Chapter 154: The Talkative Xiao Mo

Xiao Mo returned from delivering meals and picked a cucumber from the field. Just as he took a bite, Niu Niu and Pi Pi began howling again.

He set the cucumber down, sighed, and went into the house to prepare milk powder. While mixing it, he said, “I’ve been so busy every day that I don’t even have time to eat a cucumber. I spend all day taking care of Niu Pi Tang.”

Xu Ning heard him and laughed, saying, “Xiao Mo, do you think being an uncle is that easy?”

Xiao Mo brought in two bottles of milk and called out, “Here we go! Here we go! My dear nephews, stop howling! The milk is here!”

Just as he fed Niu Pi Tang until they were full, Xu Ning pointed to the used diaper nearby with a smile.

He picked it up as appointed and said aloud, “Every day, it’s either eating or pooping. Sigh, when will they ever grow up?”

Xu Ning watched him shake his head and go back outside to wash the diapers, feeling both amused and heartbroken.

She sat on the kang and looked out the window, seeing him munching on the cucumber while washing the diapers, which made her feel quite nauseous.

She shouted, “Xiao Mo, you should eat first and then wash, or wash after you eat. How can you eat a cucumber while washing diapers?”

Xiao Mo glanced at his sister and replied, “What can’t I eat? The urine of children isn’t dirty. Mom and Aunt Lu said that kids are the cleanest. Even the great heroes of old drank boy’s urine!”

Xu Ning was stunned by his remarks about boy’s urine and asked in shock, “Xiao Mo, you haven’t drunk it, have you?”

Xiao Mo paused, holding the cucumber in his hand, turned his head, and glared at his sister, saying, “Sis, what are you talking about? I don’t practice martial arts, so why would I drink boy’s urine?”

Xu Ning burst into laughter and fell onto the kang.

Upon hearing his sister’s laughter, Xiao Mo angrily finished the cucumber in a few bites and went back to scrubbing the diapers.

Once Niu Pi Tang fell asleep, Xu Ning grabbed a basket and prepared to go pick vegetables. The beans and cucumbers had been planted a bit late, so they were still bearing fruit. Xu An was hesitant to pull them out and replace them with cabbage.

Seeing her come out, Xiao Mo hurriedly asked, “Sis, what are you doing with that basket?”

“I was feeling quite bored sitting there, so I’m going to pick the beans and pickle them.”

After saying this, he snatched the basket from Xu Ning’s hands and pushed her toward the house.

With no choice, she stayed inside, watching as Xiao Mo, covered in sweat, picked vegetables, tidied up the yard, and washed the diapers.

When Xu An came home from work, he found the house neat and tidy, and dinner already prepared. However, the water in the tank was almost gone.

He chuckled and said, “Xiao Mo, it looks like you washed quite a few diapers today!”

Xiao Mo sighed and said, “Second Brother, after Niu Pi Tang ate, they pooped again. I spent the whole day just washing their diapers.

Now my hands smell like diapers. If you don’t believe me, just take a whiff,” he said, bringing his hand close to Xu An’s nose.

Xu An pulled his hand away and laughed, praising him, “Xiao Mo, you’re really capable. Make sure to come back and wash again tomorrow.”

Xiao Mo shot him an annoyed look and replied, “Second Brother, I’ve already made dinner and left it in the pot.

There’s pig trotter soup simmering on the stove for Sis. She’s sleeping now, but when she wakes up, you should let her drink it while it’s hot. I’m heading back to the cow shed to cook.”

“Xiao Mo, Dad and Mom, along with Uncle Lu and Aunt Lu, are also very tired today. You should go back and cook some meat for them to eat.”

Xiao Mo waved his hand and said, “Second Brother, I know. Don’t forget to fetch water after you’ve had your meal, okay?”

After dinner, Wei Lanlan and Yang Xiaomei came to visit Xu Ning.

Xu An, worried that Mother Xu and Aunt Lu might run into the two girls when they arrived, picked up a yoke and bucket and headed outside.

It was already dark, and there weren’t many people by the well. Xu An coughed near the cow shed door, and before long, Xiao Mo came running out.

Xu An whispered, “Let Mom and Aunt Lu go a bit later. Wei Lanlan and Yang Xiaomei are over there talking to Sis.”

Wei Lanlan and Yang Xiaomei were admiring the three little ones on the bed.

Yang Xiaomei said, “I didn’t work this year either. I’ve been at home taking care of our Xiaoya and Xiaopang. I’ll come over tomorrow to help you!”

Xu Ning laughed and replied, “You’re already busy taking care of two by yourself. My three are relatively well-behaved. As long as they’re fed, they just play on their own without crying or causing a fuss. They’re easy to manage.”

Wei Lanlan asked, “But you can’t just take care of three kids! There are so many other things to do at home. You have to wash and clean for them. One person can’t manage all that!”
