Chapter 15 – Even If Her Mom Shows Up, She Can Still Deliver a Baby
Yu Jingjing walked into the dormitory and saw six female educated youths inside. Aside from Zhao Yuan and Gong Fanrui, there were four older educated youths.
The one who mocked her had a square face and a body just as sturdy. When she saw Yu Jingjing enter, her gaze remained provocative.
“Oh wow, this must be the great doctor who delivers piglets. What are you showing off for right after arriving? Trying to impress the brigade leader? Do you actually have any real skills?”
Yu Jingjing glanced at her and slapped her straight across the face.
“Your mother never taught you how to speak properly? Let me teach you.”
After the slap, she gave her two swift kicks.
Dusting off her hands, she stood up. “Let me tell you all—I’ve got a bad temper. If any of you are feeling unwell and want to spar with me, I’m happy to oblige.”
She wanted to make it clear that she, Yu Jingjing, was not to be trifled with. Anyone who wanted to cause her trouble would need to think twice.
Gong Fanrui had just been gloating earlier, but seeing how fierce Yu Jingjing was now left her stunned. She had casually told Sun Nana earlier that Yu Jingjing was all bark and no bite. Who would’ve thought Yu Jingjing would actually hit Sun Nana—just a few moves and she had Sun Nana on the ground. Gong Fanrui’s expression immediately turned cold.
Yu Jingjing even had fighting power?
Meanwhile, Sun Nana’s cheek was burning with pain. She poured all her resentment and fury onto Yu Jingjing. A nearby female educated youth helped her up.
Sun Nana clung to her shoulder and sobbed, “Wuwuwu, Sister Jiang Wan, my face really hurts.”
“Nana, the brigade leader will give you justice.”
Yu Jingjing perked up at the name Jiang Wan. It sounded awfully familiar—she was also an educated youth?
Wait a second!
Wasn’t she the female lead from that 1970s time-travel novel she had read before?
The novel was called “The Spoiled Darling of the Powerful Men in the Seventies”. The female lead, like her, had transmigrated and was bound to a “Heartthrob System.” With the system’s support and her outstanding beauty, she attracted countless men and received their help.
Every man she set her sights on was some kind of big shot—none of them were ordinary. Even the least of them could provide her with benefits.
Wherever she went, capable men would inexplicably fall for her, developing either affection or admiration, and would willingly do anything for her.
Yu Jingjing hadn’t cared for that kind of story and had skipped from the beginning straight to the end. By the finale, the female lead had become the richest woman, thanks to all those bigshots.
At forty, standing atop the wealth pyramid, she was surrounded only by young pretty boys. All the men who had once helped her had vanished without a trace.
Since she had the “Heartthrob System,” and it had already been over two months since she came to the countryside, she’d probably accumulated plenty of devoted admirers by now.
She didn’t just attract men, but sometimes even certain women—like that square-faced Sun Nana from earlier.
The novel’s premise and plot were both so bizarre that Yu Jingjing had skimmed it the whole way through—yet she still ended up inside it.
And come to think of it, she didn’t recall seeing her own name in the book.
That made things even stranger. The story began when Jiang Wan went to the countryside, and it didn’t seem to have anything to do with the female lead role. So why had she been brought into it?
“Are you okay, Jingjing?” Zhao Yuan came over and asked.
“No big deal. Just my hand hurts a little. Nothing serious.”
Sun Nana’s eyes widened. Yu Jingjing’s hand hurt? Did anyone care how much her face hurt?
Once the brigade leader showed up, she was definitely going to report her!
She turned to Jiang Wan. “Sister Jiang Wan, can you blow on my face? It really hurts.”
“Ah, of course.” Jiang Wan gently began to blow on her cheek while shooting a cold, shadowed look at Yu Jingjing.
From the first moment she saw Yu Jingjing, she had felt a strong sense of threat—she was just too pretty.
Even with a system backing her, Jiang Wan still worried Yu Jingjing would steal her spotlight using her looks.
In her previous life, she had also been a doctor—a gynecologist, in fact. But she would never stoop to delivering a pig. Yet somehow, Yu Jingjing had managed to show off with that.
