Chapter 185: Buying Medicine

Xu Ning was worried that he might feel bored, so she asked him to cook lunch. He made some small dumpling soup and prepared cowhide candy for dessert.

After he scooped a bowl of the dumpling soup for Xu Ning to feed to the triplets, he took a large bowl to Grandpa Qi.

Upon returning from the cattle shed, he held a bowl of dumpling soup, eating and speaking at the same time. “Sister, Grandpa Qi said I should go to the village this afternoon to find Doctor Han and get him some painkillers.”

“Grandpa Qi’s leg hurts, huh? After you finish eating, you should go. Make sure to show me the medicine when you get it.”

Xu Ning planned to give him some painkillers from their space.

“Sis, Grandpa Qi’s leg doesn’t really hurt. He’s just afraid that the villagers will suspect something if they see me not going to work, so he wants me to get the medicine when there are a lot of people around.

If anyone asks, we’ll say he’s in bed and can’t get up because of the pain, and I’m at home taking care of him and feeding the cows, which is why I couldn’t go to work.”

Xu Ning sighed and said, “Grandpa Qi really thinks of everything for us!”

Xu Mo nodded in agreement. “Grandpa Qi is so nice. When I grow up, I’ll take good care of him, buy him lots of delicious food, and not let him do any work. I want him to stay home and have fun every day.”

“Right! Whatever he wants to eat in the future, we’ll buy it for him. We’ll take good care of him and bring him wherever we go,” Xu Ning said firmly.

In the afternoon, Xu Mo went to the village to find Doctor Han and explained Grandpa Qi’s symptoms.

Doctor Han sighed. “This illness of his is a chronic condition. It flares up several times a year. All I can do is prescribe some painkillers to relieve it a bit.”

“Doctor Han, you’re the best doctor in our village. We all know about Grandpa Qi’s illness, so please, we’re counting on you to give him some painkillers!” Xu Mo said, sounding like a little adult as he sighed.

Seeing him act so mature at such a young age, Doctor Han couldn’t help but chuckle.

On his way back with the medicine, Xu Mo saw a few older women from the village sitting together, mending clothes.

He walked over and greeted them warmly, “Grandma San, Grandma Chen, Grandma Caihua… Are you doing needlework here?”

When they saw him, they smiled and asked, “Oh, isn’t this the little lad from the cattle shed? Why are you out playing today? Didn’t you go to earn your work points?”

They all knew that this little guy was quite diligent; whenever there was a holiday, he would go to work every day to earn two work points.

Xu Mo approached them and sighed, “It’s just that my Grandpa Qi’s old illness has flared up again. He can’t move because his leg hurts, so I went to Doctor Han to get him some medicine.”

“Oh dear, Old Qi’s leg is hurting again? That damned bandit, what a troublemaker!” Grandma Caihua scolded.

Grandma San sighed as well. “We owe a lot to Old Qi. If it weren’t for him, we wouldn’t even know if Yushu Village still existed today.

Back then, when we were interrogating those bandits, one of the younger ones said that the bandit leader planned to steal our grain and slaughter our village.”

Grandma Chen added, “It’s really a pity for Old Qi’s wife and the child who hasn’t even been born yet.”

Grandma San patted Xu Mo on the head and said, “Good boy, take good care of your Grandpa Qi at home. He’s a good man and a benefactor of our village.”

Xu Mo replied earnestly, “Grandma San, don’t worry. I grew up in Yushu Village, and I’ll always be one of us. I’ll take good care of Grandpa Qi and feed the cows in our village properly.”

“Good, good! Little Mo is such a good boy,” the several grandmas praised him.

Grandma Caihua smiled and said, “Xiao Mo, when you grow up, I’ll find you a good wife.”

Xu Mo happily grabbed Grandma Caihua’s hand and laughed, “Oh, Grandma Caihua, you mustn’t forget! Make sure to find me a pretty one!”

The elderly women all burst into laughter at his words.

Lu Xiaotang returned after completing ten work points and, as he walked to the center of the village, he noticed a few elderly women gathered around a little boy, laughing happily.

As he approached, he saw it was Xu Mo, who was holding one of the old women’s hands and asking her to find him a pretty wife.

When Xu Mo spotted him, he smiled and said, “Niu Pi Tang’s dad, you’re back from work so early!”

Lu Xiaotang nodded with a smile. “Are you playing here, Xiao Mo?”

Xu Mo grinned and replied, “Yeah, I haven’t had a chance to chat with the grandmas in a while. I missed them, so before bringing Grandpa Qi his medicine, I thought I’d spend some time and chat with them for a bit.”

Lu Xiaotang smiled, waved, and greeted the elderly women before heading out, leaving Xu Mo to continue his visit.

As he reached the doorway of Aunt Dashuan’s house, he could still hear Xu Mo making the grandmas laugh.

Grandma San asked, “Xiao Mo, was that Xu Zhiqing’s partner, Niu Pi Tang’s dad, who just passed by?”

“Yes, Grandma San, that’s Niu Pi Tang’s dad. He seems to have just returned a couple of days ago,” Xu Mo replied.

“That young man really looks quite good. I heard he’s very capable and matches Xu Zhiqing well,” Grandma Caihua praised.
