The premature baby was weak, and her cries sounded like a tiny kitten—delicate and faint.
Hearing his little girl cry for the first time, Lin Yongcheng’s heart tightened in pain, and he finally agreed with Bai Ji’s earlier words.
The little girl hadn’t cried before because she didn’t have the energy.
How could a kitten cry all the time?
But the water in the basin was getting cold, and no matter how much she cried, she couldn’t stay in the water.
Lin Yongcheng, working together with Li Qiurong, quickly dried Little Bai Guo with a towel.
He softly coaxed, “Don’t cry, sweetie. How about we take another bath tomorrow, okay?”
Little Bai Guo closed her eyes and cried softly.
Bad daddy, he was a liar!
She had been born for many days, and this was the first bath, how could he say there would be another tomorrow?
He was just lying to Fishy!
The one who had said she was silly was him too.
Good grief, with old grudges and new ones added together, there wasn’t enough room in her little book to write them all down.
She had to teach him a good lesson!
Just as Lin Yongcheng had finished dressing Little Bai Guo, he felt a warm sensation in his palm.
The culprit had stopped crying.
She pouted her little mouth, keeping her eyes tightly shut, refusing to look at him. Her pitiful little look made it hard to be angry.
The freshly changed pants were already wet.
Li Qiurong handed him a clean pair of pants.
Lin Yongcheng changed them for her, but before he could put on the diaper, he smelled something foul.
She had already peed on his hand, and now she had pooped in his hand too.
This little cotton-padded jacket was a breeze!
After her mischief, Little Bai Guo immediately fell asleep.
Lin Yongcheng couldn’t help but laugh and curse, “Still a sweetie, huh? You’re just a little troublemaker. Can’t you finish everything at once? If you keep pooping like this, there won’t be any clean pants left to wear!”
“This child sure has a temper,” Li Qiurong remarked.
She screamed when she couldn’t take a bath, and after pooping twice to vent her anger, she finally fell asleep.
“The only problem is that all her temper is being taken out on her dad,” Lin Yongcheng whispered. “When she grows up, she won’t be able to bully me like this!”
After cleaning her up, he carried Little Bai Guo back into the room.
But soon after, he was hit with another blow. Not only had Little Bai Guo pooped in his hands twice, but Bai Ji also looked at him with suspicion.
Not only was she suspicious, but she even asked out loud.
“When you weren’t here, the sweetie didn’t cry. Did you pinch her?”
It wasn’t strange that Bai Ji doubted him.
After all, he had said before that Little Bai Guo didn’t cry or make a fuss, which was a bit odd. He had a motive, so she really suspected he had pinched Little Bai Guo.
Lin Yongcheng was unfairly accused.
“Am I that kind of person? This is my own daughter, I’m her real father. I love her so much, I’d rather pinch myself than pinch her!”
“Better not,” Bai Ji muttered, still unconvinced.
At twelve days old, Little Bai Guo had already unknowingly started to mess with her dad.
When she got a little older, the villainous dad was in big trouble!
After her first bath experience, Little Bai Guo began to look forward to it. During her short waking moments every day, she would long for the next bath.
The bath basin was her kingdom!
Little Bai Guo thought about it all the time.
Since having the bath, she felt that the swaddle was no longer as comfortable. But even though it wasn’t as cozy, she was still that salty little fish who preferred to lie in the swaddle without moving much.
Time flowed by as she waited in anticipation.
Before long, the second bath arrived. Little Bai Guo was so happy she could almost bubble over in the bath basin, but, alas, those moments of happiness were always so fleeting.
Little Bai Guo cried even louder.
Now, the whole family knew how much she loved her baths.
And then… Lin Yongcheng did something unforgivable—he gave her a bath while she was asleep!
Lin Yongcheng earned a lot of resentment for this, and he instantly became the number one villain in Little Bai Guo’s eyes.
Her little book of grudges was almost full!!
She waited and waited, finally able to get out of the swaddle.
As her body grew stronger day by day, she was almost at a healthy weight.
On the day of her one-month checkup, Little Bai Guo weighed six pounds. A few more months of care and she would catch up to other babies. The whole family felt much more at ease.
With increased freedom, however, came new problems.
When Little Bai Guo was still in the swaddle, it was hard to notice any issues because she couldn’t move much.
But now that she had been freed, she wasn’t moving at all!
On her one-month birthday, both Lin Yongcheng and Bai Ji were startled, both of them worried that something might be wrong with their little girl.
During the day, Bai Zhu was at the team’s health station, taking care of Bai Ji and Little Bai Guo. It was inconvenient to bring Xiao Zi Su, so recently Bai Zhu had been taking care of them, and Xiao Zi Su would follow him to the health station every day.
Li Qiurong stayed at home. Upon hearing that Xiao Bai Guo wasn’t moving, she quickly rushed over.
“Good baby, move! After the bath, you were clinging to the tub and didn’t want to come out.”
“I’ve been watching her all morning. She hasn’t moved her hands or feet, not even turned her head. Whether she’s held or lying down, she doesn’t react at all,” Lin Yongcheng was genuinely worried.
Earlier, when his little girl wasn’t crying or fussing, he was afraid something was wrong with her.
Then, when she started crying and making noise, he was afraid of hurting her little throat.
Now that she was a month old, the concerns had returned.
Sigh, raising a child is really stressful!
“She hasn’t moved all morning?” Li Qiurong also felt this was abnormal after hearing that.
“Let’s observe her a little longer. She was swaddled before, and today they’ve just unwrapped her. She might not be used to it. Maybe she’ll move tomorrow,” Bai Ji was also worried.