An older educated youth, who looked more mature and serious, shot Jiang Wan a warning glance, then walked over to Yu Jingjing.
“Comrade Yu, I’m the leader of the female educated youths here. My name is Chen Wei. Welcome to our group.”
“Thank you, Comrade Chen.”
Another female educated youth, who seemed a bit more lazy and laid-back, was named Zhou Guifang.
Chen Qianxu, having heard about the fight, rushed out from the dorm. Since he couldn’t enter the women’s dorm, he called from outside.
“Jingjing, are you okay?”
“I’m fine.”
By now it was noon, and the new and old educated youths were ready for lunch. Chen Wei said to the three newcomers, “You’ve just arrived and don’t have any food rations yet. Why not eat with us today? You can pay us back when you get your own supplies.”
But Jiang Wan interjected, “Comrade Chen, why make it so complicated? We’ve already cooked. Let them just bring whatever they have and we’ll all share.”
These girls had just come from home, so their bags were sure to contain some nice food from their families. If they brought it out, the others could enjoy some too.
Chen Wei, however, saw right through her. “Comrade Jiang, why are you always questioning my decisions? Who’s the actual leader here—you or me? Are you just trying to mooch off them?”
Ever since Jiang Wan had arrived, she constantly undermined everything Chen Wei said or did—like she wanted to be the real boss.
Jiang Wan instantly looked aggrieved, her eyes turning red. “Comrade Chen, how could you say that? I was just making a kind suggestion. I wasn’t trying to take advantage of anyone. I just didn’t want to trouble everyone. I’m doing this for all our sakes. Fine, I’ll go find Comrade Fang. He’s the actual leader here. His word should count the most.”
She immediately went to the male educated youth and activated her system as she walked: “System, get Educated Youth Fang to help me.”
【Host, I’ll now release your charm points to make him help you.】
Before long, she came back with a male educated youth wearing glasses.
The man was fairly tall and looked gentle and refined.
“Hello, everyone. I’m the chief person in charge here. I think Educated Youth Jiang’s suggestion is quite good. The male educated youths have already been organized accordingly. Exchanging food with the senior educated youths is a friendly act that helps everyone build familiarity.”
Jiang Wan said, “Educated Youth Fang, I gave this idea to Educated Youth Chen earlier, but she accused me of trying to take advantage of the senior educated youths.”
Fang Yuhao immediately reprimanded Chen Wei: “Comrade Chen, we must listen to others’ suggestions with an open mind. Just because you’re in charge doesn’t mean you can act arbitrarily. We’re here to serve everyone, not to command them around.”
Chen Wei was fuming inside. She glared at Fang Yuhao angrily and said, “Yuhao, you weren’t like this before. You used to be selfless and fair. Ever since Jiang Wan arrived, you’ve completely changed.”
“I haven’t changed,” Fang Yuhao defended himself. “I’m still the same person. You’re the one who’s become unreasonable and unable to distinguish right from wrong.”
“I’m the one being unreasonable and irrational?” Tears welled up in Chen Wei’s eyes. “Fine, Fang Yuhao, from now on, we have nothing to do with each other. Go find someone else who knows what’s right and reasonable.”
With that, she ran out crying.
“Chen Wei, Weiwei,” Fang Yuhao called after her twice, looking slightly regretful.
Jiang Wan said, “Educated Youth Fang, have I come between you and her?”
Fang Yuhao immediately softened, “No, this isn’t your fault. She’s just too narrow-minded. Don’t blame yourself.”
Yu Jingjing now understood—this Fang Yuhao had successfully latched onto Jiang Wan. His relationship with Chen Wei was clearly complicated.
After carefully recalling the plot, Yu Jingjing realized that Fang Yuhao and Chen Wei were childhood sweethearts who had even gotten engaged. Chen Wei had followed Fang Yuhao to the countryside, and they had always been close. Fang Yuhao used to be a very fair person, but after Jiang Wan’s arrival, he changed significantly.
