This is what happens when you betray the Qin family! Got it?!”
As soon as her words fell, a young bodyguard spoke up, “Ma’am, are you giving us a prepared chicken?”
“…”
Lin Qingqing laughed in disbelief, clenching her teeth. “You little brat, you’re even taking food and gifts?!”
Where did they even hire this guy?!
She was clearly staging a real-life version of “killing the chicken to scare the monkey”!
But then again, this just proved the young bodyguard couldn’t possibly be the mole.
Because insiders are usually clever, and this guy was obviously too clueless. Plus, the insider would need to be someone who had regular, close contact with the Qin family… narrowing down the suspects immediately.
Those closest were probably the nanny in charge of their rooms, the driver, the chef, and Butler Ding.
Lin Qingqing continued, “Whoever betrays the Qin family will end up just like this chicken! I absolutely won’t let them off! You all hear me clearly?!”
Butler Ding looked at the blood on the ground, his back going cold. He raised his head to look at Lin Qingqing and asked with a trembling voice, “Are… are you going to… decapitate… someone next?”
This was a society governed by law, of course she wasn’t going to literally do that!
Lin Qingqing forced a smile through clenched teeth. “I’ll make sure they never rise again!”
Everyone wiped the cold sweat from their foreheads.
Seeing the mood was just right, Lin Qingqing waved her hand grandly. “Alright, meeting dismissed!”
As Lin Qingqing walked away, several bodyguards began whispering:
“What just happened? Did someone betray the Qin family?”
“No idea.”
“Isn’t this just a classic case of killing the chicken to scare the monkey?”
“If there really is a traitor, why wouldn’t the madam quietly catch them instead of making such a big scene? Won’t that just scare them off?”
Butler Ding heard their chatter and immediately snapped, “Shut up! No more gossiping! You want to lose your pay?!”
The bodyguards were so startled they shut their mouths instantly and returned to their posts.
Butler Ding then turned and glared at the cleaning staff and the chef. “Why are you standing there? Clean this up!”
After barking the order, he stepped into the servants’ restroom inside the old house, pulled out his phone, and sent a text:
“I think I’ve been found out. What should I do? Madam said she wants to kill me!”
At the same time—
Qin Group Headquarters – CEO’s Office
Qin Yansen, Qin He, and Qin Haishan were sitting together in a meeting.
Noticing it was all Qin family members in the room, Qin He assumed it was an internal family matter and asked, “Why didn’t you call Qin Jingsu?”
If it were before, Qin He wouldn’t have mentioned him. But since Qin Jingsu happened to be at Qin Group today, he just asked casually.
Qin Yansen looked up, expressionless, and said flatly, “What would be the point of calling him?”
Qin He thought about it and agreed. What could a useless guy even do? He’d only get in the way.
He picked up his teacup and downed it in one go. “So what’s the meeting about today?”
Qin Haishan’s brow was furrowed, and his expression was grim. “It’s about the old lady.”
Qin He’s hand froze mid-air, still holding the teacup. He quickly looked at Qin Haishan, then at Qin Yansen. “Big Brother, Dad, what do you mean? What’s wrong with the old lady?”
Qin Yansen and Qin Haishan both went silent. The air grew heavier by the second.
Qin He’s heart was practically in his throat. “What’s going on?!”
Qin Yansen finally said, “I suspect the old lady…”
Qin He felt like a million ants were crawling through his chest. The anxiety was killing him. He frowned. “What do you suspect?!”
Qin Yansen said slowly, “I suspect the old lady might be sick.”
“What kind of illness?”
“I analyzed it all night. The old lady’s been getting younger and younger lately—it might be due to a rare condition that causes reverse aging.”
Qin Yansen didn’t believe in fantasy tales of rejuvenation. He was more inclined to think it was a rare, serious illness.
Qin He said, confused, “Didn’t the old lady say she just had plastic surgery?”
Qin Yansen lifted his eyes and looked at Qin He like he was a complete idiot. “Plastic surgery can only make the skin look younger. You’ve seen her—bungee jumping, skydiving, street dancing, even doing backflips. That’s not plastic surgery. That’s practically being reborn.”
Qin He suddenly had a moment of clarity!
“Right! How could plastic surgery make her whole body that energetic? She’s just like a young person again…” He nodded. “Then what do we do? Should we take her to the hospital right away?”
Qin Haishan looked at Qin He and instructed, “You go now and bring her to the hospital. Don’t stress her out—just say it’s a routine checkup. Otherwise, I’m afraid she won’t be able to handle it.”
“Alright, I’ll go right now!”
Back at the Qin Estate
Lin Qingqing sat in the surveillance room, carefully observing everyone’s reactions after she left.
She zoomed in on each scene, reviewing the footage one by one. She was only halfway through when Qin He suddenly returned and said he wanted to take her to the hospital for a checkup.
Lin Qingqing frowned. “Didn’t I just get checked a couple days ago?”
They already scanned her brain—what were they checking this time?
“That was a brain scan. This one’s a full physical. I’ll come with you.” Qin He was worried she’d refuse, so he deliberately added that he’d be by her side the whole time.
She had always hated going to the hospital, especially after getting older. She had a strong resistance to hospitals, which is why Qin He was trying to coax her.
Lin Qingqing really didn’t want to go. She wasn’t sick at all. But if she refused, Qin He probably wouldn’t let her off.
“Alright then, wait for me half an hour. I’ll be ready soon.”
Only then did Qin He notice that Lin Qingqing had been reviewing the surveillance footage. He asked, “Grandma, what are you looking for? Did you lose something?”