As a mother, she didn’t want to believe, nor did she want to accept, that her child was abnormal, but deep down, she couldn’t stop feeling afraid.
“I’ll go to the health station and let Dad take a look at her,” Lin Yongcheng stood up, ready to leave.
But as soon as he stood up, Xiao Bai Guo woke up, and Lin Yongcheng froze.
Let’s observe a bit longer, maybe the little girl just needs time to adjust?
As soon as Xiao Bai Guo opened her eyes, she saw three faces close to her. After a glance, she lost interest, her eyes empty, not crying, not making a sound, and not responding to them.
The three of them watched her for a few minutes.
Finally, Bai Ji couldn’t hold back anymore and instinctively picked up the baby to feed her.
“Good baby, are you awake? Are you hungry?”
Li Qiurong and Lin Yongcheng sat beside her, watching closely.
The more they watched, the stranger it seemed.
Xiao Bai Guo only moved her little mouth when drinking milk. No matter how Bai Ji held her, she kept the same posture and didn’t even try to hold her food.
Lin Yongcheng whispered, “I remember Zi Su was particularly protective of her food at this age?”
“Don’t mention it!” Bai Ji was irritated when she heard that.
She lowered her head to look at her well-behaved little girl, who was drinking milk, and then softened her tone, “Zi Su was always active. Our good baby is a quiet child.”
After feeding, it was mealtime.
Bai Zhu brought Xiao Zi Su back home for lunch.
But there was no food! No one had cooked!
Later, they heard from Lin Yongcheng again that Xiao Bai Guo wasn’t moving. The three of them stared at him with anxiety. Bai Zhu couldn’t listen to it anymore.
“Stop overthinking. Everything is fine except for her weight. If there was something wrong with her body, would I hide it from you?”
He had already checked Xiao Bai Guo, and she was just a little smaller than a full-term baby. With proper nutrition, she would catch up soon.
Lin Yongcheng asked, “Why isn’t she moving?”
Bai Zhu replied, “She’s just lazy. She doesn’t want to move.”
“…”
The three of them spent the whole afternoon in confusion.
Half a day passed, and the child still didn’t move.
How lazy could she be?
Finally, Bai Ji relaxed, gently patting Little Bai Guo, “Mommy’s little lazy bones, you almost scared me to death. I’ll call you Lazy Bao from now on!”
“No way, calling a girl Lazy Bao sounds bad!”
“Why are you so anxious? I’m just joking.”
“Don’t say that!” Lin Yongcheng glanced at Xiao Zi Su, worried that his eldest daughter might take it seriously, “What if Xiao Zi Su believes it? How will you explain?”
Children are easy to take things seriously, and they might not listen to explanations.
“You can’t bully my little sister!” Xiao Zi Su was angry. She pouted and argued with Lin Yongcheng, “She’s Good Bao, not Lazy Bao!”
At three years old, Xiao Zi Su already had a sense of responsibility as an older sister.
Grandpa said that her little sister was fragile and needed to be well taken care of so she could grow up safely.
If she didn’t take care of her well, she wouldn’t have a little sister anymore.
Xiao Zi Su deeply remembered Grandpa’s words.
She was going to take good care of her little sister, and no one, not even her parents, could bully her!
“Yes, she’s Good Bao, Mommy made a mistake,” Bai Ji comforted.
Xiao Zi Su hummed, “I’ll forgive you since you know you’re wrong!”
Little Bai Guo was sleeping soundly when Lin Yongcheng leaned over and kissed her little fist.
The soft skin of the baby hurt from the prickle of his stubble, and she woke up with a start.
Before she opened her eyes, she swung her little fist.
Then, she heard a surprised voice.
“My little girl hit me!”
“Good Bao, come here and hit Daddy again! A slap will do!”
Lin Yongcheng, overjoyed with the soft punch he received, waited for Xiao Bai Guo to open her eyes, and when she did, she saw her “villain” dad grinning widely.
She widened her eyes in terror.
Help! The villain dad had gone crazy!
From that day on, Lin Yongcheng developed a new hobby: he always tried to get Little Bai Guo to hit him with a punch or a slap. If he wasn’t hit, he wouldn’t feel at ease.
Little Bai Guo felt that her villain dad was completely ruined.
Where was the villainous look?
…
This continued until two months later, when Little Bai Guo was 100 days old.
Normal babies start rolling over at three months, but Little Bai Guo was different. She was a lazy fish—if she rolled over often, would she still be a fish?
Of course, it wasn’t impossible for her to roll over, but only under certain conditions.
If she could lie in a bath tub like a lazy fish, she might consider rolling over.
Unfortunately, no one in the family understood her!
Sigh… as a misunderstood fish, rolling over was impossible.
She had to watch Bai Ji and Lin Yongcheng teach her to roll over.
They were really into it—showing her how to roll over, even lifting her body to help her.
Lin Yongcheng wasn’t home often, but Bai Ji tried every day to teach Xiao Bai Guo to roll over.
This went on for more than half a month, but her little lazy bones never cooperated.
Finally, Bai Ji gave up.
But she couldn’t help but worry and turned to Li Qiurong, “This child is so difficult! Teaching her to roll over is like climbing to the sky. What if she refuses to learn to walk in the future?”
Having a naturally lazy child at home was really challenging.
She couldn’t hit her, and she didn’t understand when they talked to her.
Teaching her to roll over was already a futile effort. What about when it came to eating and walking? Could parents carry her and feed her forever?
Li Qiurong also felt helpless and tried to comfort her daughter.
“Good Bao is still small, she’ll be fine when she grows up.”