Fang Yuhao ran after Chen Wei. Outside the educated youth station, he spotted her.
“Weiwei.”
“Don’t follow me. Go find Jiang Wan.”
“Weiwei, there’s nothing between me and her. You can’t bring work matters into our personal relationship. The one I love is still you. We grew up together, childhood sweethearts. We’re supposed to get married and have kids someday. No one can ever replace the place you hold in my heart.”
“Fang Yuhao, is it because Jiang Wan is prettier than me that you’ve fallen for her?”
“No, Weiwei. I already told you, you’re the best in my heart in every way. I only see Educated Youth Jiang as one of our fellow educated youths. I have no other thoughts about her. Weiwei, we’ve been together for so many years. I’ve always only loved you. You should trust me.”
Chen Wei thought back to all their memories together—how he had always treated her so well, unconditionally. Could he really have changed?
In the end, Fang Yuhao managed to coax her back.
At mealtime, Gong Fanrui, wanting to appear generous, took out two cans of meat to share with the senior educated youths. The older youths hadn’t had meat in ages and swarmed like hungry wolves. The moment the cans hit the table, several pairs of chopsticks attacked them at once. By the time she reached out her chopsticks, there were only two empty cans left.
But that was fine. These educated youths must have seen how generous she was—and how stingy Yu Jingjing was by contrast.
“Educated Youth Gong, you’re truly a model comrade,” a male educated youth named Li Jiandong flattered her.
Gong Fanrui dressed well, ate well, and clearly came from a well-off family. Though she wasn’t as pretty as Yu Jingjing, she was attractive in her own right.
Gong Fanrui basked in the attention. “We educated youths should stick together, share our blessings, and endure hardships together. Besides, this is nothing. My grandfather is a high-ranking official in Beijing, my father and uncle are both cadres, and my three cousins are all very capable. They pamper me a lot and bought me many things before I came.”
She wasn’t just saying this for the group to hear—it was especially for Yu Jingjing.
Let Yu Jingjing stew in jealousy.
At the same time, she hoped these educated youths would realize the value of befriending her. If they wanted help, they’d better cozy up to her.
Sure enough, her words had an impact. More educated youths began showering her with praise.
“Educated Youth Gong is absolutely right. We’ll definitely look out for her more in the future. If there’s anything you need, just tell me. I’ll help if I can.”
“Me too! Me too! Educated Youth Gong, it’s an honor to know you. Just let me know if you need anything. I’m always available.”
Even Jiang Wan chimed in to flatter her. “No wonder Educated Youth Gong has such an elegant air about her. You must come from an illustrious family.”
This Gong Fanrui seemed so formidable—building a good relationship with her might even lead to getting close to one of her three brothers.
“That’s right, that’s right! I thought Educated Youth Gong was special the moment I saw her,” Sun Nana echoed Jiang Wan’s compliment.
Gong Fanrui quickly became the center of attention among the educated youths. Surely Yu Jingjing must be extremely jealous and envious now.
She felt smug and glanced over at Yu Jingjing—only to find that her expression hadn’t changed at all.
Hmph, she must be hiding her jealousy behind a calm face, unwilling to admit it.
Jiang Wan observed her expression carefully. It was obvious she didn’t like Yu Jingjing. Just what had happened between them?
She leaned over and asked in a low voice, “That Educated Youth Yu over there—did you know her before?”
“I did. She stole something from my grandfather. I hate her.”
Jiang Wan gave a noncommittal “oh” and didn’t pursue the topic further.
Chen Mingxu had initially brought his can of meat to share with Yu Jingjing, but she refused to eat with him. He had no choice but to eat with the others. Still, there was no way he was going to give his precious meat to them—he traded it for two large steamed buns instead, which was already generous by their standards.
Yu Jingjing and Zhao Yuan didn’t join the group. Yu Jingjing took out a can of fruit and some egg cakes, while Zhao Yuan brought out two boxes of biscuits, and the two of them shared their food.
They weren’t against sharing with the senior educated youths. They understood the importance of social bonds—but they wouldn’t tolerate people blatantly trying to take advantage of them.
